This is fantastic Tom! You always seem to make an amazing background as well! Something I feel I struggle sometimes in deciding what would work best for a particular painting. Thank you for sharing!
Ahh thank you. It can be really hard...a lot of it I find though is just confidence in your decision. Keep it simple and do less, because you always add more. And I always ask myself...what is the purpose of the background and how can it support the main event :)
Why do I always start my comments for you with WOW? Because it is truth. This one really captured me with how bold you go with abstraction and yet loose and free realistic rendering of the gannet. Wow. Your style is amazing. I need to find some courage and break out of my realism box and just try it one of these days. My heart wants to, but my brain and hands won’t let me.. you are an inspiration! I will keep staring at that rectangle of dark behind that glorious head for a while and keep devouring all your RU-vid’s...I hear Patreon calling me louder and louder...
Thank you so much for such a great comment. I really appreciate it and I’m so pleased it’s helping!!....I can fully relate to the heart wanting to do one thing and brain/hands doing another!! ...just keep going. The very fact you have some sort of destination as to what you light like to achieve is a huge start!!!☺️🙌🏼 T
Fantastic demo! Love how you accentuated the lightness in the head with the deep blue background. Difficult for me to create the relaxed feel of the background without making it look too contrived.
Ooooo, nice job. We've got gannets here in Nova Scotia -- magnificent creatures. I've photographed them soaring and diving but I've yet to paint one. I like that creamy-gold nape, and crisp eye ring. Values really can make the image -- I'm inspired!
Thanks so much Peter! They really are fantastic birds, I love them. Have been wanting to paint one for ages. We recently moved to a rugged coastline that is full of life, including Gannet colonies...there will be more! Thanks as always for the comments. T
