I just used a heat gun in combination with rubbing in leather conditioning oil so it didn't dry out on my 40 year old leather seats to get out wrinkles & it worked! I'd say it reduced the wrinkles by about 70%! :)

People always say the leather is sagging.... that is so far from reality. It's actually the cheap foam compressed under it... the "cheap foam" expands from the heat and takes the shape closer to the original stitching of the leather. Leather doesn't shrink or expand in cold or heat like synthetic materials, and will last forever in a controlled environment. That is why real leather is expensive. Just for fun sometime you have some Styrofoam packaging, pound a big dent in it without cracking it. Hit it with that heat gun... Abracadabra... looks good as new. But don't be fooled. It loses its integrity and the first time someone sits on it... call it memory foam.. it compresses as before immediately. Great if you're selling a couch... tell them they can't sit on it until they get it home.

Never start heating directly at the creases. Be sure to start away from it and work your way into and around it. That's the reason your creases are still visible. 9 years experience heating leather airplane seat covers.

Really wish the OP would come back with how the seats held up over time after doing this! I would think your drying out the leather prematurely and causing more harm than good. Even with conditioning afterwards its like adding 5+ yrs of sun/ heat damage.... There's no magic for damaged leather unfortunately.

Don't let the dust and grit build up in your seats. As you get in and out and move around in the seat, that grit acts as little teeth, biting into the leather and seam threads.

Thanks for the video! It worked! I steam cleaned the black leather with orange stitching in my 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL with Touring Package and S-AWC today and wow! I have had it almost 6 months and by using my steamer and cloth pad on the seats the leather looks like the day I bought it. Its smooth, soft and has a matte finish again. Oh and it took a small crease out and tightened a tiny bit of stretching from my butt on driver seat. Awesome video thank you!

My question would be if you have seat warmers under that leather,...would applying that hot heat ruin the electric heating system under the leather?......
@fijod
@fijod 3 года назад
I don’t think so. I don’t have a heat gun but I use hair dryer to remove indentation on my bmw i8 and Mercedes c63 both cars have seat warmers. I remember seeing a video I think it was the Porsche factory, they use metal heat sticks(if I remember correctly) to remove the crease/dent marks on new leather seats that are going into new cars on the production line.

@kando3670
@kando3670 6 лет назад
I've sat on the seat about twice after doing this and to be honest, it is deforming, but not as much as before (i.e. before state). Someone recommended that you need to steam the seat foam under it. This is a lot of work, though I may try it one day and report back! Though if you have perforated seat leather like here, then maybe applying more steam to it would help form back the foam below. Thanks for watching!

@kevincarter7102
@kevincarter7102 2 года назад
No it's is not. It's only temporarily expanding the cheap foam underneath it... it will look great until the first time someone sits on it... then back to like before. If not the first time. Very quickly for sure. So if you wanted a new bottom for comfort, this will do you no good. If it's for looks, it's a great temporary fix if you need to make a great first impression

@michaelschnippel6926

I would think the same thing, you're temporarily tightening the leather...sit in it a few times and it will quickly stretch back out. I think the only way to eliminate it completely is to unstitch and take in the slack...which would be a monster pain in the but. Applying heat like that is a tricky situation...you can easily burn the leather as he noted...so it's a bit risky to do. Burn the leather and you will be VERY upset...but I think it could be fixed as well if you accidentally did that...just not easily.
