Putters are the deepest, slowest, disc golf discs and have the thinnest rims. It's important to choose a putter that feels good in your hand, flies well for you, and is the right plastic to give you consistency. Danny Lindahl talks about the difference between beaded and beadless putters along with comparisons and examples for each!
The Deputy is the best putter for a spin putt that flies straight. The Warden is the best putter for either a spin or a push putt that needs a straight flight without fading. The Judge is the best putter for a beaded feel and reliable finish. The Marshal is the best putter for a microbeaded feel with a reliable finish. And the Guard is the best putter for a deep feel with a lot of glide for longer putts.

If feasible in your area try to get some putters from a brick and mortar store that sells used discs - you get to feel them in your hand, you get putters that are already broken in(which I think might be better for beginners too), and you get them cheaper.

My first putter was a marshal. It’s been super dependable for me. I got it in prime plastic because during the summer in Texas it’s super humid. Prime plastic seems to perform very well when things get sweaty. Lol

Honest ? not a criticism: Any reason you chose not to mention glide? For example I don’t like too much glide in my putters I find they float high. Now that could be in my head and it might not really matter for in the circle putts. What is your feeling on glide for in circle putts: matters/doesn’t really matter?

Disc golf disc names is my least favourite aspects alongside the awful design works. There's no grace or charm. They all sound like cars in a demolition derby.

Just discovered the Warden - really loving it for approach shots. With a little anhyzer on the backhand, the disc hyzer flips and drops right at the basket. With a little practice I suspect I can knock 1-2 shots off each hole with a Warden.

Great video! Love the advice as always and if I would've seen this several years ago it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration on finding my putter of choice. Only thing I can think to add which isn't so much beginner advice is try different plastics depending on the temp. I like softer putters when its cold out because they tend to get a bit more rigid and the firmer plastics when its hot out as they can soften up a bit.

I use the Envy (and sometimes Proxy if I want less stable)... IMO they’re unique because they’re very low profile. The Warden has a similar flight but very different feel... much deeper rim

Beads are a nightmare for me when putting. I use Wardens for short to med range putts, and Lunas for long range.

By far the biggest point you made for me personally is the depth comment. I have small hands and trying to drive with a deeper putter makes it rotate off my pointer finger and ultimately a huge fail. While I know you are a DD guy, I personally went from KC Aviar to Banger GT and settled on the PA3 from prodigy which when I'm in form I am really happy with. If you have a DD recommendation for something similar I'd be willing to try it out. Thanks for the videos.

That Warden will fly straight and glidey for over 300 feet. I carry 2 foreign molds, one is the Warden (lucid) and the other is a Stiletto (Gold-Line) as I have yet to find any American-made discs with the same flights.

I bought a bunch of putters last year and the one I fell in love with was the Judge. However I kept the Warden too I like it as well, just not as much. Should I use the Warden for my approaches? Or just get rid of them so I'm not bouncing back and forth between beaded and non beaded?

Buy a practice basket and one of each putter you're considering, then throw hundreds of putts - from various distances - and keep track of which putter(s) made the most baskets. That's how you decide which putter works best for you.
