Thank you very much for the information you provide, however I have a question, I couldn't see the point of doing such a system, I mean what if a failure happened to the io cards, and that's more common than failures in cpus, then both cpus with be in sf mode and the system will go down, I have faced such a problem before in a cement factory.

Great job! I know working principle is the same but, Are there any differences between s7-1500 R/H system and s7-300 ?
@realpars
@realpars 4 года назад
There are a number of differences, including performance and form factor, but the underlying programming and interface concepts are nearly the same. To construct the same redundant setup as in the video except for an S7-1500R, you would only need to connect the CPUs via redundant ProfiNet cables (Profinet ring). For an S7-1500H, there is a synchronization module at each CPU connected by fiber optic cables. For the S7-1500, the redundancy is easier to install and configure, requires less hardware, and has much better performance.

Hi, I wanted to ask if the redundancy is possible using ethernet protocol and not a profibus one. I think that it is possible even if i don't know how it is done....and it is more easy at programming it
@realpars

For S7-300, you should use Profibus for having the CPUs working as a redundant system. But for S7-400 you can use Ethernet as well.

Hello friends, what is the possibility that with the equipment you mentioned in this video we can implement a ring type network to have redundancy in case of a break in the Profibus cable that communicates the PLC with the ET200?
@realpars
@realpars 2 года назад
You will need to use CPU's and communications modules that support MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) and have 2 ProfiNet ports (not the same as Profibus DP). I know the S7-1500 CPU and ET200SP remote I/O offer this feature. Some models of the S7-300 do, but you would have to use an ET200MP remote I/O system to get the Profinet connectivity.

Hi, thanks for video. One question, after failure of master, slave kick in. After error was fixed does master overtake control from slave or it will stay as slave till new master fails ? Does one of them have higher priority than other or its manually set witch will be master by operator?
@realpars
@realpars 6 лет назад
Hi, you're very welcome. In this redundant system, when PLC A fails, PLC B is going to take over the control of the system and stays active regardless of the error being fixed for PLC A or not. None of the PLCs have a higher priority over the other. I hope this helps.
@delvinmata5653
@delvinmata5653 2 года назад
Thank you very much for the information, it is perfectly understood, now I have a question. What would happen if one of the ET 200 fails? Or, what would happen if the profibus cable that communicates one of the PLCs with one of the ET 200 suffers a fault? Would the backup ET 200 continue to send the required information transparently?
@realpars
@realpars 2 года назад
Yes, it would failover to the backup if the primary ET200 faulted or the cable was damaged. If the backup fails, the primary will continue to operate. In either failure case, diagnostic information will be available., indicating that the fault has occurred.

Hi What is the repeater for? Can we omit it and tie its inputs and outputs together, as we have in the software (hardware configuration)?
@realpars
@realpars 5 лет назад
Hi Mohammadreza, It is possible to connect up to 126 devices, both masters and slaves in a Profibus DP network. However, to operate the network with this number of bus stations, the bus must be divided into individual segments. The segments then must be connected by repeaters, devices capable of processing the network signal and handle disturbances or noises in a way to reject them and re-create a favorable situation to the physical layer. No, it is not possible to tie the inputs and outputs of an RS485 Profibus DP together at all! Thanks

Great video, it's possible to do a redundant system with 2 different CPUs with the same IO configuration? In example: one S7-315 and one S7-312, respecting memory and processing times by the slowlier CPU capacity?
@realpars
@realpars 3 года назад
I believe it is, as long as each CPU has the same I/O hardware configuration employed. Redundancy in an S7-300 system is software redundancy and is driven by program blocks configured in the CPUs. Normally, the CPUs are the same model, but as long as the same program can be executed in each of the CPUs you have listed, the redundancy approach should be possible.

Is the switchover bumpless? If no then what is the switchover time.
@realpars
@realpars 5 лет назад
The S7-300 family of processors uses a strategy called "software redundancy". According to the Siemens Software Redundancy manual (A5E02171565-02), the transfer from primary to secondary takes 1 - 2 OB cycles (typically 30 - 200ms depending on program complexity). When a fault is detected, the outputs are frozen and the Process I/O Image (PIO) is transferred from the primary to the secondary. This is what takes 1 - 2 OB cycles.

