Hopefully you all learn something in this video! Chipping can be very difficult
@danmyers9372

Grant you said to chip with the shaft straight up and down but you were clearly leaning the shaft forward slightly on all your shots. This is the proper technique as it greatly increases the chances of a solid strike by lowering the leading edge. A high leading edge can result in the deadly bladed shot! Another important point you might consider adding is reading the lie. How the ball lies in the grass is critical to choosing the best club and shot type to play! Thanks Grant.

Practice sessions would really be the key. Hit a good amount of balls to have consistency when your hitting. Feel plays abig role, clock system also helps to know how far back you wind up on your backswing.

Grant, we could really use a pitch-shot video! I can't tell you how many times I'm 50 yards out (up to 70 yards) and need a better idea of club selection and shot shape. Too many times I fall short or go long of the pin. This video was great and much appreciated!

I was struggling with inside 70 yards as well and what helped me was practicing half swings with a sand wedge and pitching wedge and seeing how far they would go. My half swing sand wedge goes exactly 50 yards and my half swing pitching wedge goes exactly 70 yards. You could also do the same thing for a half swing on a 60°

Great information Grant. I go by more flight, less roll ise higher lofted. Less flight and more roll, lower lofted. I am a high handicap, but chipping is one thing I am actually decent at. I do have a 60, but barely use it unless i need a high shot and just have the ball stop. Keep it up!! Live the channel.

Hey grant. Nice video. One thing you didn’t mention was about using the bounce on the wedge. I learned this from a Padraig Harrington video. You technically are trying to hit the ground before the golf ball when chipping and this has made my chipping so much better and really made it click in my head about how it’s supposed to be done. Keep up the good work.

Grant - In Secrets of the Short Game, Phil recommends a more forward ball position. I'm like you and always do a more mid/back ball position. Im curious if you think this is personal preference as to what works better for each golfer, or if there is a reason to choose one or the other? I'm trying to shift to a more forward position like Phil because he makes it seem so simple but its been a process to change my feel! Thanks!

Nice video! That downhill chip you could’ve definitely played slightly closer to the hole if ball position was a bit more forward and some clippy added bounce contact, I find ball Position as far back as you had it out of the light rough delivers glancing blow with not enough spin to stop from that distance running away from.

@michaelcandel4209
@michaelcandel4209 21 день назад
I think going up with the ball instead of down is massively underrated. Learning how to go up and control a ball’s distance and spin has provided more tap ins then chipping low. Maybe just cuz I’m really good at it but anyways.. I’m definitely better going up than keeping it down. Even with 50-60 degree clubs. Opening the face and using the bounce

Interesting so many people find iron bump and runs so much easier. I am a mid teens handicap but I am wayyyy more consistent and have better distance control chipping with my high lofted wedges
@l0rdkeithingt0n
@l0rdkeithingt0n 21 день назад
I was taught by my pro to basically do a bump and run type shot with high lofted clubs by delofting them, handle forward. It is pretty predictable and contact is pretty good. It basically hops once and then rolls like a putt. I get comments from guys with less than half my handicap say I’m really good at getting up and down. I changed to this technique relatively recently so I know it should only get better with practice. You might consider trying it out, since you can use the same club you have been using. Basically ball is at the right shoulder with weight left, handle at left pocket. Maintain weight and shaft lean during swing with softish hands. Stop your follow through at a singular point, but make sure you are turning your body through to the finish. Something to try, but if what you are doing is already great then keep refining it.
