Back in the day when I was in the Marine Corps the career "jammer" never helped me transition to the civilian world. Though I do times have changed however if the master mos controller is doing a good job easy to get ahold then all good. I was told in October 93 before getting out my job was frozen and no lateral move was allowed, who knows if it was the truth. However if your career may come to an end and transitioning out find other military (former) talk to them about it how things are out here. Great job Taylor and keep up great work.
A lot has changed since then. Now it’s a minimum of 2 years before you’re eligible. I haven’t heard or any disciplinary actions (NJP, etc) preventing someone from doing so
Caveat. They USMC wont let you change jobs just because you decide one day to move. The best way to lat move is with some leverage and that leverage is reenlistment. If you arent a bag, they will want to keep you and you have LEVERAGE. When you are a 2 year lance. Zero leverage. But that opens up if you are about to ETS. Especially if they are hurting for guys in a job you want.
One example of this happenning, is when they were phasing tanks out of the marines, so a lot of the tankers could keep their job and move to a different branch, or be lat moved to a different mos, whether they had a say in it I do not know
you only need to retake the ASVAB if the MOS you want requires a GT/MM/EL/CL score that you do not have. Although a few points off can be waived, Marines do need to retake the ASVAB to meet the requirement only if not waivable. & if you don’t pass the schoolhouse for the MOS you lateral moved into then you can be put into an MOS that needs a Marine or get separated for failing to complete the schoolhouse
My son went open contract and his recruiter told him his mos would be non infantry as he wanted but he ended up getting infantry. Can he switch mos down the road to non infantty ?
@@Devil_Dawg2k23 it just depends on where you get stationed and what type of unit, I’m in an infantry unit on 29 palms so they do need logistics marines, I’m literally just another grunt, so if I wanted to reenlist whenever I get to the next unit I won’t know how to do my own job
