Today's tutorial is on how to crochet a cat mat. The project is a great scrap-busting project. it uses two strands of worsted-weight acrylic yarn held together. It is great for small dogs as well as cats. This is also a good project to donate to animal shelters or animal rescue groups too.

Love the way you mark the first stitch with a stitch marker……that is so helpful……….and I also count my stitches after each row……AND you are the first person that has ever said to start your border on the right side of a project to be able to see the stitches better…….that was a wonderful tip…….

To get the thickness for the mat sample you showed, did you work in the back loops like you mentioned in the beginning?

When I started the full-size mat in the back loop of the chain because I was using two strands of the same color yarn. Each row after that was worked in both loops.

So cute! Thanks! Do u put your cakes in a two separate bowls bc i have had mine get tangled and it was a disaster lol. Have to make a couple for my daughter’s cats. She will love them!

I have the cakes in a WIP bag with a flat bottom. They do get tangled somewhat. When I change colors I untangled one color and swapped them for the next color.

Sure that might help keep the yarns from twisting up. Give it shot. I’ve used plastic baskets from the dollar tree as yarn bowls too
