I cleaned my mass air flow sensor with the CRC cleaner. Once I took it apart I found that it definitely needed it. The sensor was covered in black soot.

I did not have to remove the whole housing, just the electronic bank next to the airflow Sensor to have space for a screwdrivver to remove the actual sensor itself (2 screws). Appreciate the video.

I'll add my symptoms and the fix (MAF replacement worked). My 142K mile '01 4Runner SR5 3400 had surging acceleration, a bit of a backfire at higher RPM's and eventually threw a few codes. My mechanic cleaned the MAF sensor which improved all the symptoms except a slight hesitation when applying medium to heavy throttle when in drive right off idle. I purchased a new Toyota MAF and TPS (throttle position sensor). I installed the MAF first and it fixed the hesitation off of idle. Yea! So, along with fixing the stumble just off of idle, the truck now accelerates much more smoothly and seems to shift more smoothly between first and second.

Explaned very well and video has excellent close-up shots. Best I've ever seen. Wish I would've found it sooner. My '99 Camry with 302k miles should run even better now.

P0172 Code thrown. Gotta clean this baby. Thanks for the easy video on how to remove and clean it. I saw a few videos and yours was the most simple and clear. Other people were removing parts they didn't need to (Cruise control) or other stuff it seems. Thanks buddy.

The box that makes it hard to get to is the cruise control and it comes off with 3 bolts . You are doing it the hard way.

Mine 2004 Honda city doesn't moving forward after half hour run. Ones stopped keep in ten minutes then the issue gone. But car moving reverse anyway. My car is CVT, please share your advice

The issue on my '96 Tacoma doesn't give me a check engine light or code (it just shuts down while driving after warming up.... intermittently), but I've never cleaned the MAF sensor. Cleaning it can't hurt.
