Riding on snow can be a pretty nice and relaxing stroll through the woods, but no matter how easy you're taking it, turning in the snow can be tricky. I just learned that cyclocross cornering is key in snow. Weight centered, outside foot down, and weight on inside handlebar. Cornering at speed then clicked! Also, braking during the turn breaks traction. Use the brakes as an on/off switch before entering the turn. Thanks for the great vid! SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRAIL VOLUNTEERS!!!!!

Thanks for the great video. Dropper post was the best investment I upgraded on my Fat Bike. Not only cornering but you can drop, then drop your feet, and not go sideways off the trail which could sink you a couple of feet in the snow. Plus, it is easier to get back up on your bike!!! As for the cornering. I was invited to go for a ride with a much better rider. I recorded the trip and I learned a lot from just watching the video of him riding in front of me with a dropper post. I have never ridden a fatbike, but I have taken my plus hardtail (2.8's) in the snow. I think riding through snow is very similar in nature to riding in sand.

I’ve only ridden in the sand in the desert a couple times, but it is pretty similar!

That stretch from railroad down was really slick (29 Dec) in a few spots especially that 1st sharp down hill turn (6:43) around the tree I slide thru it.

Yeah that corner was slick! I was actually surprised it wasn’t icier over all with how warm it’s been.

Yeah tire pressure is definitely going to make a huge difference in traction and in keeping the trails in good shape. Getting your leg out in tight descending turns will definitely keep you from wiping out.

I go about 8psi in the back 6 in the front with a 26x4 in snow.

2:26 it would be interesting to see a video on difficult snow where a normal bike gets stuck. I've not invested in a fat bike yet cus would rarely use it. Not sure if I really need a fat bike I see you got stuck at one point. What about wet snow? I have some vids where i ride in snow and have to walk.

great video! trying to work out whether to run the Surly Ice Cream Truck tyres the Bud and Lou in the "propulsion" direction or the "cornering" as labelled on the tyres - any thoughts? have you tried both directions? pros and cons of each direction? both tyres in one labelled direction or one in one direction and the other in the opposite? also what bike and tyres are you riding in this video?

I always ran them in the propulsion orientation and never had issues. If you wanted more traction I’d probably just flip the front around.

@@RideYearRound It looks like in the video that your rear tire is mounted the opposite rolling direction; maybe just too hard for my eyes to make out how you have it oriented? And interesting about reversing the front; I've pretty much always seen the rear tire flipped for traction. Curious about your thoughts/experience!

Had the damper fail, but other than that it’s been great. Their customer service is also the best I’ve ever seen, I called from the trail when I thought it had failed and they helped me diagnose it and then had a replacement ready to send out by the end of the call.
