Hey man, this is far better than a fluid change from a lube place like you said. All that junk if out of the transmission lines and out of the bottom of the pan doing it this way. Thanks a lot. I’ll be doing mine like this soon after watching this.

i understand that the bolt holding the filter is a shoulder bolt and should allow the filter to move up and down, kinda 'float' with the fluid. This is per GM instructions. Also, a deeper than stock pan will need a longer pickup tube and longer bolt holding the filter. . .

Awesome video, you really should upgrade to a 700R4, overdrive makes all the difference, I did this on my 74 and never looked back.

The Turbo 400 is stronger than the 700r4. I would keep the Th400 if it was my car. 700r4 had 3-4 clutch pack failures and its theres more to go wrong with it than the Th400.

as long as you aren't drag racing with it then maybe the 700r4 is ok.

And honestly guys the trick to restoring this car is not to do unnecessary stuff, like changing transmissions when the one that’s in there is fine, just trying to get this thing on the road to make it crucible

@@connerchampion5656 Had mine for years never had a problem.. had a TH 400, its good but has no overdrive, "for me" it was not very good on the highway and drank more gas...the later 700r4s are better, more reliable... got mine out of an 88 Corvette 🙂

I believe the TH400 takes 6 quarts for a filter/fluid change (not changing the fluid in the converter).

Great video. I just did mine but surprisingly after adding almost 4 qts. now my gears do not engage... the shifter moves but nothing happens in any gear? I did get out like 6 qts when I emptied the transmission pan. This was after letting the tranny drip for 2 days. Should I just add one more qt. and see what happens?

Hi, the level should be check with running engine on idle or stop the engine and wait few minutes to check the correct level?

Hey man. I messed up and overfilled it. It started to smoke super bad and filled up the garage with smoke. The Dipstick is showing about a half and inch above the full line. I turned the car off immediately. Should i just let it sit and drain it about a Ct or two? Or do i need to fully flush it all over again.

Maybe a stupid question, but why do you need to put it through all gears? What happens if you don’t? Also, is there a way to check your transmission oil level?

Just to get it through all the different shift solenoid valves, wouldn't be a big deal if you didn't do it. It is really hard to get all of it. But as long as you get 90% of it it's good

@@ProblemSolverGarage one other question, when you use this technique, wont the new oil just mix with the old oil and you’ll also remove a lot of the new, wasting a lot of the oil? How hard is it to simply empty it completely first and then fill the new?
