Hi David. Thank you so much for making this instructional video. You really helped simplify the procedure so that I now feel comfortable taking my blood sugar. ❤

Hi I wish I'd seen your video a few months ago when I was first Dx. I had no instruction from my Dr office on how to test my glucose. Thank you for making this video for the newly diagnosed. I did see some good information and some things that I was not aware of.❤

Thanks, David! I use the MultiClix lancing pen, so I've never even seen an individual lancet. That seems to help with the anxiety of self-sticking. I seem to be in the minority, as I don't ever reuse lancets. I've seen a microscopic photograph of a used one... that made the decision easy!

MultiClix is a really nice lancet device. And for those magnified pics of used needles- it's pretty amazing to see how "un-sharp" they become after a while when you see them that close up.

Just got type one a few days ago, it's not too bad checking you pick it up pretty quick.

I have went through a few brands of meters and lancing devices. I personally love the accu check Aviva plus and the microlet2 lancing device. I hate the accu check lancing devices and I hate the Bayer (maker of the microlet2 lancing device) meters. I also have gotten a diabetes case from CVS that is perfect for holding my lancets (get the "universal" 31g 300 count amount for like $8 on Amazon), test strip vial, meter, insulin vial (I've found that I am manufacturer specific for novolin 70/30) and even my syringes.

I have been struggling with Pre-diabetes and want to start checking my blood sugar…maybe over a period of time. I am also trying to switch my diet at the same time. I plan to ask my PCP, but do you think that it’s a bad idea to do this before being diagnosed? I am hoping to reverse my Dx.

I’m concerned with throwing used lancets in the garbage. Why do you not suggest a sharps container? I ask my pharmacist for a sharps container and they give them to me for free, then I return them full when I need a new one. If I don’t have a sharps container, I wrap up my used lancet and take it home to dispose of.

Outstanding point. Sharps container is definitely best. Many/most people do just throw them away, though, so I wanted to include a way to mitigate that issue. Thanks for your comment!

I collect my test strips, lancets, insulin pens and needles in a 1 gallon water containers. They may still get into the ocean unintentionally and a whale can still swallow them. Until I learn of a collection agency in my country for this type of trash, I will keep them until they are a drumful.

My favorite blood sugar app to use a mobile devices is an app called my sugar and it will work with Annie meter and it’s really cute because if your blood sugar is low, it will make a certain noise and if your blood sugar is too high, I’ll make a different noise but if your blood sugar is just right, it’ll make a different noise it’s really cute

Rather than pull the lancet out and THEN capping the lancet, use the cap to help assist pulling it out. Invert the lancing device over the cap, firmly push into the cap. Now remove the lancet, which is already capped, without risk of poking yourself again.

Is getting/using the meter's "Control Solution" necessary? My Endo did not include it on the scripts for the machine/strips/lancets, but the meter box (OneTouch Ultra 2) says it's "required". The meter's manual says to use it with each new box of test strips, if the meter gets dropped, or if there's an unexpected high reading; so most likely it's once every 50 or 60 days based on test strips. However, the control solution says to discard 90 days after opening resulting in 2 uses per bottle, which seems a bit costly. The diabetics I know don't use it, but I'm a newbie and not that callous (yet). Thanks

I tried so many different meters when I was younger in my 20s and 30s and believe it or not I did not know what to high of a blood sugar number was or too low so my life coaches when I would get home from whatever I was doing whether it was school or work or whatever or a doctors appointment they would teach me about sugar levels and at one point I did have my primary care doctor in Michigan Prescribe me the one touch Vero that particular meter that you have right now words blue green red and she help educate me how to read it and believe it or not. I still have that meter to this day in my house as a back up but the battery died and then I tried to replace the battery and the meter won’t turn back on and then the strips were acting goofy. It was a mess so now I have a different fingerstick pricking meter.

Not sure I understand. Can you elaborate your question?

17 years and I am still terrified everytime, so I squeeze my finger first until it gets numb before I prick. I don't have problems injecting insulin though. Maybe it's because of the sight of that little drop of blood, it spells pain even though I don't feel it.
@sugarhighchannel
@sugarhighchannel 4 года назад
The needles in some lancets are actually a little bigger than insulin injections needles. Depends on who makes it. Maybe that's why it bothers you more than the injection? Also, there are more nerve endings in the fingers than in the skin of the belly or arm. Some people prefer to get the blood sample from the forearm instead of the fingertip.
