How To Clean Your Sword Without A Cleaning Kit

Here are some tips on how to clean your sword without a cleaning kit. In this video I specifically use a katana, because it's what I have. You can do this with any sword. It is quite simple to do and it's much easier than you think it is. Choji oil isn't pricey but you have to buy it online which is irritating, so why not just go to your local supermarket and pick up the proper stuff to clean your sword with? After watching this video, you will find it easy to get materials to clean your sword with, and will never have to worry about ordering stuff to clean your sword ever again!

I have found that by using circular cosmetic applicators work great on Katana blades along other steel blades, much easier to control and apply the necessary oils and cleaning solutions. Give them a try, as stated, they work great. Use very little oil for protection. Too much only contaminates the inside of the swords's sheathe.

I've never seen anyone clean the blade with the edge facing into the hand. Turn the blade so you always run your hand along the back of the blade. I'd just add a proper cleaning kit is like 15-20 dollars, so if you have a real blade where you've invested hundreds of dollars, then it's a false economy to use second rate maintenance. Dont be so tight!

Hey can I have your opinion, I have several katanas and for one (my cheapest one lol) I clean it with 2 things .. 1. Gun cleaning wipes which u can buy at a Walmart and synthetic gun oil which u can buy at Walmart also however you can get one at a gun shop for 6-$ anyways so I get the wipes and wipe it clean then use the oil with the wipes to clean it off more and usually the white wipes get dark if it’s dirty then i apply a small amount of oil to the sword and it’s been working ! Ive been doing this for 2 years It hasn’t rusted and it’s a cheap 40$ katana.. I’m thinking of making a video with a similar title, lol .. anyways thanks for sharing the video I’ll try this method see how it goes !

DjNj23: If you do it the traditional way it would be only once or twice a month, and it depends on what steel your blade is , mainly swords that are made from certent types of steel like tamahagene, carbon, damascus etc.. stainless steel though it. doesn't matter, not prone to rust as bad as other types, his method in the vid works but yes, clean at least once or twice every week or two.

@@edwardlivesay1221 you forgot to mention too much would damage the sword. I’d personally advise getting iaito (blunt katana) for two reasons. 1: if you bought the sword to train with (or practice water breathing) then using a blunt sword would make it extremely difficult to accidentally hurt yourself. 2: it’s made from a zink alloy, so it won’t oxidize as fast as tamehagane that’s typically used in traditional katana.

Yes, he's company is not re-sellers they are swordmanufactors. Thats why you can get a sword that normally would go for 1000 dollars (or much more actually considering transport, import charges etc etc), for only 500 dollars approx. As i stated, for the quality of the blades these prices are unmatched anywhere i've seen :P Im no sword expert but ive seen swords for over 1000 dollars, that didnt even come close to my 250 dollar katana (tested in real ofc.) Hope this helps man

@@mattgamer0846 are you trying to clean something in particular off your blade? If not, if you're just maintaining it, use a microfiber cloth to wipe off all the old oil, then put some new oil on another cloth or paper towel and wipe a new layer of oil onto the blade. You can use the same towel to lightly wipe off any excessive oil... you just need a very thin coat remaining on the blade. That's it.

@@davec3651 well, actually my sword is a replica Katana and the blade is dull, I won't use it for any kind of impacts, just for display and sometimes playing with it Edit: as a replica katana it doesn't have those two nails that every legit katana have in the handle

What if your sword’s colored? I don’t wanna ruin my sword’s blade, and it’s blue Also, there’s a better way to wipe off your sword, that’s not only faster, but minimizes risk of getting cut. First, put a cloth on over your hand and shape your hand like a C. Then put it over the dull part of the sword and close your hand enough to have a firm grip on the blade. It’s supposed to resemble a katana sandwich. Then move your cloth along the blade. Done right, you should be able to wipe the blade in a single motion without a cut.
