@@GarageBuiltHondas hey bro so i have a cable lsv setup in my ef sedan. i'm going hydro trans, which cable to hydro trans conversion kit works the best for this?? i can't find the hasport one online. any info is much appreciated bro👊🏼🤙🏻🤙🏻
It’s interesting that you can use 10w30 on D series and K series and B series and even the H series and the usual Ams Oil And Honda Transmission Fluid - has to be Manuel Transmission fluid by the way yes I’m 4 yrs late also on a b series I believe you can fill it up on the speed sensor if you don’t have the right nozzle hose and only the funnel
Damn, that's too bad. I've been using motor oil in a lot of my ef's over the years, haven't had a problem yet. *fingers crossed* I've used Honda MTF too but both seem to be fine.
Another spot you can put the oil in from if you can't break the fill plug loose is the reverse switch. I've had to do that a few times due to a stripped fill plug
Hey man helpful video! I gotta ask though as Im trying to piece together an intake for my 91 integra using the stock air box. Where did you get that intake pipe with the slight bend on either side for your civic? Thanks man!
It was a regular short ram intake. I cut it where the stock air box met the intake arm and bought a silicon coupler to join both. Depending on the size of the intake or air box opening, yiu may need a coupler that goes from one size to another. i think this was a 3" to 2.75".
I tried that on an old DA that had a bad grind and it seemed to help. I wanted to get back to a regular oil and see if it makes a difference. I think my clutch might be taking a dump on me. 😡
+Jon Widmer yeah I just did mine because after driving 20 mins my side to side play in gear and nutral slowly becomes stiffer still shifts fine just not as much play
Right now I'm using a regular 10w-30 oil for the transmission, and using a part-synthetic 10w-30 oilfor the engine. You can use Honda MTF in the transmission if you prefer to do that instead of regular oil.
I didnt know about the oil used. I was goung to buy honda mtf but if you say otherwise. Should i really use motor oil? How did you car feel after? Do you have any update videos on how the transmission feels with the motoroil vs honda mtf
👍 When the factory owners manual came out they had called for a Dextron type II automatic transmission fluid. See if you can find that, or even a Dextron III should be ok too. Whatever you do, do not use regular motor oil.
I’m new to Honda’s and just bought a completely stock 93 civic hatchback dx. What fluid would you recommend for the manual trans? In the owners manual it says 10w-30 or 10w-40.
In your hydraulic transmission I would use the Honda MTF instead if it was my car. The 10w-30 or 40 are fine, but the MTF was developed shortly after your car was produced.
Garage Built Hondas I cannot find that little puppy! I'm sure I will eventually. But I just wanna say I like the way your cars look brother, they're done right.
Hey man, I just picked up a 1988 Civic DX Sedan. My owners manual says to change the manual transmission with 10W-30 but should I use conventional, synthetic, or high mileage for the tranmission?
+Musik Gee Honestly, I'm not sure. I bought a bag of 100 of eBay about 4 years ago. Still have about 50 left. Just type in "Honda oil pan crush washer" and you'll find some.
Lex Oliver Sanchez Rivera Yes, it's perfect, maybe even better. Although the old transmissions specified 10w30 oil, the MTF wasn't developed yet. I've used both and haven't had any problems. I'm even using 10w30 in my 90 Civic that I beat on at the track. Haven't had an issue yet!
hey man I recently bought a 91' civic DX hatch with 21,000 original miles, I know a holy grail of a find ha but it sat for quite awhile in an old woman's garage, the alternator is the original and its quite weak and on its way out, I'm planning on replacing it with a hi output alternator but the factory alternator looks like a real bitch yo replace, any pointers on replacing it if you've done one in the past?? thanks and that's one sweet EF hatch you got
Brandon Huntsinger It's not difficult. I usually pull it down through the back and turn the wheels left to move the axle away from the crossmember. You may need to take off the brackets to get it down that way. It's been a few years since I've had to replace an alternator on these cars. Why the high output? it's still going to be stock, correct?
Jon Widmer yea its going to be stock for now but I found a hi output alternator for a good price so I figured why not upgrade since its about the same price as a stock alternator
It's not necessary *edit* you can actually lift the pass side higher if you wish then just add the required amount for the trans. 1.8 for D series and 2.1 for B series.
+Jon Widmer its a manual. but it seems to be losing a smoother shift between 2nd-3rd. should I replace my clutch with a higher stage clutch or try using a thicker fluid?
+Zac Roberts You may have a problem with your transmission experiencing some wear now that it's getting a little older. Do you punch it fairly often and make high rpm shifts? Or just daily driving? You could try some pennzoil synchromesh. I have read of many people using it and it would help transmissions that were having problems with grinds in high rpm's and just an overall smoother feeling. Possibly look up Amsoil. My buddy with a 9th gen just a little newer than yours was talking about it with a few of his friends saying it also is a good fluid for these transmissions.
+Jon Widmer its a daily car with some bolt ons and every once in awhile I'll do high rpm shifts. but I'll give those a shot first before I replace the clutch. thank you so much for responding. I love the channel and you definitely helped me out on the skunk 2 lowering springs video last year!
You're always safe with Honda MTF. I'm using Pennzoil Synchromesh in my b16 cable LSD setup and that feels really good. I'd do some reading and see what others prefer and maybe decide then. There are so many options out there.
+CivicNigga I was using MTF but wanted to get back to using 10w30 which is what these old cable transmissions were specified to use in the owners manuals. Honda MTF wasn't around yet when these cars were made. My transmission wasn't feeling as smooth as it once was and I wanted to see if it would make a difference. So far I cannot tell, I think my clutch is getting worse or the transmission itself is just getting worn out.
+Jon Widmer yeah I'm thinking about using some supertech 10w30 in mine. but I've used gm synchromesh with no troubles. unfortunately my Trans whines bad in 5th and I don't see it getting any better lol
Oh I am relatively new here so I must not have been the 1 whom filled your order. I have been watching your videos though for a little over a year now.
@@GarageBuiltHondas okay so I'm reading his comment and im wondering. Is it not bad to use motor oil instead of transmission oil? I have a gsr and need to change the tranny oil and have read people using motor oil but I feel like they are different. Is there any specific reason you use motor oil instead?
Honda MTF wasn't around until like EG-s and DC's came out. For the 88-91 chassis, motor oil was the lubricant used in these transmissions and specified in the owners manual. For your car, get Honda MTF.
