Thank you for the good tips. I would recommend using a Klein Tools 32305 Multi-bit Ratcheting Screwdriver as it comes with the combo #1 and #2 square bits that will make quick work of your screws with the driver constantly slipping out (since it's not exactly a Phillips or Slotted screw).

I just used one of the southwire smart boxes used in this video the other day. I did not have to pre drill the holes into the stud but I did have to use an impact driver with a long Phillips bit. Thanks for the video. Did not even know they made boxes you could screw into the stud on finished walls.

I like when he reaches around to the back of the stud and wall to help him install the box and test things. Most realistic part of the video otherwise very informative

Good advise on using the J-hooks and not using the “clamps” on the residential grade. Don’t ask how I know.

Great video, my question is I have metal Boxes in a house built in 1962. How would I remove the Metal J Box? Looking forward to your reply.
@krisd1000
@krisd1000 Год назад
If it is a 4x4 box and there is a mud ring, then you can cut the drywall around the 4x4 box (half on the left and half on the right) and then install a 2 gang mud ring and you will be good to go. I did that. You can tell if it's not a 4x4 box by seeing if it's a rectangular box and you can see the sides through the drywall. If it is then you will see a mud ring (most likely from the 60s) and metal behind the wall.
@krisd1000
@krisd1000 Год назад
Try feeling inside the box where the outlet was. If there is extra space on both sides then you have a square 4x4 box, also if it's a 4x4 metal box, then it very likely has 2 conduits going into it.

How about take one set of wires and convert to two sets of outlets. That's what the title implies. Not oh wow... I already have two sets of wires in the wall.

@chadhidalgo5763

What you are looking for is how to connect a new receptacle and new breaker. This is a much more involved process and should be left to a qualified electrician. In the video, he simply added an extra two receptacles to an existing circuit. Since there were two sets of wires, it means that yet another receptacle is somewhere in the same circuit. When you add receptacles to an existing circuit, you should be mindful of the number of loads and their total current draw to avoid tripping circuit breakers.

So how did you pull a single blue gang box with one set of wire, then magically it turned to a grey gang box with two sets of wires?😅
@mrsincere4640

No need to cut off the ends just use a wire nut
@urbsasusual

Even there is no electricity! DO NOT place the black and white wires touching each other - short circuit. It is your habit to be careless! Always cap the wires!
@genebeckley5189

You should show beginners how much length to strip of on the conductors by eye balling it and not using some fancy tool to put a hook on the wire pros don’t use that

Question please. Let's say that outlet is connected to a 20 amp breaker. Sence that outlet has 2 or 3 different connectors, does that mean each plug will have a 20 amp breaker limit. Reason is because I have dj equipment and they advice me to use different power outlet to power up my equipment and not to blown a breaker
@chadhidalgo5763
@chadhidalgo5763 5 месяцев назад
The 20 amp rating goes back to the circuit breaker in your electrical panel box. The whole circuit (i.e. all of the receptacles that are tied together) has a limit of 20 amps before tripping the breaker. If your equipment is drawing more than 20 amps, you will need to plug some of it into a different receptacle that is not wired together. In this video, he has two sets of wires in the wall. One set was the hot (line) and the other set simply connects this set of receptacles to another set located (usually) in the same wall. Check your breaker box for a listing of which receptacles are connected to each breaker. If there is no listing, you can use a circuit checking tool or old fashioned method, plug in a lamp and turn breakers off one by one. When the lamp turns off, you have found the breaker connected to that receptacle.
