I made these last night. Added fresh minced garlic when added the lentils and salt. Omg these were delish. Used them in my meatless cabbage rolls. Thank you for sharing

Hey I'm 23 and from the Los Angeles, CA area from a dysfunctional household. I'm working to break the poverty cycle, and to find a older woman who enjoys cooking on RU-vid is comforting. Currently have some lentils here, and I am a good boy who went to college and I just want to say THANK YOU for showing young Andrew boy this. He really appreciates your love and compassion, something my Mom lacks a lot of.
Really good... never really had lentils but I tried this simple recipe and my husband and I loved them. Great source of fiber... Thank you for this recipe.
I have been making this Lentil recipe for years. It is so easy to make and perfect on rice, potatoes, quinoa, couscous and more! I hope you like them too!
I cook my lentils in my pressure cooker (less Vitamin loss) and I cook more then we eat and make a salad from the rest the next day. fresh chopped onions, parsley etc. a good vinegar and salt to taste. Love, love, love it. My Grandmothers recipe.
I’m watching this video and making the your lentils recipe right now .. I added garlic and bacon to my onions and some seasonings, I also made a pot of rice! I can’t wait to try this !! 😋
@@devin3762 My family are Buckeyes. May parents met at Ohio State. My grandpa helped build the stadium (he passed away a long time ago). He has season tickets for many years so when we were kids we got to go to some of the games. There is nothing my dad loves more than watching the Buckeyes play football. He was in the OSU marching band. Anyways nice to meet you!
I have never tried lentils before and this is really delicious! It's simple yet so delicious. I could just eat it like this with rice. Thank u for this recipe! 😍
Your video was amazing and well put. I’m from Ethiopia where lentils are consumed on a daily basis but never tried it your way. I can’t wait till I surprise my wife. ሰላም🙏🏽
You can add a bit less water. Keep an eye on them. If they dry out to much you can add more water. I love this recipe. It is great when I don’t know what else to cook.
Happy New Year Beautiful🎉 I made several cups of white rice and it dawned on me the lack of nutritional value compared to brown rice and lentils. So as I'm washing dishes I became hungry and remembered I had pounds of lentils in the pantry. Yet, the package did not have directions on how to cook. So I researched on RU-vid and you were the 1st recommended video📹 Your recipe is absolutely yummy😋 I made some mashed potatoes and it was a home run!!! Thank You💜
I signed up for your channel right away. It is truly fantastic. I just opened a channel dedicated to traditional Italian cuisine. It is very nice to see your recipes and discover cuisines from all over the world. We Italians use few spices and rely more on technique, our culture is based more on the exaltation of the main ingredient. You are very good
This is perfect. I've fallen on hard times and had to get food from a local food pantry. In the box, I was given, was a bag of lentils as well as a bag of rice. I've never had lentils so I have no clue what to do with them but I have to feed myself so I turned to RU-vid for a recipe and came across this. I still don't know what lentils taste like but I can't be picky right now. I love rice and I love onions so I'm going to give this a try for my dinner. It really sucks to be so low on funds that a person can't afford to feed themselves without help but thank God for a pantry called Gleaners, that not only will help anyone but if you don't have transportation to their pantry, will deliver a box to your door. I fell and broke my foot the middle of September and required some extension surgery to put my foot back together. I broke all 5 metatarsal bones. I'm just now able to walk. I haven't been able to drive so having the food delivered has definitely been a blessing. This looks so good I can hardly wait to give it a go. I like food that's on the spicy flavorful side so I think this will be real good with a dash of cayenne pepper and a few other full flavor spices I haven't decided on just yet. I'm going to just see how it tastes when it's done and go from there. I appreciate videos like this because without them I would be totally lost for what to do with this big bag of lentils. I pray I like the flavor of them since I have no choice but to eat them. Wish me luck and God bless 🙏🧡
Hi. I am so sorry you broke your foot. I broke my right foot a few years ago, so I know how it feels (Well, I only broke one metatarsal, so it's not quite the same). I couldn't work or drive either. I love lentils, and they are very easy to cook. I think you should cook the recipe as is the first time so you know how they taste without extra seasonings. After that, you will get some good ideas of what extra seasonings you want to add. Lentils are also good on potatoes. Let me know how your lentils turn out.
Great recipe. I tried and I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first time but I know next time will be better. Thanks for your clear explanations and for sharing your knowledge.
