The problem with automotive hoses is that they have different connectors on the ends. Airplanes use hoses that use the AN(Air Force/Navy) standard, it is relatively easy to make your own hose by attaching the connectors yourself and you can use automotive for that if it is the correct material, Inner diameter, outer diameter, and pressure rating. In addition if it’s getting installed on a certified aircraft you would need to pressure test it to 2X its maximum pressure.

As a german (and pilot to be) I second this statement! You even got the spelling right - I'll allow the lowercase 1st letter - which means the Messerschmitts(yes, plural) shall remain hangared - for now.

@@Joey_Avocado exactly, it would be good to have those tasks broken down to such an entertaining level. As an A&P mechanic and Garmin Dealer it could be fun to collaborate on tasks that pilots can do but lack the confidence... Navdatabase updates seem to be the thing I get called for the most.

Not quite but good point. The flared end that goes in the hose is a JIC fitting technically. The end that goes in the engine or whatever part is the NPT fitting. For some reason I've only ever heard them called npt even though they have two different ends.

I think itswift is right.. they are AN fittings, 37 degree flare fittings. Yes the part that screws into the engine is NPT. Locally, the hose shops call 37 degree flare fittings “JIC” as opposed to automotive 45 degree fittings. I haven’t heard anybody call AN fittings “NPT” That’s cool you have a RV-3.. the best plane out there! I have a -4 myself, but that -3 is just a little more fun to fly!
