Just wanted you to know your a gift from God. A true pleasure to watch. A kind soul created by the Master Himself. Thank you for all your hard work and time you put in to helping the world be a prettier place. May God bless you so abundantly.
I've chipped my amaryllis by simply cutting a bulb through the middle without using fungicide, and simply put each half about halfway into the pot. It took about a month for them to make bulblets. I'm not that big into amaryllis and only have 1 species, but I find them very easy to propagate.
Omg your brave I had 2 red ones that I lost this past month of June.I did manage to pollinate the flowers last spring and get viable seeds and just transplanted them into something this morning so they should be good for a year.how ever I think these seeds were cross pollinated with one that resembles an apple blossom.can hardly wait to see if I pollinated it or if it pollinated its self. The 2 I lost I had had for 11 yrs but I have some from a deceased family member that are over 20 years old.
The neem oil mixture that i use to spray on my houseplants, would that be ok to soak the bulb in?? Its the Garden Safe brand Neem Oil Extract 3 in 1 (insecticide, fungicide, and miticide).
After soaking in the bulb in the fungicide can you plant the bulb in potting mix/soil or should it be planted in straight perilite / vermiculite like you demonstrated?
I cut mine from the top to 3/4, that way I just put the roots in, put a paper bag over it and hey presto, numerous starts a song as you get a root each
Thank you for sharing your experience with Amaryllis. Greetings from India. We had amaryllis flowers during Easter I have already followed your advise and grown small ‘baby amaryllis’ from seeds. In India we have entered June the hot period with temp. Around 40 to 45 deg. C. Please guide me, when should the mature bulbs be subjected to cutting and multiplying with the method you demonstrated so nicely?
I watched a video where the person instead of cutting from the base, he cut it from the head. It is a Russian video and I could not translate it. My question: it is the same result?
Beware of breathing in fungicide. It can cause serious lung damage - in the powder form. I think using it can & should be avoided. There are other options. Always stay upwind so a dust cloud of it won't blow into your face & onto your body. If it gets onto your clothes or shoes, don't bring it into the home without shaking it out & rinsing off clothes with a hose & then placing in a big tub or bucket outside, to wash by hand. It can harm pets & children.
Is that a bulb that is coming out of dormancy? You mentioned it was unearthed, does that mean it was growing and had leaves that were cut off? Your site if very interesting and informative, God bless you too. Thanks.
I would very much like to buy but they will be destroyed on entering our country. We have not got half the problems you have so they want to keep it out! Hope you understand and bless you for all your advice!
Yes, it is available to do that. Treat it as a house plant until the weather is above freezing. then put it outside in a sunny location, fertilize and water it as needed. If you are in an area that it freezes bring it inside for the winter.
I also believe in God. But amaryllis are also gods creatures. I don't think God would want someone cutting up a plants brain and mutilating it just to make it have kids. Doesn't the bible say to look after gods creatures? Dominion does not mean loved more. It means responsibility. Plants roots are their brains. They can think and feel. They even have a soul like animals and humans. I know you will get many clones but the mother dies In agony. I think God would want you to treat your plants with more closeness and love and not expendability. God bless all living creatures!!!
