This is the best video i have seen on this subject. Thank u. Itd be great if those instructional videos didnt have a distracting looped guitar riff over them that is drowning out the instructions.
The 700r4 out of an astro van is inferior to one that came out of a vehicle that was a V8 . the astro is a V6.and is lighter duty. Really all you have to do is run your 12v down to your hot wire at the plug, Then take the other two wires and twist them together, the trans will do everything that it is supposed to do . It will lockup when it is supposed to and unlock when you let off the gas. I was skeptical of this when I saw a video on You tube about this . So I tried it and it works perfect. But it will only work on the 1987 and up trans. Not on the 1982-1986. P.S. I have a 1985 C-10 stepside and I love it.
If you don't run lockup in a stock 700r4 you will burn the overdrive up. If you're just going 40 mph or under, just leave it in 3rd gear. You should've gotten a 2004r, because they have much better gearing. I got one and I'm gonna have it built up and put it in my chevelle so I can have overdrive.
So I’m about to put a 700r4 from a 92 checy truck with a 3000 stall converter in my 85 Chevy. I ordered the TV cable and I wasn’t going to do anything g to the lock up because I’m not running cruise control. Should I be concerned and wire the lock up? Thanks
@@ActiveDadsRule Listen and understand that if you don't run lockup in a 700r4, then you will burn up the overdrive. You need to run a brake switch and a manifold vacuum switch also so it unlocks the converter clutch when you step on the brake and when you slam the throttle down hard. Do you understand me? Don't just hook the wires together, that's for stupid people who don't know what they're doing.
I'd say if first depends on if your stall converter is a lockup converter, but if it is you would want to wire it so it locks up. It greatly reduces heat when crusing
Preciate you posting this..very helpful I have this same modification for a client to do I've been avoiding doing this type of conversion but6 you've made it cut-and-dry Good stuff!
hey got a question for you i have 1990 k5 blazer 700r4 trans..i just rebuild my engine and did lot of up grades i converted it over from tbi to carb so i no with out my computer i wont have no converter lock up ..so what u suggest would be the right converter lockup kit to buy i dont want to drive my truck with out it ..i no my trans may it hot with out it..let me know thanks..appreciate it..
I'm cheap and I like custom so I just put gauges into the gauge bezel and it worked great, had to use some heat to open the holes up enough for the gauges to push into it but just use a heat gun not open flame or you will have a black fire ball
got a question for u ..i got a 1990 k5 blazer 700r trans 2000 to 2400 torque converter in it and im thinking about buying this race motor it has 12.5 to 1 sbc 355 030 over with elgin e-1090p solid flat tappet cam with scorpion 1.6 rockers for total lift of 573 intake 594 exhust can i use the torque converter i have on this engine,,..i no i got alot of things to change because it is a tbi fuel injection
With a built motor and a large cam I'd reach out to Elgin and ask them what converter would work beat with that cam. I don't want to steer you wrong but I'd think you need a higher stall than what you have.
I have a question bro the power for the lockup does it has to stay on while your on the highway or ot has to put power just ones or do it need to stay on in order to be on overdrive
Do you turn on lockup at 60? Or you have it on then hop on the highway? I swapped a th350 to 700r4 in my gbody and I have it hooked to a vacuum switch, when it goes into second it locks my converter and like surges was thinking I have to much vacuum because it shouldn’t be engaging that low but works with od unplugged
It didn't come on at any set speed, just in 4th with the vacuum switch and time delay was met. Do you have a time delay relay? You can also drop the pan and unhook the solenoid so that it only locks the converter in 4th. There are some RU-vid videos on it.
@@avarageerod I do not have a timed relay, I’m having the issue do to me not knowing how the wiring harness was inside is set up so I’m going to have to drop pan and rewire
