Boy am I thankful I stumbled upon your video. I hooked up a Walmart sound bar to my Sony TV, and thought I would forever need to use two remotes! I had originally hooked it up with the optical cable since it’s an older TV, but it now works perfectly in the headphone jack of the TV! I’m willing to degrade my audio minimally for the convenience, but it’s only TV so who cares if you lose any audio quality. I can still stream my music to it via Bluetooth
I know that this is an old video, but it solved my problem that I have tried to solve for months.I don't have to go out and spend more money on a new soundbar. Thanks!
Thank You for this video. I have a high end soundbar and was about to give up using it. Using the digital optical cable as a connection I could never find the sweet spot volume. It was either too loud or too soft. This connection you recommend produces the perfect volume. Two thumbs up!
I’m trying to use studio monitors usually used for music production as my tv sound system. I want to find a way to use the tv remote to control the volume on them since these monitors can’t be controlled by remotes. Would plugging the speakers into the headphone jack on the tv allow me to use tv remote to control the speaker volume?
If your remote is “not” programmable the only “potential” way to control the volume is by connecting using RCA and setting your TV speakers, “IF” your TV has these setting available, to external and variable
personally I'd just use a digital or coax connection to the sound bar (if that's available) and program the remote to control the sound bar audio instead of the TV then disable the TV audio. that's IF you have a remote that can be programmed like that though
+sweetbrandigirl Apparently it's because this doesn't work with optical, because optical is not capable of volume adjusting. You either use RCA and have it so you can adjust volume or use optical and have a more desireable audio
sweetbrandigirl You use your TV remote to adjust the sound bar's volume? Because from what I understand you can't do that with optical cables. You can use your sound bar's remote to change volume but this video is about using the TV remote to change volume so you wouldn't have to switch between the remotes.
+sweetbrandigirl It's way more convenient. I did it for my dad who's older cos it's simpler for him to understand. And to my ear, i cannot hear any difference between optical and analog audio. Perhaps some audiophiles can but it sounds fine on both to me. One issue i will raise, though, is you get a bit of white noise when it's switched off with the analog setup.
Your sound bar should have physical buttons mostly located on top or in the middle facing towards you You don't really need a remote to control your soundbar if it doesn't have one that's pretty stupid and a very poor design flaw Just like my Samsung soundbar has physical buttons without me using my media remote that came with it 😉👍
The volume control on the TV can be linked to the headphone/aux jack in settings. I set mine up this way. I just use the Sony TV remote to control the soundbar.
hi jeremy. did you have any luck locating your soundbar remote? if not, did you figure out how to turn it on without it? i would appreciate any help you are willing to give! thank you!!
You know this method does not work with me at all That's the one thing I hate about Samsung why do they have their audio jack and the optical jack audio fixed? I know for a fact they do that on purpose in order to sell their own Samsung soundbars which is downright corporate greed 😡 as much as I like Samsung TVs I think I'm going to permanently switch to Sony Bravia TVs because at least They allow you to use the TV remote to control external volume 😍👍 But until then I'm just going to find the most affordable Samsung soundbar that doesn't break my pocket 😑
Good point! I knew there was something fishy about the audio output not being variable as others! Samsung is also dumbing down their "Smart Tv" to a dumber tv by eliminating the Apps...totally nuts and worthy of changing brands despite having the best picture quality in the industry!
@@Wize817 To be honest it's a very dumb impractical business tactic 🤦♂️ Even Samsung's latest 2021 TV models still does not allow you to control external volumes with the Samsung remote That is insane and ridiculous 🤦♂️ They are doing this on purpose in order to sell their own sound bars 🤦♂️ What if someone already has excellent external speakers but they don't have a volume remote? You are stuck using the amplifier or the volume turn dial 🤦♂️ I'm done with Samsung They don't really care much about their smart TV apps I heard often times they don't even work 🤦♂️ And I'm lucky as fuck I picked the right time on Black Friday I managed to get the best value of my life I was able to purchase the 2021 model 50-inch Sony Bravia X85J for only $700 It's my first time owning a 4K TV from Best buy best deal I ever had 😍 And I am not disappointed with the picture quality😍 and the game mode is fantastic 😍 Especially I have my Xbox Series X That I got recently thanks to Best buy I also have a PS5 I am blown away how amazing every game looks at 4K HDR10 120 Hz My Sony Bravia X85J recently received a new system software update they finally added variable refresh rate I was able to use it on my series X And it has changed the way I play video games 😍 No more screen tear no more frame rate stutter 😍 And I have very old 2 stereo surround sound small external speakers from this brand miyako they are extremely powerful 😍 with movie theater sound It feels so good I am able to control the external speaker volume with the Sony Bravia TV remote 😍 sorry Samsung It's been nice knowing you But Sony Bravia is beyond better 😍 I'm sorry for the long text.
This is a terrible idea unless you have stuff that's old or missing features. HDMI ARC is the way to go. A soundbar that supports it should be fully controlled by the TV; RTFM. Part of the point of having a soundbar is to get the additional audio channels, especially the center channel so you're not constantly changing the volume between dialogue and Michael Bay explosions.
+noc007 Yeah - I spent $3000 in 2009 for a 55" LED Samsung TV that must be considered old as it does not have HDMI ARC. This video might've been helpful but back in 2009 my TV also didn't have a headphone input. Must be old. Betting that anyone that uses this to hook up their soundbar lacks head phone jack too
Yeah, sending an amplified signal from a TV's headphone jack into a soundbar is a good way to overload capacitors and cause your soundbar to stop working.
This won't solve all situations, it's a solution for people who want and feel this solution is suitable for them; we use it all the time because we like simply picking up one remote and muting it when we need. The top reasons that you won't be able tocontrol your soundbar volume with your TV remote are: 1) Red White RCA is analog and can be variable which is why we recommend having both connections, RCA and Optical 2) Optical is a fixed audio signal which transmits, when available, a 5.1 or other surround sound signal but because it's a fixed volume your TV remote probably won't ever be able to control it. 2) Your TV's remote control is NOT programmable; some are programmable...some are not. 3) Your TV does not have a variable audio output feature. To determine this go to: MENU>AUDIO/SOUND>look for either EXTERNAL SPEAKERS and/or VARIABLE AUDIO OUTPUT
All About Home Electronics.com I just got a Sony ht-ct80 and I would like to connect my dvd player to the sound bar will it work if I use a stereo jack to rca cable and connect the rca to the player red and white and connect the stereo Jack to the analogue jack of the sound bar
This was worthless and not close to the question I was asking. Didn't deal with Sony TV and JBL Sound Bar. Most of the connections comments didn't refer to Optical cable connection. Did not help.
