This tutorial explains how to create a realistic earthquake simulation in Blender 3D in just one hour. The beauty is that you can literally create any type of a structure that you want. Here's all the links that you'll need:

BCB is a structural simulation code made by Kai Kostack (3D animation specialist) and Oliver Walter (architect) in collaboration with Laurea University of Applied Sciences from Finland - that simulates physical reality to a high degree. BCB extends Blender´s basic physics functionality with a sophisticated toolset to simulate load dynamics in building structures. It involves concepts such as density, friction, plastic deformation, shear forces, bending forces, compression and tensile forces.

The fact that you made a tutorial for us shows how much you care for everyone. this is crazy good and i should for sure try to make something of my own. thanks very much for resizing the blender interface, i don't see very well so being able to at least see where the buttons are is very nice of you. very easy to follow tutorial! you'll get much attention if you keep posting great content like this. and you face revealed 🤣

Thanks for the great tutorial! Now I want to use CSV of actual earthquake data, where can I download it? I downloaded CSV of various earthquakes, but I can't do it well because the contents are different.

Everytime i try the simulation the building goes flying into the air and also the settings dont save so i have to manually do it everytime any fixes?

Hi!! We all thank you for this tutorial is just a idea but for the 10 thousand special I think that you could to make your first earthquake with all the textures that you have now. I hope that you channel reaches 10 thousand subs, 100 thousand?, 1 MILLION?!?! maybe I might be getting too hopeful but I still hope that your channel can get to 1 million subs it most likely be in like 1,2 maybe 3 years but it would still be cool!

Hi! thank you for your amazing tutorial, i wish you could make a tutorial for configuring different kind of materials, i have 2 issues with the simulator: -first of all, some houses literally explode and even the bedrock and foundation goes flying, i don't know why this happens only in specific houses, since i used the same config in 5 houses and 2 of them exploded -and another issue is when i have too many geometry and the program just crashes so is kinda frustrating, any clue how to fix this?

Thank you so much for the excellent tutorial, I just had one question. I set the end frame in Blender to 1000, however the simulation still stopped at 250 frames. Is there a setting in BCB that I forgot to change?

I believe I found a solution for this, before you "Build FM", enable Rigid Body World under the scene tab in the right-hand menu, and under rigidy body cache set the end frame to 1000 or whatever length you want.

Thank you for your great tutorial. May I ask is there any parameter to adjust the cell fracture space, I saw your video shows the cell fracture spacing is only a line, but my model after Build FM the cell fracture is ugly big.

I got my answer. The said cell fracture spacing is caused by the parameter of Rescale Factor (1) under Advanced Element Group Settings, which size down the discrete object to show the position of constraint in objects, if it is set less than 1. Thank you.

Thank you fo this great tutorial! I would also love to see a tutorial on how to create a more complicated model with more materials. And I believe a sketchup model could be imported and put in gorups in blender but I don't know yet, will give it a try. Also, when preparing the strucures, should columns be touching eachother? In this tutorial the ceiling was in between them. Which would create more realistic simulation? Thank you again!

I will for sure create more complex tutorials with multiple types of materials. It would be close to impossible to import a sketchup model and then make it work since I don't think sketchup models have the objects belonging in material groups. The fact the ceiling was in between does not change the breaking properties since the settings I used makes the connection priority to belong to the column (so the ceiling connected to the column works as a column)

@@0architect- the current BSB has about 4 options for concrete, steel, one for masonry and a couple for wood. But these are default presets and each preset can be manually modified according to real life needs/situations

Yes it is very possible!! But you would need an app to transform data from the strong motion database center. I'm using seismo soft

Are you using a different version of Blender? I ask because I don't see groups. I do see collections. Can I use collections in place of groups? I'm using 3.4.1

I am getting this error in the python console anyone know how to fix this ? Creating object lists of selected objects... Error: bcb_emptyObjs property not found, rebuilding constraints is required. Please select at least two mesh objects to connect. Note that these objects also need rigid body set enabled, preprocessing tools can be used to do this. Nothing done.

I think it is normal. Blender simulations only use one core due to the object constraints

are you using a Mac? maybe that's why it doesn't work. This is for Windows 32 bit

you say you will create a list about "intensity of a earthquake" So...where is the list?

Yep! if you keep the Frequency at 1.6 and Random at 0.3, then a Amplitude of 0.35 is the equivalent of a ground shaking intensity of X. (provided that everything you build is up to real scale). For each lower ground intensity, just subtract 0.035 from the Amplitude
