Hi Craig. Thanks for your video's firstly. I've recent been working on my front brakes from following your guides. No problem at all. I started the drivers rear. Long story short my piston doesn't seem to engage and brake pedal has full travel. I did have a problem where the piston was nearly all the way out. I managed to find it all the way back in. Reassembled everything. Thats when i discovered the full travel of the pedal. I'm hoping you can help. Thanks.

Good video, a massive help to me when changing my brake pads. Agree that the workshop manual seems to be in error regarding clockwise/anticlockwise rotation of the piston.

Great video, very clear and well presented, question for Craig or anybody who can answer. At the end of the video before refitting the wheel should there be any play or movement ,other than rotary of course, from the disc.On mine the disc rocks a bit and am wondering if it’s an issue, all feels secure and no play when the wheel is back on. I note more play/rocking on one side than the other, I am trying to isolate an unusual intermittent noise at low speed which goes away when brake applied, thank you tom

The rotor is not retained properly until the wheel is bolted up, so it is normal. Just make sure everything is square and the wheel is offered to the hub properly, and nuts torqued correctly.

I had silicone grease already :) I'm sure the ceramic stuff would be fine too. Next time.

@@CraigsDIY I did some blog research and believe the sliders have to get silicone grease to preserve the boots. Ceramic Grease for the metal-to-metal contact points only?
@CraigsDIY
@CraigsDIY 4 года назад
The pins and hardware contacts are two different situations, although manufacturers will tend to try to sell an all-in-one solution because everyone likes simple. The slider pins want a 'wet' proper grease, heat-tolerant and rubber compatible, silicone ideal - fancy versions with other additives like ceramic, fine. The outside hardware wants an anti-seize, not really a grease, and the ideal stuff will be both resistant to wash-out and continue to work even when 'dry' - copper or nickel based fine, fancier versions again with dry lubricants like ceramic, moly, graphite, if you want.
