Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your videos. You inspired me to start my own detail business by just using basic stuff and do basic work. Clay bar, vacuum, spray wax, hand wash and dry and detailing interiors. Superior Auto Detail page now published and I’ve got two satisfied customers behind me. I owe it to you for encouraging people like me to go ahead and start. Also, tips like this seatbelt cleaner are what will get me to the next level! Thank you sir!!

I like the way you think, same way as I do. Not many of us out there. I took my car to the detailer for interior for the first time and they been in business 30 years.. the person who did my car been working for them 13 years. Got my car back, worst job ever. Brought back for redo, even worse.. even the owner was embarrassed when i brought it back 3rd time and gave me my money back. Now, I'm using that money to buy my own detailing tools, watching all yours and others videos just to gain knowledge and I thank you for putting so much time and detail in your videos, i greatly appreciate it. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself, but you also have to have the right way of thinking with "detail" perfectionist, OCD, whatever people wanna call it, it's what sets us apart from everyone else. I got into custom fishing rod building because 90% of builders don't pay attention to details.. drives me nuts.. detailing is my next journey and thank you for helping me along the way.

Not only they are difficult, but if your seat belt does not retract properly it's because it's dirty. A good cleaning is definitely a helpful device to keeping your seatbelt working properly. You've got it right guy, good job. But don't ever forget to tell people if it doesn't retract properly that's why. It's not the spring getting weak or broken. It's because of tons of dirt in it.

i ran a car detailing biz for 15 years...contracted to Mercedes Benz...washed 100s of cream belts... i used to for years "pre cautiously" scrub n rub belts...with poor results.... then 1 day after a car sales rep copmplained....i un bolted the bottom of the belt...pulled all 7 feet of the belt out of the car...slammed the door on the belt to stop it retracting...sprayed both sides of belt with degreaser (un dilutted)...then blasted with 3000 psi water pressure (both sides) of belt...3 inches away with gun... belts look 100% like brand new....no scrubbing needed...let the gun do all the work...nothing cleans better
@OMGWTFLOLSMH
@OMGWTFLOLSMH 6 лет назад
3000 psi sounds like a good way to damage the belt webbing. Pretty sure no manufacturers would recommend this technique.

Thanks Scott -- and no, this is not boring. I bought a pre-owned 2019 Acura 5 months ago and have been watching detailing videos of yours so I can clean the areas that I have noticed since the purchase that need attention (leather seats, seat belts, etc). For a vehicle that really looked super-clean, I've noticed little things that make me wonder what the previous driver did lol!

Scott I have used SuperClean on my seatbelt and headliner. I was at show and the rep said to try it because it doesn't have bleach in it and it's safe on clothes, upholstery, carpet, etc. Good Cleaning!

How would you compare SuperClean to Purple Power? I have been going with Purple Power because it is half the price and it works fine for what I have been using it for, but if SuperClean is superior, I would use it for certain applications.

First of all you really helped me out with the suggesting of the Super Clean Degreaser. Wow that stuff is great and so far on light tan interior it didn't leave any spots. Other cleaners I had been using might be a little darker or lighter after cleaning. The Super Clean seems to get the stain out but not leave anything behind. Love it!!! Also love you can mix different strengths. Now I have a suggestion for you and anyone reading. I don't reccommend the scissors to trim the frayed edges on the seat belts or even some mats, especially kevlar shears like you showed. I was worried I might make a mistake and cut the belt but also don't wanna go insanely slow to be that careful. I tried really sharp flush cutters as well but also didn't like it. Instead whats way faster, way safer, and leaves very flush nice looking cuts on any of the frayed edges is a defuzzer/fabric shaver. Once I figured out to use this I was getting the stains out and knocking out the frayed edges with great quality but a lot less worries about damage having an open blade. Hope that might help someone out there! Thanks Scott!

Again, working at Car Mart, I dealt with some severely dirty cars, and I had to resort to some really radical cleaning techniques. Just like with the carpets, I would remove the seat belt from the car completely, stretch it out on the cement and take a power washer to it. It would remove every bit of dirt and stains. I wouldn't go to that extreme with most cars, but if you come across something super dirty seat belts, it will work

It's called a retractor. Careful using a degreaser. Most are corrosive and if not totally rinsed out, can cause chemical burns on skin! I've seen other vids using a soaking method in a bucket. A clean, dry belt will retract properly.

I'm surprised you don't run out of oxygen. Like the idea of scotch guard. Nice touch. Easier way to do it is soak the seatbelt in hot water with laundry detergent added in for 30 min. Wipe the belt down to remove as much water as possible. Let dry for 30 min then scotch guard and no stinky ap cleaner smell. Just from experience.

Before I found you on RU-vid, I had viewed some vids of people cleaning seat belts that don't retract. The drivers side belt on my car doesn't retract by itself. They soak the belt in a bucket of water mixed with cleaner to try to resolve this issue. I thought for sure that you were going to soak the belt in a bucket of water mixed with Super Clean. :) I was going to try that on my car seat belt. Do you have any thoughts on this method before I try it?
@specopsbrat5130
@specopsbrat5130 7 лет назад
I pull the seat belt all the way out and close the door on it leaving it hanging outside the car, then spray it with Purple Power degreaser, and then pressure wash it with a little short wand under low pressure. You have to be careful not to get too close because you can damage the belt and fray it. I've got it down to a science. You have to hold the belt so it doesn't slap against the car and wear gloves so you don't damage your hands with the pressurized water.

However, let's say a customer came to you and said "Hey I only have X (1/2 your basic package) amount of money, but I really like what you do and how you work. Can you just do the best you can for that price?" Would you deny that customer or do it and simply concentrate on the more important areas? Great video though. In the beginning stages of my business and that's one of the dilemmas I come across and would like to get your opinion. Thanks.

The local detailers I've talked to said they don't clean the seatbelts b/c of the "fibers" they're made of and how it's impossible to get them clean. Sounds like it might be an excuse to get out of dealing with that detail. I notice things like that and when I buy a car that has nasty seatbelts, you can bet I'm cleaning them with anything/everything I can find b/c that's just nasty! I relate it to moving into a house that hasn't been cleaned! Why would I want to wallow around in other people's dirt.....eeeewwwwww!!!!
