I put unseasoned tenderizer on my steak then let in marinate in weshesour sauce until tender. Season my steak with preferred seasonings then turn the heat up to high and using my cast iron I put a little oil and seared my steak on both sides until a nice crust then I take the steak out and turn the heat down to medium and put butter, bell peppers, onions, garlic all in the pan and let them cook for a minute then I add my steak and cook until medium rare.
Important note: if you heat a nonstick pan to the point the pan is smoking with nothing in it, those are poisonous fumes. Use a stainless steel pan or cast iron for searing a steak.
Here's my recommendations, in order, on which types of pan/skillet to use when cooking a steak/sear: 1. Cast iron 2. Carbon steel 3. Stainless steel To be honest, If you know what you're doing, you'll achieve acceptable results from any of the pans listed above. Numbers 1 and 2 are actually interchangeable. I know this because I regularly cook French, Italian cuisine and family recipes and require a practical knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of my "travel kitchens". I prefer to use Brandless or Misen stainless steel pans, Matfer carbon steel skillets and Victoria (Colombia) cast iron skillets. My sauce pans and/or sauciers are Brandless, Breville and Oxo. I have 4 "travel kitchens"...2 in the United States, 1 in Colombia and 1 in México. Chao. Retired Vietnam era veteran,ex Detroiter, expatriate currently living in the Colombian Andes.
Hi andreb ... You have prepared a very short list! LOL! But you could also add that cast iron fry pans are not all the same. And most are seasoned differently too. Cooking in cast iron is a learning experience and this experience starts with the purchase of a top quality pan. Happy Holidays!
I pretty much only use cast iron. I know you have to move it around a little to get the whole surface even, nut its just much easier for me to control the heat because its retention it better, even if it takes longer to even out cold spots.
I want to cook steak in new year but i cant make it and my brother goes to hong kong for university so i dont know how to cook but luckly your video helped me a lot. Thank you
I heat a cast iron skillet in the oven, then sear my steak 4 minutes on each side with a cast iron skillet on the stovetop on medium heat, using olive oil, then cook it for 7 to 10 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees, then back on the stovetop to baste each side with 1/4 stick of butter, then I wrap it in foil and let it rest for 5 minutes before eating. I like my steak medium, so I do 10 minutes in the oven. It comes out slightly pink in the middle, very tender, and perfect for me. If you want medium raw, just do 7 minutes in the oven. Some of the best steak I ever had, and I always use either bone in or boneless ribeye, from 1 to 1.5 lbs. and about an inch thick.
Wow you frequently check your comments that’s sick. Btw I agree with these people about you and how you have great skills, you definitely deserve more. Hope your well !
Hi! This video is super good, but I’m about to do a dinner for 4 in a few days so I’m wondering if I can do this with multiple steaks on the pan or if I need several? I know it probably depends on the size of the meat, but I just wanted to hear if it would affect the quality too
Thanks! Depending on how big your pan is, ideally you want to cook one steak on the pan at a time. If you crowd the pan too much this will reduce the heat in the pan and you won't get a nice sear.
Nice video! Were you using an iron cast pan or non-stick teflon pan? By watching your video, I realize that i've never got the crust brown outside because of the meat thickness 😂
TY so much. I never did this so your method was simple and got the job done. The first one I did cook more medium but it helped to reflect how long and what temp to cook for so I know how to do it for every other steak now. For grilling would you suggest a quick sear on both sides before placing it on the grill?
The 2 minute time frame got me confused , where I should had keep flipping the meat in each 2 minutes there I thought it only should be cooked for 2 minutes 😂😂😂😂 and gusse what, I ate it and it was raw as shit😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
@@brunospira After 6 days of waiting for a response, I regret to inform you that, probably, No :( Rest in peace 2 minute per side steak guy- Not sure - 2021. May the steaks in Heaven be perfectly cooked.
Man, I hadn't cooked a steak like this in so long. It's crazy how much technique I lost without realizing it. This is a very valuable reminder, now I've got my chops back.
I wanted to let you know before I watched this video i’ve never cooked a steak in my life. After watching and following your technique I made a perfect medium rare ribeye on my first try. I have since gone on to make more than 5+ steaks and I could not be more thankful to you. Good looks and God bless.
