just got the Yum Asia Panda today. used the manual instructions and did 2 cups rice and 2 cups water , it ended up sticking on the bottom. i did not let it rest , took it right out heh

I'm still using this rice cooker and absolutely have no regrets! In my experience though, I don't really follow the manual instructions because I feel like each kind of rice is ingredient. Some need more water than others. So whenever I get a new brand of rice, I test it out for the first 3 times. Letting the rice steam and rest after it has cooked is crucial. This will make it fluffy and extra yummy :)

2 cups water for 2 cups rice sounds a bit few. With rice cookers like these, you also usually use the measurement it has printed in the inner bowl. So for 2 cups long grain rice, you fill up water until you reach the 2 cups rice marking for long grain inside. There's a few situations where you would deviate from the printed water levels, like glutenous rice, or non-rice products (like buckwheat). Yum Asia gives also a recommendation for the texture of the rice in their manual. For "perfect" rice, fill up to the underside of the line. For softer texture, fill up to the top of the line. For harder rice, 2-3 mm below the line. But then, it also depends on your rice. Some like it little bit more, some are good with less water. :D

@@Japasu It actually depends on the rice you use. For my part, not even the measurement in the inner bowl is accurate. Also depends on how you enjoy your rice. I strongly recommend tests and trials :)

I'm latino and I add the same amount of water or maybe a little more ... we like it not as sticky, a little whole or hard

There's no specific recipe bevcause it really depends on how you like your rice. I advice to new buyers to test and try until they get what they like. It will also depend on the rice one buys as well.

I bought a Yum Asia Tsuki and the rice at the very bottom is slightly dry/crisp (just lightly), do you have the same with the Sakura?
@ALifewithLove
@ALifewithLove 10 месяцев назад
That hasn't happened to me. Is it because you didn't put enough water?

Is it still holding up well nine months later? I was considering buying this specific rice cooker.

Hello! It works as good as on the first day! I don't know why I didn't buy this earlier - the rice comes out so nicely-cooked and fluffy!

Can this rice cooker cook congee too?

I believe it does because it has a porridge button. I haven't made some myself, but kinda want to now.

Ive bought same cooker yesterday. And I done 1 cup of rice and 1 water( like it said on manual) but rice was hard and dry . After i put 1 rice and 1.25 water. Better, but still bit dry . After i done 1rice and 1.5 water. Again Better but not enough. It has dried to the bottom. So next time i will do 1rice and 2 water. So how can they say put 1on 1 if its absolutely not the case? 🤔🤔 That was long rice. I tried short rice too . I used 1 rice and 1.25 water....stick to the bottom a bit crusty and bit dry. But rice seeds looks soft. So if i will put more water rice will get even more soft? Because i dont want them more soft. I need them to be not so much dry 😩

They definitely should have added that the rice-water ratio isn't definite. In my experience, it's really a test and trial, which is why when I find a kind of rice that I really like, I try not to change and buy anything else. Perhaps add more water next time and let the cooked rice rest a little longer so it's not so wet and soft when you are ready to eat.

How is the resting supposed to work? Do you open the lid, stir the rice, and let it "rest" for 5 minutes with lid open? Or do you just keep the lid closed and leave it be for 5 minutes after the program has ended? Some clarification would be appreciated :-)

When the rice cooker clicks and indicates that the rice is cooked, either turn it off or keep warm (if option is available). Don't open the lid or stir the rice. Just keep the lid closed and leave it that way for 5 minutes, then you can fluff the rice and serve.

@@ALifewithLove I had the same question - thanks

Why no salt ? from what I saw in moms dishes who was chef for 40 years she always told me in any cuisine is essential to add salt otherwise taste of rice will be bland… something ratio 1/2 teaspoon for 1 cup of rice which she was saying that is the right way of cooking rice but some people just coz are used to cook rice without it will think their ways are the right ways except when is a dietary requirement with salt restriction. I travelled in Philipines regularly in last 7 years and I was shocked to eat their rice which was almost completely tasteless and many times I’ve lost my appetite and didn’t realised that salt was missing till I remembered what mom told me long time ago . She’s still a great cook at 75 years and even now reminded me that adding salt in rice is non negotiable. Now again the question why no salt in filipino rice ??? 😮😮😮

In the Philippines, rice is meant to accompany the meat, fish, or vegetable dish. As this is salty enough, we do not put salt in our rice. On another hand, if we cook fried rice, that would be seasoned with salt or soy sauce. It's cultural, I guess. It would be interesting to ask if Indians put salt in their Basmati rice. I know for a fact that in Japan and in Korea, they don't add salt in cooking rice too. Out of curiosity, how do you cook your rice? Thanks! :)

If 2 cups of rice needs 3 cups of water, how come 4 cups of rice only needs 5 cups of water and not 6 cups? Your maths don't add up if you excuse the pun.
@ALifewithLove

Hello. From experience with this particular brand of rice I used, it's always 1 cup of water more than cups of rice. Otherwise, it would be too soggy for my personal taste. Again, and I say this all the time, it depends on the type and brand of rice. :)
