In this video I demonstrate how to run a gasoline generator off of propane using a simple and easy method. The method demonstrated in this video does not meet safety guidelines and should be consider for use in an emergency situation only. This method is not intended for permanent unattended operation.

Yeah. I was like you until one day I sat down and thought about. "Flammable gas is flammable gas". I said to myself. "Why won't it just run on propane?" So I went out right then and tried it and it worked! Of course, as said in the video. There are not protections or safety measures, so it must be used with caution.

Loved your video! I new there had to be a simple easy way to use propane when you can't get gasoline. After a hurricane you need to be able to survive.

Now take you some of that expanding foam insulation and the seal up the hole around the hose and the air filter housing and you’ve got yourself a semi permanent fixture there.👍

I have seen other videos of the same process but I can honestly say I like yours best Any hoo in this world were everything is going to the greedy it's nice were a guy can find a few ways to save a few coins in his pocket propane is cheaper then gasalin per gallon and here in my town I can fill a 20gal tank for 10 bucks my generator holds 7gals do the math propane wins by a huge land slide yeah man now that's what we want to talk about And much better for our environment to boot honestly when the big company catches up to speed they will make it much like they did with gas by jacking the prices we can be happy for now Thank you for your presentation nicely done

While its running, test the voltage with a multimeter under a load while adjusting the RPM's until the voltage is at 120 or a little above. 3,600 RMP's is what my generator calls for to produce the correct voltage. A tachometer can be also be used if you know the recommended speed of your generator. Good video. KB

I have tried this A LOT and I would suggest you all spend a little money on an LPG carboretor conversion. Yes , it will idle on propane, yes you can run inductive loads but once you start making it do any real work by powering resistive loads, your knackered! Unless you are prepared to nurse the fuel/air mix manually for the duration of it's operation you are knackered. I bought a cheap propane carb for £30 from china. Functions just as it does on petrol and shuts off the gas flow when you turn it off. I came back to an empty gas tank and flat batteries after I THOUGHT I had the mix down and it was recharging batteries. It conked out not long after I left for another job. Waste of gas and no power to show for it. Now, after installing the new carb it does everything properly. Trust me. I've played with this stuff A LOT!

Never had a problem. Just run it rich when idling and it will have the fuel it needs under a load. Have run my riding lawn mower like this for 5 years. I have a five acre lawn and it gets TALL. I had to upgrade the blades to super heavy duty blades just to handle it. Never had a problem. Lawn mower works like new.

Jungle Explorer that's great. I had no end of problems when attempting to run the genny on gas through the air intake. It idles fine. I can run devices with motors (inductive loads) all day long but ask it to heat water and charge 6 leisure batteries and it complains like hell no matter how rich or lean I tweek it. Constantly adjusting every 5 minutes. I gave up and got the propane carb. Glad it works for you. Ever considered making it run on wood gas via a gasifier? I'm building one atm. The best off-grid power solution imho.

Yeah, not all engines do well with it, I agree. Some do great, other struggle. Not sure why, it's just hit and miss. As I said in the video, I am just showing how it can be done in an emergency use situation. I do not recommend it for a continuous use situation. Yes, I have considered a wood gas vehicle. But it is so hard to find an old carburetored vehicle these days (that isn't a piece of crap rust bucket). Heck, it's almost impossible to find a manual transmission anymore. I would like to find a little carburetored pickup for a wood gas project. Right now, I am looking for a new homestead land to move to, so that will have to wait.

As you Explained this will work fine but for safety sakes you do need a Load Demand Gas Regulator, if the engine should Fail in the Middle of the Night, the area would be Flooded with Propane which is very Explosive so I would order a Demand Reg. Kit for Safety Sakes-they are around $100.00 at some sites...

It can be a little difficult to get it started on propane. Some engines are easier than others. Try using starter fluid to get it started. That should allow you to get it running and then you can switch to propane.

Thanks for this vid but what about dust? You threw the filter away and now there isn't any air cleaning going on? Would have to be hard on the engine on an average windy day running so close to the ground....

This was a concept demonstration video only. It was only to demonstrate what is possible in an emergency situation. It not recommend anyone use this for any kind of long term unattended situation.

This was just a demonstration video to demonstrate the concept of how gasoline engines can run directly off of propane with no specialized equipment. Actual implementation will be unique to each person and their equipment.

You have to be careful while adjusting rpm under load .if rpm goes too high your generator can generate up to 140 volts and damage your power equiptment. The proper propane conversion regulator prevents this.

All true, but what amazes me is how many smart people like yourself, have such a difficult time understanding that this video is a proof of concept for Emergency Situations, and then you come on here and insist on trying to hold it up to NON-emergency standards. All of you should live in third world countries where people use a 2 liter coca-cola bottle as a gas tank for their cars, and tell them about all the expensive fuel system components they can't afford that they should be using. Lol!

You obviously don't know what MOST appliances or electronics will accept 120-208V ... So even at 140V, its not going to hurt anything

I’m sorry this arrangement is unsafe. Buy the regulator unit that provides safety cut off if the engine shuts off or the owner fails to cutoff. This is dangerous.

Look sir, should posted warnings at the beginning. I couldn’t watch this to the end. It’s unsafe… simply unsafe to show even. I completed a generator conversion with a ton of study.

Sorry. Not a Hollywood studio here. Just a guy wearing a gopro on his head. I appreciate people that understand the difference and even those who don't and leave rude comments because they came to youtube expecting to watch a Hollywood quality production and found a normal guy like me.
