Doing the initial break-in Oil Change on my 2022 Kawasaki KLX140RF, so I may as well show you how to do it and what you need! The same process applies to all other year bikes ( KLX 140 - R / L / G /RF ) with the same 144cc Air-Cooled Engine. Here is everything that I used:
. Kawasaki OEM Oil Filter 52010-1053: amzn.to/3ZncjJH
. Kawasaki Drain Plug Gasket 11061-0421: amzn.to/3IG7O7f
. Kawasaki 4-Stroke Motorcycle Engine Oil 10w40: amzn.to/3XcYNpW
Useful Tools for this project:
. 3/8" Ratchet: amzn.to/3vQTm4A
. 3/8" Torque Wrench: amzn.to/3X5gNmQ
. Oil Funnel: amzn.to/3GR9lWp
. Oil Drain Pan: amzn.to/3IJNOAi
. CRC Brake Cleaner: amzn.to/3k60iIB
Some of these are affiliate links, which means I may get a very small percentage if you decide to make a purchase. Thank you for watching and supporting this channel!

thanks for the video - quite helpful. One suggestion would be to open the fill plug before opening the drain bolt - this is per spec - allows air flow to let oil drain faster. And also noticed you started the bike with the garage closed? - pls be careful - the exhaust fumes can be very dangerous to health.

Hey nice video on the oil change. My daughter has the 2021 year. And I just walked her through this. If I might make one suggestion for you. It is to leave the drain bolt off when you remove the filter cover. As this allows additional oil air locked in the galleys to drain. Enough so you want to make sure your catch pan is still positioned. As well as you can pull the bike over to the drain side to let more run out.

Thanks! Glad to hear I’m not the only one choosing to go with this model. I also have a YZ250, but it’s simply too large for me and this one just works well for what I’m doing

@@PatOutdoors ah yea that a heart crusher man I totally feel you. Being a short guy myself at 5'6, it shuts me down that I cant ride big bikes like 250s. My dream bike is a dual sport which are known to have lower seat heights which is a good thing, but the dual sport that I was wanting was the suzuki drz650. Went to a dealer to checkout out the KLX since im just starting, saw my dream bike the suzuki drz650 right there, went up to it and immediately was crushed at the fact that it was just too tall for me. But I saw yamaha has very good options when it comes to dual sports too like the tw200 and xt250 both look amazing so not too bumbed but thats waaaay down the line when I have life situated. Right now I just wanted to get started riding and yea I tried the KLX140r L in the dealer and I fell in love. Green is growing on me too haha I hated it at first but comparing other trail bikes, I heard this was the best one out of all of them. I eventually want to get a actual motocross bike like a yz125 but for what I plan on doing which is the same as you, taking it to the woods, trails, and just overall riding, not getting this bike to race or go fast at all but just ride and learn and get used to it, this bike is definitely for me.

Thanks for the video, but first step clean your bike before changing oil.

Nice video, just a heads up you improperly torqued that drain bolt. When applying measured torque to any bolt there should be some movement before reaching your desired spec. In your case the nut didn’t move at all meaning it’s probably over torqued. In this scenario you should have backed off the bolt slightly then retorqued. Does it really matter in this application?…..no it’s just a drain bolt. But in others it def can.

When u check the oil level do u have the stand down or do level the bike
@tessautech

Manual said "With the motorcycle perpendicular to the ground", so it should have been level.

I smell burning after i start it for the first time, is it because I’m 300mL short of oil? I’m waiting to get more

Sounds like you may have just spilled some oil on the exhaust components

Did you warm the engine first?
@PatOutdoors
@PatOutdoors Год назад
I actually did not, though that would not be a bad idea.. Warming the oil may let it drain a bit quicker. But I just let it drain for a long time.

Anyone else have a bear of a time starting this bike? My daughter's is new '23 but man it's tough to start.
@PatOutdoors
@PatOutdoors 10 месяцев назад
Yes, initial start always takes a bit of effort. Usually have to throttle it some and hold it partially open for 10 seconds while cranking

same here - and dealer had said to use the choke until engine is warm...it does help to start sooner.@@PatOutdoors

Typically this bike comes in very lean that explains why it has a hard time starting and idling.I recommend you change the jets up a size for better efficiency I went with a 100/40 setting stock is about 98/38🤙🏻

@@eddieracoma I did one better. Sold it and got a Honda crf250f fuel injected. Eff that 140 piece of crap.
