Washing the filter only with water was useless... When i washed it with a mild soap like facewash, dirty dark water started to ooze out... And Dyson Cust Care keeps warning you that we should not use any soap otherwise the filter will get damaged... So i want to ask will dust caked up with water not damage the filter??? Why cant dyson come up with material that can be washed with soap??? It all seems like some cunning scheme to fool customers to damage their own machine by washing the filter with only water and allowing the layers of dust to get solidified... So that the motor colapses and we buy a new machine...
@@shobhaguha2425 it seems like every company out there is like this. It never made sense to me to "wash" anything with water alone. Water alone does nothing especially to any filter. I'm going to try cleaning it with k&n filter cleaner. They have an excellent product for their filters. Just don't use the red oil obviously lol
Thanks for the video! Going to clean the filters now. FYI to the people in drought areas, you don't have to leave the sink running the entire time. You only need it while you rinse. It's ok to turn it off.....
I do love these V7 and V8 models, but I really wish Dyson would supply each machine with two filters, so that you can use the machine whilst the other filter is out of the machine and drying, I know it would cost that little bit more, but I think it would be worth it for them in the long run.
Fantastic! Thank you for this hugely timely video as today 17 Dec 20 as this is the first time I've ever needed to clean the filters since purchased. IMPROVEMENTS: Minor but worth doing 1) As video shows gently tap as much of the fine dust out of the main filter. Now this step surprised me ... there was so SO much! 2) Following this, to save water, I filled about 2 to 3 liters of 'just' tepid water into a washing bowl and swirled it until the water turned dark ... then emptied the water and repeated this process 3 times as the last rince came up clear. So reusing this clean water, I rinced the other filter ... tho I let this sit a couple of minutes and swirled it again - then rinsed under tap. Job done!!! Both are now sitting on the radiator and I'm completely delighted this was so easy. How great!! Thanks!
I repaired one of those hoovers. Was in a bad state. Opened up the top filter, after giving it a bloody good soaking and it was full of crap, hair, fibres, god knows what else. Cleaned it out properly while trying not to snap the crap plastic clips and it worked perfectly afterwards.
Pull the pre motor cone filter apart by releasing the 3 tabs under the two rubber seals and you'll really see how much crap builds up in there, a quick rinse does SFA
This is actually a useless video. These filters hardly get dirty and even if they do you can hardly tell. A better video would be to turn down the aesthetic and make a practical video on how to clean the dirty parts that actually suck the dirt.
Returned mine because after 5 months it kept stopping and starting. Replaced it with the same model. Never knew to clean the filter so hopefully this will solve the problem. 👍
I've rinsed and both filters seem clean, but if the carrot-shaped filter is inserted, the vacuum pulses on and off. Without that filter inserted, runs continuously
Nice to see on how Dyson has made an excellent, rampant change, in the way they design their vacuum cleaners these days. Also, it's nice that Dyson addressed the recent problems, back then when the DC35 had a battery problem, which was very common and annoyingly enough, it happens every 5 to 6 times while in use. The simplicity on Dyson's internal filter configuration, is a nice change when the DC59 was introduced. Also, the DC59 served as the later and current build of Dyson's later models of cordless vacuum cleaners.
Best one ever made was the V6. Light, had a wide motorhead version, simple, and easier to manage. These new ones are fancy and all, but way too bulky, break easily, and awkward to empty.
I remember having one that made a horrendous noise when the brushbar jammed, i wanted to unengineer the noise, but should never have been released like that or at least had a callback on it. Sounded like a wounded animal! Terrible thing🤣
There are a lot of places in the world, including Colorado, where I live, where running the water at length to rinse out a vacuum filter would be considered wasteful. We don't even run the water while brushing our teeth. Most of the American West is experiencing a terrible drought. It's time to update your filter cleaning method. Personally, I leave them to soak in warm water in a mixing bowl then run my fingers over them to loosen the dirt, soak again, repeat as needed until you can't see much if any dirt in the rinse water. Seems to work well and probably uses a quarter of the water you would use with the method in this video.
Hi Gizem. Thanks for dropping us a message. This is completely normal however after washing the filter and the performance of the Dyson machine had not improved we can assist by completing diagnostics with your Dyson machine. If you do require further assistance with your Dyson machine we do ask for you to please DM us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for further assistance as we're unable to send you a DM as this option is restricted on RU-vid.
If you want the ASMR to work you need to do the tapping softly :D lol jokes aside , this Dyson is a beast , didnt think i would ever love a vacuum cleaner .... but here we are :D ;P lol
I have a Dyson and I love it. Still, this video makes me laugh. They’re “cleaning” a brand new vacuum and all they do is rinse it for a solid 3 seconds 😂
In normal domestic use we do recommend washing this filter monthly, to help make sure your vacuum continues to work as well as it should do. But this will vary according to use. In colder weather, you can dry the filter by a radiator or inside an airing cupboard, if this helps 🙂
Omg how much water did you spend during filming of this video!? You can turn off the tap you know :) Now comes the question, how do I clean the actual filter part that smells.
there is only 2 filters,,,, unfortunately this whole leave for 24hours to dry is crap,, the rear filter Doesn't dry in the open and just starts to smell, since air can't pass through it or around it to dry.
