I completed my manuscript and its in beta editing and I wanted to take a second to say you have been extremely helpful through this process. You do a terrific job and it must feel good to be helping so many people. I am ready to pull the trigger on a professional editing and ugghh the hard part selling my work.

I have spent more than 20 hours looking for a copy editor, and out of very 300 I've looked over maybe 5 are not scams. The on-line advertys for copy editors are almost 100% fraudulent, and the "copy editors" are not copy editors.

I'm nowhere near the editing phase, I'm actually in a much more fun phase of storytelling, the worldbuilding and outlining phase(s), but it's still nice to get some sort of understanding of what I'm getting myself into. The prices of edits are a little overwhelming though, at least for me since I'm looking at a potential fantasy epic, but I'm just gonna take it one book at a time. I love watching your videos though, you always seem to offer great advice and useful insight, and I find myself grinning every time I see one of your uploads in my newsfeed.

Aww, thank you so much! This makes my day :) There's certainly sticker-shock at times but that's what your research phase is all about - making sure you're getting something awesome in return for your investment. Like yourself, I had to put my head down and just do it one book at a time. I also set up a savings account a year ago that I deposit money into every paycheck for these expenses!

How do you find them on social media? I got two editors from Reedsy. They each did a sample edit. Both did an equally amazing job. Although, one suggests that I get an editorial assessment before the development edit. Editor A (development edits) $1,300. Editor B: (editorial assessment and development edits) $3,200. (Heart broken)

RU-vid creators should understand that most people don't watch videos in a linear order when they come out, so referring to last week's video is meaningless for the majority. Put a link in the description. It's just going to be more effective and get to more people.

[July 2nd 2018 update] Good news! For anyone who was eligible and applied for the RU-vid Partner Program (YPP) before June 1st, your application has now been reviewed. You can check your Monetization Page in Creator Studio for more information. If you were eligible and applied before June 1st but your Creator Studio hasn't yet updated: that means your application is being held for an additional review. You will be getting an email update soon (if you haven't already) and there's also more info about this below. FAQS: Why is my application being held for an additional review? There are some channels that we’d like to look at more closely before approving or not approving for YPP and these channels are being held for an additional review. The best thing you can do is keep uploading original content as the more info/content for us to review, the better. We don't have an exact date or time frame about when these next reviews will take place (as it will vary for each channel), but you'll receive a second email update once it happens

I can tell you some of them that I've look at: Ellen Brock (she's also got a RU-vid channel) Murphy Rae, and Crystal Watanabe. I had a much more extensive list but those were in the final cut! I don't know if I should change this in my book, I was writing a Conversation between two characters, in the middle of the conversation I realized that I didn't mention the other characters name. So then I wrote "I forgot to ask.... What's your name?" Then he answers, she says hers, he said he knows, she asked how, he doesn't answer and continues the story that he was telling. Should I change this? Does it make sense?

You mentioned that editors can do sample edits -- do they charge for those, or do they do that for free? I assume they charge some sort of flat rate, but I wasn't sure? This video was super helpful to me, thank you for putting in the time and effort to put it together!

WebsiteEngagement Body { background-color: blue; } h1 { color: white; text-align: center; } h2 { color: yellow; text-align: left } p { font-family: NewTimesRoman; font-size: 20px; } WHY FIRST DRAFTS STINK If you’ve written a book, you will probably know that your first draft… well, it stinks. Let’s talk about why first drafts are not so great as well as ways to improve it in this special two-part AuthorTube collab between Meg LaTorre of iWriterly and Bethany Atazadeh. Underwriting vs. overwriting “Most writing is done between the mind and the hand, not between the hand and the page,” says Janet Burroway in Writing Fiction: A Guide to branding and design consultancy based in London, specialising in corporate, leisure. For me, the overwriting probably comes in draft two. Author: Sarah Mccoy Narration vs. dramatization or Telling vs. Showing. Knowing your personal strengths and weaknesses can help you a lot in choosing the right career or making good decisions. Because if you are able to focus what you do around your personal strengths. How to tell if your story starts too soon or too late If you begin your story too soon or too late, you’ll jar the balance of your book and force your major plot points at the 25%, 50%, and 75% marks off schedule. So consider your first plot point, which will be the first major turning point for your characters and, as a result, often the inciting event. Plotter vs. pantser (architect vs. gardener) How an Intuitive Gardener (Okay: Pantser) Creates Conflict & The outer motivation is not a feeling (happiness), or an abstract concept (success), or some ongoing condition (health). It’s a specific goal that your audiences can envision as soon as they read or hear what it is. The type of sentence is determined by how many clauses, or subject-verb groups, are included in the sentence. A simple sentence has one independent clause: “I rode my bike.” A compound sentence has at least two independent clauses: “I got in my car, and I drove into town.” In that sentence, both clauses can stand on their own as complete sentences. A complex sentence includes an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses. How many side characters are too many I'm planning on writing a new book in about a week, but I don't know how many side characters is too many. It involves a 'club' and I want there to be enough people so it seems realistic, but not too many that it's hard to follow. Imposter syndrome Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Plot structure Plot is the series of events that make up your story, including the order in which they occur and how they relate to each other. Number of scenes. If you have a scene list, everything will be right in front of you, nicely organized and easy to read. Scene lists Help You Edit. This is the point where I’m at now-editing. I know there are scenes missing in my novel. I’m also aware that I need to step back and figure out the arcs of some of my minor characters, among many other things.

How do I go about looking for a cover artist if I'm self publishing? What if I don't know what I want for my cover title?
@VivienReis
@VivienReis 8 лет назад
Google searches are the best. Just type in cover designer and you should get a plethora of artists. It's very similar to the process of picking an editor: you look at their previous works and make sure they all look professional. Typically you have to have your cover title ready ahead of time. There's also not much of a point in getting a cover before you have the title because you're not going to be doing anything with it anyway. I would figure out what I wanted my title to be as well as back cover information if you were also doing a paperback edition. Good luck!

I am totally trying to find a new copy editor that COPY EDITS 😂😂 why is it so hard to find someone who knows what it is without calling it "special" names... Bah!
