I've loved zataar for years. I've recently made my own from everything I already had in my spice cabinet. I have lots of sumac too. Thank you. My husband laughs because I DO put it on everything 😊
For breakfast the other day I used up some leftover bell peppers and onions. I chopped and cooked them with salt, pepper and Za'atar added a Tb tomato paste, a can of sardines. Simmered, and put that over leftover rice. Yummy.
I love zataar! So many uses for it. I put it in yogurt with garlic and makes a yummy dip. Over plain spaghetti with olive oil and vegetables and cheese. I don’t think I’ve had it on hummus but it would be very yummy on it. It would be great as a salad dressing with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I’ve eaten it as a bread dip with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
😍 Sumac is the secret ingredient - Za'atar is such incredible blend of herbs and spices goodness.😍 Thank you @HappyBellyFish you're the best and I absolutely love your videos!
Bought some zatar fot a recipe on the internet that sounded really good, so i sent for some from Amazon. Then forgot where I put the recipe. And the pacage turnrd out to hold LOTS. So thanks a bunch...of zatar... Za tar with yogurt. Sounds good. And I'll add little slivery bits of cucumber. Definitely going to try that. Already sprinkled some on the hummus so I wouldn't forget. Will taste it in the morning. Thanks again.
believe it is thyme, sumac, sesame seeds and some salt. might see variations with cumin or oregano. idk how to describe as it is new to me, but worth worth a try for sure.
I have a Za'atar plant and it is doing well. Thank you for your sense of humor and great advice. I just put some to dry in the sun. Can it be used raw?
I have never tasted the Fresh herb but I believe it must be quite intense. You can ofcourse use it fresh as the final garnish on top of stews , breads, Soups , Cooked lentils, baked potatoes.. etc.
Thank you @@HappyBellyfish I have nibbled on the fresh leaves and they do not taste that good fresh. I should have some sun dried in the next few days. The plant is beautiful but it does like to grow in the shade rather than the direct sun, should you ever get one.
Basic ingredients are thyme, sumac, sesame seeds -- all ground. You can also buy at Middle Eastern grocery stores and come in a big plastic bag. Or pay the same price for a little jar at American grocery stores, misspelled as Zatar sometimes.
