Just installed a new 80% in my in-laws. Wish I would have known about the new high efficiency a little earlier. One thing to add on your roof jack. I would add a vent cover. Just found a dead woodpecker in the pipe of our Radon fan exhaust pipe. That could get ugly if it were in a furnace intake. Love your videos man!

whats the best electric furnace that you recommend for a mobile home downflow

@@leoquirog Sorry. I have only looked up the gas furnaces. If it is like everything else with mobile home, it will be very limited.

Thank you, I appreciate the information. I’ll watch all relevant videos, was quoted between $7000 and $11000 for just havc. That’s not including the roof jack or gas line. Most look at the system and take a picture and never hear back. Being a twenty plus year old electric unit it needs to go. We live in the Midwest. If I can buy the unit for $3500 I am confident I can install. Out source the roof jack and it has one.

*This is 90% similar to my Nortek M7RL furnace (I don't have that space under the main part, it sits lower). Parent company has 10-12 brands under their umbrella so not surprising to see different badges. Mine is 5 years old (2018) and need to replace the heat exchanger in its 6th winter.*

Lately your videos have me shaking my head. Not that you do a bad job. But, like this one. Unless someone has a master gas license they have no business anywhere near a gas installation. There are reasons for licensing and pulling permits. These regulations prevent needless deaths.

Curtis, I love your channel and the content you put on RU-vid. But aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? You just showed diyer's how to wire a 240 volt air handler on your channel. That's not dangerous also? I truly respect your work. I think you're one of the best techs on RU-vid. With that being said, every Hvac video or any how to video, whether its plumbing or even building a home can turn into a dangerous situation for the average diyer. You seriously can't tell me all of your subscribers are hvac techs. Most are people trying to save a little money by doing it themselves. I'm a big supporter of permits and licenses. When you guys put up content its like a double edged sword. We appreciate the videos but we can't control what homeowners decide to do with their systems. I truly mean no disrespect. Take care. Heck look at John Israel. According to the Louisiana State Licensing Board he doesn't have his license and he's doing installs. Easy to look up on the states website.

@@mikez1968I’d say the difference here is he’s not marketing towards homeowners and directly to them. You actually have to pay attention and know a little bit while watching Curtis, where Dave is intentionally marketing to the homeowners, which is pretty dangerous. And quite frankly down right dumb, because some info he puts out there is not accurate and is actually harming equipment more so then doing good for it. But go ahead and just change a capacitor because that’s all it is. When that motor burns up because the capacitor was weak call Dave, tho he charges 200$ to consult 🤦 if that’s not a scam 🤣

I understand Curtis. The reality is everyone who watches your channel, ac service tech, and the anti diy hvac guy are all learning stuff. I’m just being honest about it. I want to help people and if they’re being safe, they can replace their furnace. They can get their work inspected just like a professional and save a lot of money.

Gas isn't that dangerous. It's under low pressure, it's easy to test joints for leaks, if you fail it's easy to smell. I used to install water heaters for a company and I did not have any kind of master gas certification, nobody there did.

@@madeinusa1576 You can't tell me all 43,000 of Hvacguy's subscribers are hvac techs. Probably over 90% are Diyer's. It doesn't matter who they're marketing towards. Facts.

You save until you have to replace boards, variable speed blowers and module's because of voltage spikes etc etc. Then all those whistles and bells costs you more than a simple 80 percenter.. Tech wanted 3 grand to replace my blower, when all it was a 4 dollar thermister.

Hello, really like your videos in homeowner advice and instruction. 1 thought though, in a previous video you kinda suggested a high efficiency furnace wasn't really worth the extra money upfront and repair expenses due to added parts. Is there a difference between this mobile home 95% and the house 95% in the other video? Just a friendly question, thank you.
@diyhvacguy
@diyhvacguy Год назад
Mainly the venting. It’s a bit safer. But the owner wanted a high efficiency so that’s what we installed. Also a lot of mobile homes are on propane which can get expensive so the high efficiency would save money that way

@@diyhvacguy The math is easy. Plus, plastic pipe doesn't rot out in 15 years like the metal roof jack that I installed for my 80% Nordyne 17 years ago. I had the option to spend a little more for a 96%, but I was too cheap. Many regrets. It's getting replaced with a 96%.

@The DIY HVAC Guy I was wondering in this type of a set up, where does the heat actually get pushed to? Is there a forced air vent system or does this furnace just push out the hot air directly where the top blower is into the room? Awesome video! Keep it up!
@james6794

it blows into ductwork under the trailer. the very top of the furnace is where the return air enters (from the front not the top top)

Return air is pulled through the front of the furnace where the air filter is, and it’s pushed into the hole we set the furnace on top of. That’s the main supply duct and it goes left and right to the supply vents throughout the mobile home 👍🏼

Greetings, I have a 3 year old 3T Champion (Johnson) system, and the air handler blower motor runs continually. I pulled the cover off and it appears to the an 'X-13' type, and with all the 24v spades disconnected, the motor still runs, sometimes on low, but mostly on high. Is this a 'module' issue in your opinion? And if so, would I be better replacing the entire motor? Or just the module. I'd rather save $ if I could. Plus, I'm over 60 and it's in a cramped attic with trusses. Not the greatest access. Your thoughts? Love your channel!
@rusosure7
@rusosure7 Год назад
Well, the fact the blower motor runs has led me to consider just keeping it. But, since the X-13 has constant power, the Module is defective in that the motor WILL NOT SHUT OFF even when Green is not calling for it. So what I have done is this: I have wired a DPDT contacter in between the L1 & L2 leads to the X-13, activated only when Green gives signal. The relay is an old spare I had from my previous Air Handler. It makes an audible 'thump' now when cooling is required and the system works as desired. I suppose I should probably make a note why I did this and place it on the air handler door, should someone else ever need to figure out why! Basically, the EMC is wired (relay-wise) like a PSC now. And I have a 5 month old PSC from the replaced compressor fan that I can swap if the EMC goes bad. Thanks for the education you give & the encouragement to do more than we thought possible.

Most pvc vented furnaces require the use of only 45's or long sweep 90's for the vent and fresh air. Is this one different?

I've met many "Licensed" contractors that think they know how to install. I teach Hvac at the local college. Always follow the updated mechanical code book. "Fresh air"? Did you mean combustion air? Here's a question you should know. How many elbows can be used for the exhaust flue pipe? Google is your friend.@@niemisofgc
@diyhvacguy

It doesn’t matter. What’s most important is how many elbows and 90s there are within so many ft. I’ve used long sweeps and regulars interchangeably

Agree to disagree, I've been in the HVAC bussiness for over 45 years and have seen the result of using pressure 90's on venting. i could have accepted if you put it on the intake, but not the vent. Still love your videos, keep up the good work.@@diyhvacguy
