Thanks! I am curious about focus in this mode. Does AF turn off completely? Shooting outside and can't always see if I am perfectly in focus as I have not bought an eyepiece yet.

can you have it not automatically be conformed or slowed down? because I hear you cannot have audio when shooting at 96fps (probably because it can only conform the video and not sound), so I thought maybe if it will not conform it...and just like the canon, shoot at 96fps AND record audio...that way we can still have a high frame rate, and have audio..and still be able to slow it down and get slo mo.....so can you have it not automatically conform the footage?
This is because Europe and the US uses different formats. PAL is the format in Europe, whilst NTSC is used primarily in the US. Stick with that. Changing to NTSC drops video quality (as it is recorded in an interlaced format, not the progressive format - which is the one we use in the EU). Yes, you do get maybe 5-10 frames more, but the quality of the clips are significantly lower.
Hi there, nice video. Just wondering when you are shooting slowmo. Does the GH4 automatically set the right shutter speed for you? Or we still have to calculate ourselves. For example the shutter speed can't go below 200 if shooting at 96fps? Thanks a lot :)
The faster the shutter speed the less motion blur your subject will have. Fast shutter will cut down on light (make images darker) so you have to find what works for you. If your subject is not that fast, you can probably be at 1/200ths, but if your subject is moving very fast and you don't want motion blur, you will have to make it faster and make sure you have plenty of light available. Outdoors on a bright day should be no problem.
So when he says it will be conformed to 24p from 96p does that mean you don't actually have to slo down the footage in post? It will already be in slo mo for you? Unless u turn the variable frame rate off...in which case it will not be already slowed down for you and you will have to do it in post? Is this right?
Midnight-Voice Video Production You can record for as long as you want I guess. I have shot 96fps projects well over 15 minutes and it still worked. There is no audio though.
if i want a movie in 4k and would like to upscale my 1080 slow mo footage will it look bad? I can't figure out how to downscale the 4k footage without losing a lot of quality. Any suggestions?
Sorry I don't know of a way to get clean 4K slow mo from upscaling. Typically with inexpensive cameras even the slo-mo has reduced bitrate and less quality.

Why do I not have an AUTO for the ISO before the 200? And when I'm filming out side with snow on the ground it it is super bright... The video is almost unnoticeable its so bright? How do I fix that? +Hunter Conory Depends what mode you are in. Are you in video mode or photo mode? You should set video mode to be fully manual and set your proper shutter speed for video. If it is too bright, you need to invest in ND filters. This will block out light. If objects are too reflective, you might want to look into a polarizer.

It was an easy decision for me since I already had several GH3, Blackmagic Pocket, and other Micro Four Third cameras. All my accessories, lenses, etc work seamlessly with the new GH4. I am sure I will be selling my GH3 cameras now.
MrCheesyCam Will you be doing some low light test with the GH4 I might end up going to the GH4 its not full frame but its just the price and what you get is really makes me lean towards it and the lenses aren't so expensive either.
Silent778 so cus it's a micro 4/3 sensor, what is the crop factor? 2x? and are all the focal lengths on the panasonic lenses written in full frame terms? so would the pancake 20mm f/1.7 actually be a 40mm on the GH4?
Bartek Lurka Generally people want to double the framerate, so you're right about that. But then again there are no 'hard rules' and if you want less motion blur between frames you would increase that shutter speed. Some people like the sharp look, some people don't. You'll have to try different settings and see which one appeals to you.

The image from the GH4 is far better than the GH3. New sensor, processor, new profiles, higher bitrate, etc. You can shoot in 1080p, or in 4K and then downres. It's up to you, but either way still better than the GH3.
***** The easy way is to just drop the video file into a 1080p project. In FCPX it sizes it automatically, in Premiere you may have to scale down to fit the project, or you can try that one trick where you run it through a program and take 4K 4:2:0 and make it 1080 4:4:4.
Yes, there is a feature for built in Time Lapse Intervals. There is also a feature for Stop Motion, and you can use the Fast Motion (2fps) frame rate to simulate time lapse also.
Panasonics menus are most stupidest and unlogical menus on the planet Earth!!!! When a came from simple and logical Canon menus this makes me nuts! At Panasonic they dont have a clue what an ergonomic GUI is.

MrCheesyCam This is called Proper Overcracking or Undercranking. This method never has audio and is ALWAYS conformed for you. Personally I would rather conform it in post with an audio track recorded. This gives me more options when filming live events. The Sony A7S does this for 120fps, it captures video at 120fps with audio allowing you to conform later. Plus it is easier to set than the GH4.