I soak whole red lentils over night until late the next day changing the water often. Then, I put them in the Instant pot for 13 mins. After they are cooked, I drain the water off. Then, I take it out of the IP & clean the IP & add chopped onion, mushrooms & saute a few mins with oil or water & then add, garlic, nutrition yeast, grated sweet potato, then, I add kombu broth, S& P to it. You can add whatever, you like to eat as, .I have a lot of food allergies so, I have food restrictions. Good Luck! 😊😊

12/19/2020 New subscriber. Enjoyed your cooking video a lot. I go to a Food Pantry every Tuesday and was given 2 pkg. of 2lbs Lentils. Your recipe was the simplest for me. 👍 Now I'm going to make some tomorrow for Lunch. Thank you for sharing. God bless you 🤗
I received a bag of lentils from my food pantry and in my 73 yrs I've never eaten them. I will try your recipe first as I don't want to waste a lot of ingredients with a soup recipe.... and not like them... lol Thank you.
Made these yet again this week. They're so good! I put a bit of minced garlic in with the water. I put the lentils in tortillas with vegan cheese shreds, crisp lettuce, and they are the yummiest easiest wraps! thanks for this terrific recipe
Your welcome! If you liked those lentils in tortillas I think you would love my Lentil Taco Filling recipe. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aTRZKgygmGI.html
@@CookingLessonsforDad thank you for letting me know about that other recipe. I just watched it and agree: I think we will love it. Going to try it out this week! Plus, love that it will cook in my slow cooker....no fuss cooking on a hot summer day. Perfect!
@@CookingLessonsforDad I’m going to try your recipe first over some potatoes (I’m Irish and I love my spuds) It’s great to find a simple inexpensive 5 ingredient recipe that requires basic cooking skills yet is extremely nutritious and quick to make. As my mum used to say, what you eat today is how you feel tomorrow!! I’ll keep you posted 👍🏼
I made it last night, just lentils over potatoes, I was so surprised how well they went together and how filling they are! I think I’ll have it again tonight! Thanks again!! 🇮🇪
I'm using the beef broth, bacon, potatoes and will make a lentil stew. It's freezing outside and I need something warm. Just wanted to know for how long I need to cook dry lentils. I like this simple recipe that can be used with anything. They are awesome in any way :-)
I'm a new sub to your channel.I want to tell you thank you for this video cuz I cooked my 1st lentils and quinoa.Your video was so helpful with the lentils !!! I'm still up in the air about quinoa 🤣
Thank you so much! I am glad my video helped you. Also try the lentils on rice, potatoes and couscous. You may like one or all of those better. I hope you find some of my other videos helpful too. Have a great day!
Cooking Lessons for Dad did you know it was sooo good I had cooked yesterday again,,,You got me sooo rattled up on Lentils I can’t get enough😁and today, ( no lie) I have lentils in the fridge, haha, You are such an inspiration,,,,,I have to thank you so much, your life must be blessed.
Red lentils cook much faster. I think it would be good. I think I will try it too so I can see how long red lentils will take to cook in this recipe. Let me know how it turns out if you try red lentils.
isn't it better to add the salt after they soften? Salt or acidic juices will take them longer to soften if you add the salt too early? Nevertheless, great recipe, glad I found your video. Thank you for sharing. (EDIT: I may have added a bit too much salt too fyi, maybe just need to throw in more water, I'm gonna check them, thx again for sharing)
With beans you should add salt at the end of cooking but that is not necessary with lentils. Lentils do cook very quickly compared with beans. Even so you can add the salt whenever you prefer. And adjust the salt to your taste. I hope your lentils are delicious!
For a vegetarian, the lentils with rice, potatoes or quinoa would be the main course. For meat eaters, I would pair it with chicken, fish or steak. Grilled, roasted, or baked chicken pairs well with lentils. You can season the chicken with herbs and spices that complement the flavor of the lentils, such as thyme, garlic, or paprika. I would also consider Salmon. Pan-seared or baked salmon is a healthy and flavorful option to serve with lentils.
I love Kosher salt but you can use whatever salt you like. I need to try garlic in my lentils. We often eat lentils on potatoes. Super healthy, delicious and inexpensive too.
one question please. If we need to make lentils to stuff sambosa. Should we keep 3 to 1 ration water to lentils. If we would like to add spices. Which spice you recommend?
I would keep the water the same. If you are going to bake the lentils after you cook them on the stove I would under cook them a bit. I would try the lentils without any extra seasoning the first time you make them. If you want to add more seasoning on your second batch I would add some garlic. Also taco seasoning is delicious. Lentils are very versatile. You can experiment with lots of different seasonings. Let me know how your lentils turn out.
