I run rotella 15w40 seems to work well I use on of those crank up Jack's slide under the frame and lift the bike guess vertical easy to check oil level
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 6 лет назад
shilosheena yes that would work good too. In a way I wish I got one of those jacks as opposed to this HF jack. It takes up a lot of space. Your always looking for somewhere to put it. I have the rotella 15w40 Dino oil in now. Clutch/tranny shifts so smooth. Gonna use their semi synthetic next. I just have to burn through my other oil stash first..

"sight" window..... Yeah I dunno bout that. Who designs this stuff!? 😆🤦🏻‍♂️😁 One of the very few things I miss my old Harley for.... The dipstick!
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 3 года назад
Yeah , the sight window can be interesting. I try to get down there and clean it anytime I wash the bike, so it stays relatively clean. Once I level the bike, and add oil, I will add 3.5 qts then slowly add more to bring the level between the 2 marks favoring the upper. Thanks for watching, and I agree a dipstick would be nice.

@@dbest1aVlogs now that you mention the amount you add... I just changed mine a couple days ago (2007 XVS1300) and after draining and replacing the filter, I added 3 quarts EVEN, ran it for a minute, then checked the level and it was halfway up the sight glass. 🤔 Been driving it several days checking the level and it remains. Weird. I did use a k&n filter which looks a little smaller?... But 1/2 a quart smaller?...
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 3 года назад
Depends on if your at the bottom of the 2 sight glass marks or in-between. I'm usually in-between and closer to the upper mark. Usually just about 3.6 or 3.7 or so. I did add 4 once before with not much issue, but only once. I also never have any oil burn. I would think 3qts would put me at the bottom mark. I am not sure of the size of the KnN filters, but I know my napa (n similar) filter is small.

@@dbest1aVlogs I'm having problem with my throttle return cable. It doesnt pull back when I pull the throttle. I can't seem to find a good video or drawing of how the throttle cable works on the 1300. @dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 лет назад
Hmm, it may need lubing ... or replacing . Depending on the history of the bikes. First I'd start with the service manual. Just to familiarize yourself with the line routes. Then I'd pull the tank. Then pull the right cable housing , check for any fraying. Look down my the throttle body wheel. See if any fraying. Get a small lumber assembly, that will help with lubing the lines. Try living with some chain lube, and see if that helps with the return.

Yes , this sample was of the rosella 5w40 synthetic. It actually tested very good. They actually sent me more test kits too. I didn't test this mobil 1 this time, but I am going to test the Rotela Dino oil 15w40 I have in the bike now. Just waiting to get to 3k miles to drop it out. I do notice with the dino.... I can smell the oil. The bike seems to shift smoother too than with the full synthetic.. Almost like it just drops right into the gear. Next i want to run the synthetic blend 15w40 from rotella. We are getting into the colder months though so I may have to put the 5w40 back in for quicker lubrication and warm ups here in new york.

@@dbest1aVlogs I like running the Rotella T5. Although the Yamaha is new to me, I've ran in it in my Honda and the HD here and it runs great here in Alabama. It's the Dino/synth blend. On the Honda I had thought my tranny was going, did an oil change with the T5 and never looked back. My 1st gear was horrible and wouldn't shift hardly for me, smooth as silk after that change up. Made my dealership a believer as well. I'm changing mine after the weekend to the T5 and will do testing as well. You'll truly enjoy the T5 once you stick with it. :-)

Nice instruction, but you forgot some really important points, first of all when checking the oil level, the motor should be warmed up or else the level will show wrong, if you check the level when cold you will not even be able to see the oil level in the glass, and if people are not aware of that, and just fill oil untill the oil level seems correct, the engine will have way to much oil, and will lead to damage the engine because of to high oil pressure. So important is when you check the oil level always run the motor for 5 - 10 mins before checking the oil level. Next problem is that after oil replacement, the first thing to do is to check if the oil pressure is correct, it is so there is 2 oil pressure check screws, one at each cylinder, those screws should be loosen to check if oil pressure is present for each cylinder. loosen the screws, should show oil present within a minut or two, or else something is wrong. And also important warm up the engine before replace the oil, that will make sure all the oil is drained.

Thanks for the info. I've changed my oil as shown in the video for the last (as of video) 30ishk with no issues. I never do your #2, but anyone that wants too can. I never have. I always warm the bike up before an oil change , n fill with oil of ambient temp while checking level in sight glass to top of top mark, or just below. Never an oil light n even after a 3k mile trip oil level was consistent. I've always done it this exact way with no oil level issues. A flashlight helps me read oil level even when the motor is cold. Ofcourse no video is, or will be the golden rule .. ofcourse we all should read the owners manual and service manual for oil change specifics before doing this or other maintenance on their bikes. Can I add to the sight glass placement thing. Yes it's in a very awkward position AND once the glass gets dirty from the inside you can't see the actual oil level. Also the coolant filler neck is under the gas tank. Found that equally disturbing...but I still love my 07 1300.

@@dbest1aVlogs i love it. I started off with the vstar 650 classic. Had it til i got my endorsement then went to a bigger bike. I love my 1300 tourer. I just got new tires on it.
