The purpose of this video is to introduce you to the button navigation of the Intermatic DT122k Astronomic timer. Rather than belabor the details of setting each value in this video, I will attempt to help you understand what is going on with the buttons and how their meaning changes depending on the state the timer is in. Hopefully, you will be able to remember better how to configure this timer once you have a better understanding of the way it works, rather than simply slogging through the instructions.

Excellent tutorial. I used this information to program a Jewenwils model# TM-050A pool timer for sunset on and sunrise off in just a few minutes after wasting 2 hours trying to program this devise using their printed instructions. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video, as we had purchased 4 new Intermatic DT121K. I had everything figured out for programming these timers UNTIL I got to the end to make these timers work. You explained very clearly how the Mode button really has 2 functions, that is what messed me up every single time. As soon as I finished watching your video, I had all my timers up & running!!! It will work great for turning on & off a radio also at random times or however you wish to program, thanks again :) :) :)

Thanks for this video. The instructions say absolutely nothing about how to access the stored sunrise and sunset times so this video solved that. Once I saw this it took all of 10 seconds to properly finish the programming after having spent 30 minutes farting around tying to access the sunrise and sunset times. The timer itself is fine, its the instructions that are less than ideal. Thanks and Cheers

Makes total sense after a great explanation. I agree that they should have made a separate on/off override button that doesn't change the mode, but no big deal unless you forget to cycle through.

I have a Woods branded time but it seems to have the same options as what was described here. The video was well put together. Concise but enough detail was provide to allow me to understand what I was doing. Thanks for sharing this video.

Thank You 😊😊😊😊 Your video and explanation was simple and to the point. I purchased the dewenwils timer tm-050a that turns a fountain on and off. The instructions have been a battle to say the least but your video has made the setup simple. Thanks

Thank you! I had the Sunset setting working - it turned on at the right time, but hadn't configured the "Off at Sunrise" setting, so it stays on. I thought it would use both settings if you chose one. Now I know better!

Thanks for your explanation! I have this timer and I hate it, namely because they crammed tons of functionality into too few buttons. If I don't change anything on it for a few months, then have to adjust something, I have to go looking for the manual to RE-LEARN the darn thing. Tonight I will hit the reset button and start over, based on your instruction. The manual is pretty awful.

Came across your video from an Amazon review. You've explained this very well. I was wondering if this timer is still working out for you OK as several folks have stated that this timer totally failed after a couple months or so. I've been using the Intermatic DT 17 timer which is a much timer than anything offered today. After several power outages in the last eight hours, I could see the batteries were dead. It takes two 357 button batteries. However, the timer is so old that all the plastic is brittle and the little tray broke apart, and after gluing it back together, the little plastic tabs inside the timer broke when reinserting the tray to allow contact. Everything is so brittle and old, its time to replace it. Can you change the batteries on the DT122, and if so, do you know which batteries it takes? Does it have battery backup? Also curious on the timer functions, if you could set a turn-on time of "sunset" and then a specific turn-off time. Thanks again!

We have two of these controlling outdoor lights. They are enclosed in aluminum boxes along with the transformers for the lights. Certainly not air-tight and we get a lot of humidity, so pretty harsh conditions. They have worked flawlessly for the past 14 months. We have more than our fair share of power outages and the timings continue to hold -- its easy for me to notice since the lights are obvious from inside. I did notice that, as winter approached, the lights came on a little bit late (relative to sundown) and as spring is approaching they seem to be coming on a tad early. Not a big deal, imho. As for batteries and changing them, I have no experience or insights on that. As for "turn-on time of "sunset" and then a specific turn-off time" -- YES, this exactly what we do with our outdoor lights -- on at sunset, off at midnight. UPDATE: Sept 9, 2017. Our two timers were submerged in Hurricane Harvey. That was the end of them. They worked well up to that point. I am back here to watch my own video so I can refresh my memory on how to re-program. I thank myself :-)

How do I set it to randomly come on and off? I would like it to seem like someone is randomly turning the light off and on. Thanks!

So I just want this to turn on, then off at certain times, Mon -Fri. do I set it to 'auto on'? It didnt work that way. it turned on immediately, not at the specified time.

Sunrise/sunset doesn't dynamically update everyday. Once about every 5 to 7 days randomly.

Does anyone know how to change from one program to another program? If you have one set for seven days to work for 3 hours and one program to work for 10 hours, how to I toggle back and forth?

One of the most non intuitive and complicated devices ever made for something so simple as a timer. How do I know which program mode is being used? Am I in weekend only, weekday only or 7 days per week. It has no indicator which mode you're in. Does it just default to the last program that you selected? Your video is at least an improvement over the instruction sheet.

I have the Woods version of this timer and it is a Nightmare to try and set.Worse instruction and I am sorry but your explanation hasn't helped unfortunately.Thank you for your effort in attempting to explain, but to many functions in one single button. Great idea that was poorly executed into a usable timer.