Do you need to configure anything on the CPUs so they know they are working en redundancy mode and which one is the master? or do they seemingly detect they are redundant...? thanks!

With S7-300 redundancy, you need to configure the hardware configuration for redundancy as add programming via specific blocks (SWR_START, etc.) and interrupt blocks to make the switchover efficient and reliable

What is SCALANCE X208? Is this also use for the HMI like repeaters?
@realpars
@realpars 6 лет назад
Hi There, it's a Siemens SCALANCE X208 Managed Switch ‑ 8 Ethernet Ports. The switches are ideally suited for the design of Industrial Ethernet networks with 10/100 Mbit/s in line, star or ring structure. The integrated redundancy manager of the SCALANCE X-200 switches can be used to build redundant optical or electrical ring structures. The units feature extensive diagnostic options, such as PROFINET You can monitor field devices via HMI And PLCs. So in order to make a connection with them and reach your final desired movements, you can use this switch device to give orders constantly based on your power system plan. Hope this answers your questions.

1:38 "we have the same situation in Rack3",if rack2 and 3 both are same situation,then how do u conclude A is master?
@realpars
@realpars 3 года назад
Rack 2 and Rack 3 are connected to a redundant pair of PLCs, PLC A and PLC B. Racks 2 and 3 have 2 ET200M Link cards. The left-hand cards are connected to PLC A via a Profibus connection. The right-hand cards are connected to PLC B through a separate Profibus segment. When PLC A is the master, the left-hand Link cards are active; when PLC B is the master, the right-hand Link cards are active. At 1:38 in the video, the Active light on the left-hand Link cards are on, so PLC A is the active PLC in the redundant pair.

Could anyone please explain the difference between 300's soft redundancy and 400's hardware? Thanks.
@realpars
@realpars 5 лет назад
With software redundancy, two CPU's with the identical program are running at the same time. The master executes its program in it entirety. The standby program executes, but skips the fault-tolerant portion of the program (logic and setting of outputs). The master continuously updates the secondary's memory and PIO table. When a fault occurs, the secondary begins execution of the entire program and takes over as master. This may take a couple of cycle of the program to fully changeover. With hardware redundancy, two identical CPUs are connected to a redundancy module so that the synchronization of the data/memory spaces of the CPU's occurs through a high-speed fiber connection. This makes the synchronization of the CPU's much faster, and reduces the fail-over time when a fault occurs.
@anonymoususer5959
@anonymoususer5959 5 лет назад

@mnada72

In this configuration the redundancy is on the CPU level, but how to achieve redundancy on the I/O level ?
@realpars
@realpars 4 года назад
Thank you for the excellent question! To configure I/O redundancy, you will need to use an "H" series CPU, like the S7-400H. The manual for that CPU is here: cache.industry.siemens.com/dl/files/386/60458386/att_63953/v1/S7_400_h_en_en-US.pdf On the hardware side, you will need to read Chapter 13 of this manual to understand the concepts of "single-channel one-sided I/O" and "single-channel switched I/O". The use of specific IM interface modules is required as well. On the software side, understanding the concepts of activation and depassivation of I/O channels is critical, as is the use of specific functions (FC450-FC451) and function blocks (FB450-FB453). This takes a little practice and patience to set up your first redundant rack, but then it becomes easy to extend the concepts to additional racks. Special treatment of analog signals is required because analog cards behave a little differently in a redundant setup. This is all in the manual referenced above.

How to Configure an S7-300 Redundant PLC HW and SsaftW in tia portal
@scottsommer5450
@scottsommer5450 5 лет назад
This is a complex question. Hardware redundancy is S7-3xx is not supported by Siemens. It is supported by certain S7-400 CPU's. You would configure a software redundant S7-300 PLC pair in TIA Portal in the same way that it is done in STEP7. You would need to configure 3 ProfiBus networks: 1) PLC-A CPU to an IM-153 module in each I/O rack; 2) PLC-B CPU to a separate IM-153 module in each I/O rack from the one used for PLC-A; and 3) a Profibus network connecting a CP module in the PLC-A rack to a CP module in the PLC-B Rack. More info can be found in Siemens document A5E02171565-02. This just scratches the surface of setting up the entire application.