My V8 absolute was working perfectly well until I cleaned the two filters as shown in your video. Now it's suffering from "pulsing". Only if I pull out the rear filter the pulsing problem will stop, so this seems an issue with the rear filter. How? I left it dry 2 full days before using it. Please help!
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. So we can give you the most accurate information, can you please confirm what country you are located in and the model of your machine?
@@dyson thanks. I have actually solved the pulsing problem by doing another robust washing to both filters and allowing a full 2 days drying for good order sake. I think the issue might have been that the rear filter was still humid when I installed it and the air does not flow out well through a not perfectly dried filter. The instructions booklet refers to a 24 hours drying time but I personally think it should be at least 48 hours.
@@arus73 same thing happened to mine… waiting for it to dry completely and it’s been two days. They should explain this better because 24 hours is not it
@@dianadimascio947 I remember at the time I was so exhausted that I bought some extra filters, which worked perfectly fine. However, I did not want to surrender on the old filters and I did try again to make a very, very deep and precise washing of them and allowing a long drying time (unfortunately I don't remember how long but certainly longer than 2 days) and they worked fine again!
We'd be happy to help you troubleshoot, Lynette. And if a repair or replacement part is needed, we can also help confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty. Just visit dyson.com and click Support - you'll find contact details for the Dyson Customer Care team in your country.
Start from the cheapest and work your way up. Remove cone filter and test the dyson if no good remove rear motor filter and try again. No difference then check the opening where the dirt goes into canister, no blockage? Flap door working? Not stuck? No change then it could be internal in the canister (blockage) or battery.
The filter is designed and tested to withstand monthly cycles of washing and air-drying as shown in our video guide. It's important to ensure the filter is totally dry before refitting it - this may take at least 24-48 hours. Putting it somewhere warm, like on a sunny window sill, by a radiator, or in an airing cupboard should help. As long as these steps are followed correctly, we wouldn't expect any issues.
Hi Melissa, We'd be happy to assist you with your filter. Please reach out by contacting the Dyson helpline in your country directly, using a live chat service on the Dyson website if available, or sending us a DM via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter/X: @ AskDyson and we'll continue there.

I agree Stephanie!! Tried mine back in after 24 hours - and the Dyson V8 would not work! The V8 recognised the filter was not completely dry!! I've bought spare GENUINE Dyson filters off ebay, so I've got one clean set I can use use while the other set is drying. You should not dry them on a very hot radiator. They should just "air dry" which takes 48 hours, at least.
Same!!!!!! They look brand new and nothing tapped or rinsed out?!!! But the amount of dust and hair it picks up is unmatched. Too bad this doesn’t address cleaning the catch and it’s flap

It seems like guys have a universal problem of turning the water on high, even when high is too high, and splashing water all over the place. It is my pet peeve. Hey guys! You don't need to turn it so high, waste water, splash the water all over, and surely not wipe it up.
Battery life isn’t great on full power. It’s only lasts seconds. If I put it on the lower power setting it last about half hour , why is this happening
If you'd like some help with your Dyson feel free to send us a direct message on Twitter at twitter.com/AskDyson or private message from facebook.com/dyson with the serial number of your machine.
Yeah....I thought that - Lol. I wish my kitchen was so clear!! Wish I was "minimalistic" - it would be so easy to clean around, with nothing to move out the way!
Don't buy this hoover to hoover your house. you will be frustrated, very frustrated. 1) the 'wall holster' only holds 3 tools it comes with 6! so the other three have to lay around or Dyson support recommend “putting them in a draw…” but why make half a wall holder in the first place? 2) it takes 2 days to hoover your house, the charge lasts for less than 10 minutes!!! good luck speed cleaning your house in that time - you can have a 5 hour rest though whilst you wait for it to recharge. 3) the 'exhaust; blows air out near the handle... so often if used with the short fitting the exhaust blows all the dust away before you get to it!!! 4) Dyson support said "get a toothbrush and a tooth pick" to clean the various filters - yes really - otherwise it doesn't pick anything up. so get a good toothbrush as you'll need to clean the hoover inside and out at LEAST every month... washing the filter… and drying it, more time to relax and think about hoovering tomorrow. 5) to extend charging - get another battery - Dyson support advise to "remove the 3 screws holding the battery in place... and get another battery" - so you get double the hoovering time, double the charge time too (10 hours) I have done this and now the battery falls out every time I use it... I guess it's another 'feature' feels a bit unsafe though having a heavy battery falling out every time you pick it up... not sure about Health and Safety - but it was recommended by Dyson... So buy this for hoovering crumbs off the table and little things - not a whole house hoover - it is underperforming, under powered and over priced. A very expensive disappointment.
Hi Idegel, after washing your machine's filters, try tapping them repeatedly until nothing more comes out, then leave them to dry where plenty of airflow can get to them - perhaps on a windowsill or under a covered verandah. Dry the prefilter with the open end down, you may like to set it on a mesh screen or raise one end slightly to increase the airflow getting in. As the filter dries over the next 24+ hours, repeat the tapping procedure if desired, once it looks and feels completely dry do a final tap to make sure there are no more droplets left. If your machine's still not working please contact us directly for assistance - via private message on Facebook, Instagram or at AskDyson on Twitter.
Hello. We kindly ask you to please send us a private message via one of our social platforms so that we can assist you. We look forward to hearing from you. 😀
