Hi Rob ,I really appreciate all the time you put into your videos. Your knowledge sharing very helpfull.im just getting into the 12valve engines.i was wondering if you could be kind enough to tell me what size bolts are used in the block to fasten the bell housing to the block.
Hi Rob I got a 1991 cummins VE pump on a 2003 ford. The engine runs awesome but I do have excessive fuel smoke at an idle any ideas why ? It does have 75 horse injectors and a 1 size up turbo. Fuel pin and suposibly a 3200 spring. But can't get to go past 2900 or 3000. Thanks
Can you explain symptoms of a lift pump going bad. Hard starts in the mornings, smoky till it warms up, got to tap the gas pedal a few times to start it? Any of those bad signs that it's time to replace it. Oh yeah leaking pump at the Prime button after pumping it like 12 to 15 times
Hey Rob, I’m going to start out by saying you’re the man when it comes to 12 valve Cummins engines and information pertaining to them. My 95 is a beat up old farm truck all stock but runs like a champ. Last few weeks there has been a serious loss of power, a tapping sound from the spring in the lift pump getting weak I’m assuming and she has been harder and harder to start after sitting over night and today wouldn’t start at all. I’m assuming it’s due to low fuel pressure or lack of fuel being moved from the tank to the P pump which leads me to my actual question. Will the spring mod restore life back into my old factory mechanical lift pump if that worn out spring is the only culprit? Or would I be better off replacing both the lift pump and overflow valve? Just a broke hillbilly looking for some insight from someone with more experience and knowledge of these engines. Thank you in advance.
Thank you brother I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have dcec pump in the mail as we speak hoping for a 30mm plunger and plan to change the OFV with a tork tek shortly after pump.. Keep doing your thing I love your extremely informative videos definitely the best on the internet.
I’ve got 30 when idling and drops to 23/25 under load…is that a weak lift pump? I have a tork tek adjustable ofv and brought the pressure up to 30 psi at idle but puzzling why it drops instead of increasing at higher rpm under load towing?😮
Stupid question, the pressure you're checking at the filter housing is showing the lift pump pressure right? If my truck cranks, but won't fire and the pump is producing pressure, I should be able to read it here correct?
Hoping you can help me. I've got a 1995 160hp 12v p-pump. It wouldn't pull a 3k bedcamper up a hill. Fuel pressure was in the teens. I changed out the overflow valve to a torktec, and pressure went up to 25-30 at idle. Power improved a little, but psi drops sometimes under load. Still can't go up a hill with a 8k trailer. Brand new it pulled a 14k 5th wheel 150k miles without sweating. Don't know a ton about diesels. Help!
I would do a new pump with hd spring and check out the fuel heater make sure it’s not plugged up with junk. I have a bunch of videos on 12v style in the playlist that this video is in
Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I have an untouched stock 98, 2nd gen 12V. Planning on lift pump valve spring mod and vacuum release valve. Where is your shop located in Ontario?
I just put a new filter and lift pump on. I removed the heater and used the spacer and studs. The problem I’m having now is that I can not get it to start. I have primed the button until my finger almost fell off and cranked and cranked with the bleeder open with no luck. Now what?
@@CUTTERUPROB I pumped and pumped with the bleeder open with nothing. I cranked and cranked with nothing. I decided to pull the whole thing off again. The cartridge fuel filter has no fuel in it, so I figured the lift pump was not pumping. When I pulled it off everything looked good. I put a hose directly on it and in a can of fuel and it wouldn’t suck it up with the prime button but my old one would. So my new pump wasn’t working. Damn Chinese Cummins part.
Could you do some explaining on gov springs? What could cause the throttle to be super sensitive to the point where you can’t grab 1 or 2nd gear without it trying to hit 3G right away
Does your lift pump have the pop off fuel regulator circuit built in? That dumps output pressure back to the intake side? Wont get past that set pressure.
Juts picked up a 96 12v and had it sputter and die and it wont start def a fuel issue. My transfer hose is old and kinked and I have the fuel heater element in place. I got a new lift pump/fuel line coming and I am going to delete the fuel heater element for now. I cannot yet troubleshoot my issue but if I floor it, it tries to start. Pretty simple engines to work on which is nice. I know its hard to internet diagnose but if i am on the right track I would be happy lol. Also with the OFV valve cranked up are there any side effects? Also, i had a lower idle recently as well but since its new to me i thought i was imagining things lol.
@@CUTTERUPROB I will check into this thank you. I am still learning so maybe ill see if you have any videos on this. I also need to check the KDP as well so when i am in there i can check. I have all my parts and will start tonight and hope to finish up tomorrow.
@@CUTTERUPROB I deleted the fuel heater and pre filter that was clogged. I replaced with a decent lift pump and oem transfer line was that was fucked. My fuel heater was mega leaking. It started right up and runs great.
@@CUTTERUPROB so after my lift pump was done is now hard starts every morning so I ordered a new ofv from Tork tek. I also went to fuel up and felt like I had a bit too much pressure in the tank. I wonder if this stupid ofv is bleeding off too much pressure.
Nice video...when i changed out my overflow valve the engine was hard to start...took a very long time for fuel to reach the injector pump...Think that can be a result of a weak lift pump? Thank you for any info on it...
Can be a bunch of stuff. Good start be. Make sure it’s not loose prime ( air leaks or fuel leaks ) Fuel filter Lift pump Fuel solenoid Injectors issue Injection pump Just to name a few
@@CUTTERUPROB thanks! I was just curious what size that might be. I was going to use that for a fuel pressure gauge but instead just tapped the banjo. Was easier.
Hey bro I had a question this is regarding the ve 12 valve 89 to be exact I swapped liftpump from a working one off a 93 onto my 89 I primed it and got it running then I accelerated and she wpuld bog down and die when I let off then I kept trying to keep it running and it would just start and astart not wanting to stay running or would bog down right away and not stay on pls any ideas may help How do I air out the lines or find out if mg injection.pump took a crao
