There is one flaw with constructively arguing with any religious person. They all base their arguments on subjectivity no matter how they want to dress it up...period.

I grew up Catholic and attended 12 years of schooling. Arguments like Joe's are why , at 14, I stopped believing. 40 years on and life is great. Keep up the good work Joe.

The biggest flaw in the design argument is that most designed things tend towards minimalism. There is little redundancy in watch design. Each component has a purpose. The design balances various objectives: size, accuracy, robustness, production costs, ease of maintenance, etc. In nature, we see none of that. Instead we see: inefficiencies, random flaws, arbitrary fragility, inconsistencies, waste, etc.

Yeah, I spent some time angry. I was told that by the people that loved me most that I was bad and deserved to go to hell, unless I believed in a magic man in the sky. The religious extremism made it difficult for me as a kid to have normal relationships with other kids. I wasn't allowed to watch the same TV shows, or listen to the same music. I had to fight my way out of the dogmatic shackles of Christianity. I don't have normal relationships with my parents and most of my extended family because I'm a sinner. I have managed to learn to manage and accept this, but in my deepest subconscious I deserve hell. So yeah, It took a while to let go of that anger. A theist critisizing an atheist for being angry is rather like punching someone in the face and then asking what they're upset about.

I get so annoyed by the watchmaker argument. We know there is a real-world process of how they are made. We do not think a magical spirit walked past and said "Let there be a watch" and a fully formed watch popped into existence.

Converting an atheist to a religion is the easiest thing in the world. Literally couldn't be simpler. All you need to do is provide sufficient, credible, irrefutable evidence that your deity exists and your religion is an accurate portrayal of both reality and this deity. Couldn't be simpler.

The watch maker argument is stupid because if you swap out the obviously man made item for an obviously natural one. It's just as nonsensical. If you saw a flower in a field would you assume it was made in a factory? Why not? Because you know the difference between the natural and man made. That's actually how you contrast the two. Knowing what a man made thing looks like requires knowing when something isn't.

The watchmaker argument's most glaring flaw is that it requires things that are obviously not designed (in contrast to the watch) to make any sense, and is thus self defeating.

What's amazing to me is that every atheist I've seen respond to this guy has responded with annoyance and a sensible breakdown of why his arguments are absurd and downright insulting to the atheist community, and he actually went on to make a response video to atheists where he literally said that he was sorry they misunderstood him. So everyone in a community gets angry with you, and you think that it couldn't possibly be that you might have said something that was angering, but that they're just all wrong and misunderstood what you were saying? This guy is pathetic.

Claims that atheists are angry at god or hate god makes absolutely no sense. You cannot do any of these things if you do not accept the reality of the god in the first place.

The watchmaker analogy is terrible. According to the Christian, the rock next to the watch, the blade of grass next to the rock, the lump of dirt next to the grass, puddle of water next to the dirt, and leaf next to the puddle were all intelligently designed. Why did they think the watch was out of place? As for Ray Comfort's "Have you ever told a lie? Then you're a liar!" method of evangelizing, you are not defined by some thing you may have done occasionally. Every now and then I like to go fishing. I am not a fisherman. Sometimes, I like to sit in a chair on my back patio in the summer and just listen to nature (bugs, birds, etc.). I'm not a nature listener. Those things don't define me just because I've done them, any more than Ray is a shoe-tier because he has tied his shoes.

The problem of evil is only a good argument if you are arguing with someone who believes the god of the bible was good and loving. A spiteful, bloodthirsty, dispassionate and often malevolent god is the character of god as portrayed by the bible. Suffering is perfectly consistent. Weird huh, how this isn't highlighted more in church?

My experience with apologists is that they can not remain faithful to what they claim is true even to defend it. That tells me all I need to know.

If the sun never left our view and it never became night that wouldn't change our experience of light... It might change pur appreciation of it, but it would still serve its functional purpose... The close-mindedness of theists is scary.

I was Hindu, and am still generally fond of the gods, stories, and general philosophies of Hinduism, at least in the abstract (especially compared to the largely poorly written and boring pro-atrocity wankfests that are the Abrahamic holy texts), and would love more fictional stories to take inspiration from it. I'm still an atheist though, because I have yet to see any substantive evidence supporting the existence of *any* gods, including the ones that I generally like.

The 'A' in 'Atheist', stands for 'Awesome'. Glad I've cleared that matter up for the theist. We don't concern ourselves with 'Anti' unicorn, fairy, elves concepts because nobody is claiming they are real, nobody is using them to legislate in favour of those who believe in them, nobody is asking for tax exemptions for the believers and nobody is threatening anyone with eternal torture for not believing in them. about the Santa bit, there is a not so famous youtube animations channels that makes psychology videos who talked about this Santa bit, he and his brother were thinking that this god bit was like the Santa thing, that to show maturity they had to admit openly that god is not real infront of their parents when they are old enough, after all, this game was played before, this has to be yet another mile tone for them to grow out of childhood, and its the Real test, since every other one before that was just easy and with '' training wheels '' as he called it, they were shocked with their parents Freaked out, it was not a taste, adults believe in this nonsense, and guess what ? i nearly cried watching that video, i had the same experience

as an antitheist, if a group emerged that believed in actual unicorns, there would be some concern, because the fundamental argument against religion is it teaches them use belief as a bad way of deciding on what is true. when you hit so directly at a mechanism of humanity you can cause some real systemic damage

This guy is not a parody, he's serious about what he is trying to do. However, I hope he gets lots of views since I think that he is reaffirming the non-belief of all atheists who hear him. He may also make some believers question if they can believe what he's saying.

I'll at least give him that when I accepted that I was an atheist I was angry. The reason I was angry was that I'd been led to believe god was real for the first 17 years of my life and when I finally broke down and spent an entire year reading the Bible front to back I was appalled by how disgusting and contradictory the Bible is and how all of the worst parts are completely ignored in church and religious organizations. I was also angry that so many people had also been duped and most likely didn't know it. As time went on and I became less concerned with other people's beliefs and just let it go. What most Christians will probably never accept is that myself and surely plenty of other atheists finally found the inner peace Christianity promises when we stopped thinking we needed to worry about the origins of existence.

Well, nobody seriously pushes the narrative that Unicorns or Santa actually exist, and that we have to observe to what they say, because they would have a special bond with Unicorns and Santa, so they'd know exactly how to behave, what to think and how to feel to not be punished by Unicorns and Santa. God, in my eyes, is basically the Santa for adults; be obedient (acc. to my terms) or end up on the naughty list and get punished (by someone I claim to be real).

Santa is important to teach young people that people make stuff up, even your parents will tell you stuff that isn't entirely true... that's very important to get to grasps with reality and human nature...

Watches evolved over time through incremental changes, driven by natural selection. We didn't develop watches out of nothing, out of a vacuum, watches are a product of evolution just as we are. We are a product of nature therefore everything we develop is a product of nature. Would we say a ant hill or a massive termite mound is intelligently designed? If we found a planet with similar intelligent life to ours, do we think they wouldn't have some sort of wearable time telling device, automobiles or airplanes?
