A 700R4 is a 4L60 and has a TV cable for shift timing and a lock up clutch circuit. A 4L60E needs a computer to control shifting, pressure, shift points, etc.
I have a 700 r4 in an old muscle car behind a small block Chevy. As soon as I put it in overdrive Lock up kicks in. But as I'm driving down the highway it shutters being locked up. Super annoying.
hey that plug thats on the driver side of my trans..has 3 wires comng out of it can i just take two of the wires and tie them both togather and the other wire to a 12 v source and put a switch on it...and i seen a edelbrock tps kit that mounts on the side of my carb and i can plug it in to my tps connector..
hey 1990 k5 blazer with the 700r4 i converted from tbi to carb so i dont have the computer for lock up anymore...so i hook a toggle switch up with the 3 wires from my pig tail plug do i leave my switch on at all times or will i mess up something if i dont shut it off when im at a low soeed...i appreciate your feedback.....
Hi there mountain garage, do you have the part number of the 700 lock up switch, can’t find anything on it in Australia, even a kit number would be great Regards Ross
hey got a question for you i have 1990 k5 blazer 700r4 trans..i just rebuild my engine and did lot of up grades i converted it over from tbi to carb so i no with out my computer i wont have no converter lock up ..so what u suggest would be the right converter lockup kit to buy i dont want to drive my truck with out it ..i no my trans may it hot with out it..let me know thanks..appreciate it..
There are $40 kits on eBay that add a pressure switch to the valve body. When it shifts into overdrive it locks the converter. When it shifts out of overdrive it unlocks it. Works slick, just need to feed the transmission 12 volts key on power.
@@rocketship607 The early lock up converters were just on and off and shouldn’t shudder. Later PCM controlled transmissions used pulse width modulation to soften the converter clutch engagement, leading to clutch wear and shudder. My video is just the non PCM controlled transmissions.
Hello sir I have a 4l60e do I have to have this lock up working for it to just shift thru all the gears my issue is a new trans but will not shift from 2nd to 3rd
The kits for the 2004R and 700R4 4 speeds have a switch that closes in OD and sends power to the Lockup Solenoid so it’s locked all the time in OD. A 350C could be powered with a manual driver controlled toggle switch, or revamp the factory wiring and switches. If the switch still exists at the brake pedal and on the valve body you could probably make it work and would switch off when your foot is on the brake.
My car shifts into second gear at approximately 15km/h, 3rd gear 30 km/h 4th gear 45km/h and overdrive and lockup at 80km/h. To save fuel, is it possible to change lockup to 60km/h? It has a 1.6l engine.
Do you mean the torque converter locks at low rpm? In that case you could put a switch between the wire and the solenoid valve so it doesn't lock 🔒 when the switch is off, but remember to put the switch back on when going at higher speeds 👍👍the best solution would be to switch automatically at a certain speed but for that you need to use a computer, or Arduino with some knowledge after a couple of RU-vid tutorials watching 👍👍👍
@pierrejeanes yes when ur in a 30 mph zone and it shifts in2 3rd gear 2 or 3 seconds later the converter locks in and drops the rpm's down to 1300 and won't come out the truck is completely useless especially when I'm towing my 16ft enclosed trailer or plowing with sander in back what u mentioned is exactly what I want to shut it off how is this done? I have spent 600.00 dollars already on a tuner it helped the truck from shifting straight up in2 6 gear at under 40 mph and it downshifts better but didn't do anything about the converter locking in so early.if u could tell me how to do what u mentioned it would be so greatly appreciated I'm ready 2 get rid of this truck do to this issue if I could manually turn it on and of that would be great I hardly ever go out of my town I'm always in a 40 mph zone and the truck is always bogging its so frustrating
@pierrejeanes thank you for your call back and reply on here I finally got rid of the problem yesterday 5 star tuning was able to disable the converter from locking up in 1-4 and 5 and 6 is overdrive and he said they can completely disable it if I want.ive had the truck a little over a year now its got 11,000 miles on it and today is the first time I've driven it since I've bought it and not wanted to crash it in2 a tree such a difference not having it bogging all the time