Man u really made my day, im twelve and i want to learn gow to cook a good steak in pan. I have watched hours of people showing how to cook a perfect stake. I have a question, i live in sweden do u know any good stake i can buy here ❤❤❤❤ for beginners
I’m a good cook and always taste great but I watched so many videos on how to cook steak.. I always over cook it . Your video has helped me master it🤤 thank you so much. Me and my bf are enjoying our prime rib medium rare 😬❤️
Attempted steak before following Gordon Ramsay’s video on here before and I gotta say my second time around I gave this video a shot and the results were so much better! Very easy to follow and clear instructions would recommend for any first time steak cookers 👍🏻
EXCELLENT video! I've never cooked steak before and all of the other videos never said exactly what setting (temp) you need to start cooking the steak. You've made it simple to master. Thank you!
I just made the HARDEST AND WORST steak in my entire life... I wish I still have the confidence to cook again. I really love to cook but my mother thinks she's always right when she doesn't know a single thing of cooking a perfect steak. She often cooks eggs with canned tuna. 🤧😭
I was kind of confused on seeing the sides, and I’m just wandering how long I should seer the sides of the steak, and btw great vid can’t wait to make this!
It will depend on how thick your steak is. Some thinner steaks may only need 2 mins of each side (i.e. 4 min total). Some may need 6-8 min. It also depends on how you like your steak cooked (e.g. medium rare or medium). But cooking each side for 2 min before flipping will ensure you get a nice colour on each side.
Bro the wrist technique has been de bunked by a professional chef already stop using it just use a thermometer. People have different wrists and if yours is ticker than your steak may end up the way you don't like it.
medium-well is only slightly pink in the middle, medium-rare is very pink almost to the outside. id say the steak you cooked was somewhere between medium and medium-rare.
Stop saying "the damn thing." You are cursing your food and it takes away from the quality of your video. I stopped watching. Say good things about your food and stay positive.
The finger trick is an old wives tale. Every hand is different and every steak is different. Compare it to itself, you’ll get a feel for it eventually. Rare is squishy, medium rare is a little more bouncy, so on and so on
Usually I cook my steaks on the grill, but in SoCal at the moment, it's raining like crazy. So you were the first video that came up and the steak came out perfectly. Thanks for your help!
Q1 For a medium rare steak, does the 7 to 8 mins of cooking include the 2 mins on each side? Q2 While cooking 7 to 8 mins , how many minute are we suppose to cook on each side? This video helps a lot. This video is great because it teaches me how to cook nicely
I always find vids about cooking the steak (and that's awesome of course) But what about the various types of pans ? Aside from the cast iron.. I'm always looking at flashy and expensive pans wondering does that price tag mean anything between targets 20 dollar pan and that 200 dollar one? What about materials and what's the pans are made of etc?
Finally after years this has helped me make the perfect steak. Made 2 over the past couple of days and the crust is always crusting and today I got the perfect medium medium (not rare not medium well). Thank you so much
3:18 i have a question. Is the 7-8 minutes the whole time start from it touching the pan to the time it leaves the pan or is it the minutes after you have seer the 4 sides for 2 minutes each and leave it there for 7-8 minutes?
Great job! This was very well done. Excellent planning and camera work. Kudos to your crew! And your technique was spot on. But, now this youtube is over 3 years old! Maybe it is time for an update, in which you introduce the instant read thermometer! LOL! Happy Holidays!
Why it takes 15 to 20 minutes to describe why it takes to cook a steak - I don't know. The instructions you provided were brief, excellent and easy to remember. From a novice who didn't have a clue - many thanks. It came out well.
Trying to learn how to cook steak for my boyfriend (he’s not making me or anything- I just want to) my seasoning is good, but first time it was so over cooked… this time superrr undercooked… Hopefully this video helps me ! I wasn’t a meat eater until I turned 21 this year so cooking meat is not my forte 😅
We have our own meat and guess what? *None of our steak packages are labeled* . So I have no idea what kind of steak I'm cooking. I can't tell the difference between all the kinds of steak either.
