Here is an explanation on how to drill out a Stihl chainsaw bar to fit on a Husqvarna.
you will need to buy the bar stud adapter, otherwise the bar won't fit. Also, since the drive link numbers for the chains aren't the same for Stihl and Husqvarna, you'll have to grind out the bar stud slot to make it longer. I had to a little on the 32" bar, but not a lot.

You use the Masonry bits not because the material is super hard, but it will work harden to something that will dull a HSS bit quickly. The masonry bits will hold out longer and still through it easier. You can use HSS bits, but you need constant pressure and a good cutting oil, or a coolant. If you know someone with a milling machine, you can have the slot lengthened to take the chain loops, and the adjuster holes drilled out within minutes. Rigidity is key!

Yeah, it doesn't matter if drive count is the same or not. Two things: A) bar/chain length and B) tension adjustment. To use a Stihl bar on a Husky, for A) either 1) add +1 drive link OR 2) elongate the mounting slot AND B) either drill the adjuster holes like you did OR grind down adjuster pin to fit the bar (get an extra pin if you want to convert it back). Cannon and Granberg, Stihl-pattern bars have longer slots already for easier use on Husky large mount saws in conjunction with the proper adapter.

I never believed Stihl bars were any better. I've had oregon, windsor, sandvyk and stihl. No difference.

Most of us do it for standardization. I run husky echo and sthil pro saws. One $$$ lightweight bar in 32, 36, and few loops of chain for each will fit ALL of my saws. Imagine how much time and $ that saves. The Stihl ESLight bar is also one of the best reduced weight bars made. The current husky one is nearly as heavy as a standard bar. Plus I’d be back to chains that are one link off in length.

I guess i have all huskies 2 90cc long bars.2 70 cc medium bars . One 50 cc short bar. One bar chain style fits ALL. No extra loops hanging around

Good info! I always saw husky bars on stihls but not the other way around so i really never thought about it!

Regular drill bit, a drill press, very slow speed + lube = bars drill like butter. If you’re watching this, find a friend with a drill press. You need much higher pressure and much lower speed than a hand drill will provide in order to drill them *easily.*

If you turn the adapter around the other way, remove that little screw and screw the adapter in.

You got to take that tiny screw out and screw in the one one that piece to hold it in place

Thanks a lot for the information about this process, i see you have the wcs clutch for the 572, wanna ask you if you get the chain stuck without moving ( happen to me on the first installation i resolve it leaving the nuts a little loose). Best regards Giovanni

I haven't had any chain binding issues with mine. Sometimes however with clutch covers, if it's not lined up quite straight as the nuts are being tightened, it will cause the chain to grab. It can also happen if the bar isn't quite seated in the right spot. Be sure everything is set in place before fully tightening the nuts.

Gordy has a video on his channel about bar maintenance, in one part he explains how with his clutch cover the bar can be pinched causing the chain to be stuck, I believe it was something with the bar being warped around the oiler hole. Maybe watching this could help you.

I stihl have it. It's always a good idea to have two bars of the same length for every saw.

I used a automotive step bit and it went through the adjuster hole like instantly.

I don't have one of those adapters but I believe you are supposed to take the screw out & put the adapter on up the other way and then fit the screw so that the head of the screw goes into the recess, not sure if you need a longer screw or not.

Will this work for Homelite saw heads (C models)? Have a bunch of STIHL bars, but only Homelite and Husky saws. Thanks. Take care.

Cannon bars are set to the Stihl bar stud size, but they have an adapter so they can be used on Husqvarna saws. I'm not sure what mount the Homelite takes, but if your husky bars fit on it, it'll work.

Have you tried regular drill bits? Carbide generally aren't that sharp. I drilled my Oregon bar no problem.
@mitchzenobitrees

Yes I first tried regular drill bits and burned up 3 of them. The carbide tipped bits aren't sharp, but they seem to ogger through without melting down.

@@mitchzenobitrees Any type of oil will work better than water as cutting fluid. Also you need to keep the speed down to reduce heat. But your Stihl bar could be harder than my Oregon, so you may be doing it the best way.

I burned up 3 steel cutting drill bits before I used the carbide tip bit. The Stihl bar is too hard for normal bits.
