LS is the new beginners weapon, at least that's what I think based on Capcom giving us the LS at the start, when the SnS had that role since the first game. That doesn't mean the LS doesn't have depth, but I think is more friendly and feels stronger than the SnS, if you don't know what you are doing. Try explaining perfect rush and guard points to a new player. LS and its meter is easier to understand.

Nobody ever talks about how outrageously aggressive the lance is. You jump around between the monsters legs like a maniac so you can spear the monster to death and you either dodge or counter EVERYthing the monster throws at you, ignoring it like a kid throwing a trantrum. As you learn the lance, it becomes more and more about imposing your playstyle on the monster, attacking without interruption, as opposed to waiting for openings and trying to time one big perfect hit. It's amazing. And it just got buffed so it's less non-viable than it used to be 👍

Lance is so much fun, my first ever hunt, all the way back in Monster Hunter Dos, was wih a Lance, I'll never forget charging against the Velocidrome and finally killing it, so cool. When Monster Hunter World was about to come out and we could play the beta, I played a couple hunts with the Lance and it was so fun, getting up in the monsters face and just relentlessly attacking them, blocking and countering, and when they tried to run away, I would just charge after then and make them flinch so my friend could caught up with them and resume the beatdown. I've fallen in love with the Charge Blade in World, and have been using that ever since, but Lance has never left my heart, I should go back to it...

Literally. The damage may not be as crazy as some other weapons but because youre constantly on the monster's ass poking it, the damage output is nutty. I am new to this game, and some discouraged me from using the hunting horn because they said it is a "support" type of weapon and it kind of sucks to use it if you are playing solo. I am the type of gamer who always wanted to do support so I initially have this as my main option. I tried the hunting horn myself. It satisfies my trigger-happy self and you got beats while you hit monsters, plus I find other weapons too complicated and overwhelming for my simpleminded ass, so this is my weapon of choice.

I love this comment section, it's just everyone talking about how much they love their main :) for me there's something so fluid about Gunlance combat, you've got a ton of options in Full Burst, Wyrmstake, poke shelling, Wyvernfire, and the Silkbinds so you have an answer for every attack and opening a monster throws your way! As a noob, dual blades has been good to me and the most fun option I've tried. There are only a few combos to learn and you only have to pay attention to one gauge. However, since you don't have any defence, knowing when to naruto run away is key. Playing a different weapon is almost like playing a different game in that sense.

My favorite weapon is usually the Lance. I always love sturdy builds, studying my monster, dancing with it as long as possible to understand its depths. And then, when I want speed I use something else once I know the moves. Or I use what I learned and go aggressive lance, charging leaping strikes, stabs, face poke, shield slams to the head. The only thing I miss is MHW style mounting in addition to MHR mounting. Being able to leap on the back for a damage spam would be awesome which is one of the original reasons I played Lance in world. Charge into battle... boom, I'm riding the monster! I got a gem in MHW that allowed me to block ALL attacks, even unblockable ones, plus my armor set gave me perma-regen + a ton of block strength on top of the lance... My friend's reaction to me just face tanking Xino'jiva's face melting laser was wonderful. That said, Rise is... strange. The hits feel less meaty, but do more damage. It's like you get the damage but you don't feel the meaty pain quite as chunky.

All the weapon are good depending on your playstyle. But I will say, if you got the money, try learning at least 3 different weapons once you reach HR7. Its good to have variety and more over, some weapons are better against certain monsters so if you're having trouble, switch to a different weapon instead.

Monster Hunter World was the first Monster Hunter game I’ve ever played. I wanted to play the game earlier but I didn’t own a gameboy or Nintendo console. I did own a psp but didn’t know MH was ever released for it. When I start in MHW I use Duel Blades cause they seemed fun. After becoming really good at them I start trying other weapons. I got good with the Bow, Insect Glaive, Hammer , and Long Sword with the long sword becoming my favorite weapon. Later on in the game, kinsects get better but I just stick to Dual Color (Attack) with Severing as soon as they unlock because most monsters are easy to get white and orange buffs, but early IG was rough until I got Advancing Roundslash and a decent set of different elemental IGs to swap between. Tetraseal slash is also good but I love just getting my buffs and then dropping in to combo and break tails.

@@KogaHarine I've pretty much played IG for most of GU/World/Rise and dip into Lance for fun. Using a blunt kinsect has some nice benefits, something like 4-6 hits with a powder shot to the head and you can get a KO even without other hammer or ko people around. Really handy when you just wanna fish for the extract you're missing or wanna get a nice DPS window in on a particular part. I'm a relatively new hunter, got my start with base World, cleared the game using dual blades, for the most part. Found myself waffling on taking out the twin tempered Bazelgeuse quest. Remembered they were weak to lightning, and I had a fully upgraded tobi kadachi bow, because I was trying to make and upgrade every tobi kadachi weapon to max. Picked it up on a whim, and never looked back. The mid range combat style let me watch the monsters motions a lot more and I was able to learn telegraphs and timings a lot more. As an aside, maining Bow also helped me appreciate soulsian combat a little more, as I got in the habit of leaving enough stamina to execute a dodge if I needed to. In Rise I'm more of a "Little bit of everything" type of hunter. I'll get a whim to use a certain weapon, and just pick it up for a few hunts. About the only weapon I can't seem to get a good feel for is Greatsword, and with Sunbreak looking to add a combo that's not focused around the charged hits, I'll likely have more fun with that.

I played a bit of everything in world before finding my true calling in the Lance, nothing can hurt you, and nothing can escape you, while my friends are getting flung around with their higher dps light weapons, I am there dealing more damage by mining the monster constantly, while also inflicting statuses like paralysis to help the whole party, and when the monsters run in fear, I charge them down and mount more than those insect glaive users. Lance users are often overlooked, but we are often the backbone of a team

yee, great video captain ! I have a bit of criticism tho. First, I would say great sword and hammer are great for beginners. Yes they're slow and require you to learn the pattern... but that's exactly what monster hunter is about. Playing great sword is playing the very core gameplay of read --> attack --> reposition, so I think it's a great weapon for any mh player. As for the lance, it's not stationary at all... If you watch herny's videos or a few speedruns you'll see the hunter sticking to the monster like a god damn mosquito lol. Finally the ranged weapons. Well... to learn about the ammo types and all you have to start somewhere, and it might as well be the beginning. Besides, early bowguns don't shoot the ammo types three, so farming isn't really a big deal. I could be wrong here, but I feel like you didn't really search about the different weapons in playthroughs and such, but rather played each of them a bit for yourself. But that's about it, still a great vid for beginners. Cheers!

I agree with many of these point a save the great sword. I think it is a good beginner weapon if only because it teaches you the main concept of the game. Commitment of actions. Everything in MH has a commitment cost, using itrms, attacks, dives, rolls enemy attacks as well. Learning whet you can and can't do in those windows is montet hunter to the core. GS being as slow as it is teaches you this very fast and I turn makes you watch the monster more, meaning learning how they attack as well. Least that's how I tell people that ask me. Thank you for mentioning the difference between speed runni g this game and general play too and that no weapon is the best. Heck some weapons that might be considered the bet might not mesb with a monsters play style or hard parts.
