Your 2009-2014 Ford F-150’s headlight bulbs help illuminate the direction in which your truck is headed, and can improve visibility and overall safety during poor weather or in the dark. Working headlights are required by law, and by replacing a dim, burned out, or flickering headlight bulb, you can improve your F-150’s safety and visibility. Even if only one bulb is not working, it’s recommended that you replace both of your F-150’s headlight bulbs at the same time since they are likely to burn out and fail at around the same age. Underperforming headlight bulbs can make it difficult for other drivers to see your Ford F-150 on the road, possibly putting you and others in danger. Our detailed instructions can help you replace the headlight bulbs on your Ford F-150 for improved visibility, safety, and peace of mind while on the road.

Once you’ve got your supplies together, here’s what you’ll do:
Park on a level surface.
Make sure your headlights are turned off… and open your hood.
Remove the pushpin that holds the plastic cover in place next to the headlight assembly.
Use a ratchet and 10mm socket to remove the three retaining bolts securing the assembly.
You’ll see two on the top… and one on the front.
Once the bolts are removed, pull out on the headlight assembly toward the front of the truck to disengage the two snap attachments at the fender.
Be sure to have your replacement bulb ready to go before you remove the old one… and when you handle the new one, be sure not to touch it with your bare fingers.
Finger oil or grease makes a hot spot on the glass that can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.
Remove the headlight bulb and socket from the assembly by turning it counterclockwise… and carefully lift it out.

Thank you for pointing out that tip about not touching the new bulb with your bare fingers. Many of bulbs have failed for just that reason. The heat of the bulb and the natural oils from our fingers is a bad combination.

Yeah, if you touch the bulb, it will fail pretty quickly. They get very hot.
