I was trying to do it at the same time and I should’ve watched the video first. It should be said that the front loop you’re talking about is on the other side of your work… you say “the next front loop”, but you don’t ever say you turn your work! So my result was very different.
Just wanted to drop in to say I started crocheting about 2 weeks ago, have just been practicing my stitches, and decided to make this my first real project. I was a bit daunted by the new technique at first (backloop!? long sc?!) but after going through your explanation a few times, it turned out to be really easy, and I honestly think it is easier than just a line of single crochets, since the stitches are much clearer to see and count with this method. Thank you!
Im new to crotchet and having trouble starting this pattern. It seems my chain tightens incredibly as i complete the first row and then that row tightens as I complete the next and so on till i can hardly make row 3. I have tried using a 6.5mm hook and even a 9mm. Any recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated!
Hi there, with this stitch pattern, you need to make sure you are skipping the stitch behind each "long single crochet". If you're not skipping the stitch it could cause it to tighten up like you are describing. If you are still having issues feel free to email me and send a pic :-)
It probably took me about 2 weeks working on it in the evenings. I'm not a super fast crocheter but the stitch pattern is very repetitive so once you get the hang of it, it moves along pretty quickly :-)
Hi there, the free pattern is available in blog post format here: nedandmimi.com/ridge-walk-scarf-free-crochet-pattern/ If you would like the print-friendly pdf version then you can purchase it in my Etsy or Ravelry stores (links in video description). I hope this helps!
I start Row #2 with a single crochet and whenever I make a long single crochet I check if I'm skipping one stitch or not ... but my row always ends with a long single crochet instead of a single crochet ... Can you tell me where I'm making a mistake ??
Hi there, it is difficult to say without seeing it - have you double checked that you have an odd number of stitches in Row 1? Email is probably the best way to receive pattern support so please do send me a message if you need further help: sarah[at]nedandmimi[dot].com
@@nedandmimi I'm having the exact same problem, and I don't understand how you could end on a single crochet with an even number of stiches like is said in the video. If you do a long single crochet in the second stitch and then alternate you will keep doing them in the 4th, 6th, 8th etc if I understood everything correctly, meaning that you will always do the long single crochet in the even number stitch. Therefore, wouldn't the last stitch (an even number) always be the long single crochet? I don't see how it would be a regular single, unless I'm missing something crucial.
Okay so I think I know what the problem was. In the first, you make an even number of stitches, but when you turn for round two you actually lose a stitch, making it an odd number. I did an additional stitch when turning, because I thought the exact number of chains in row 1 had to be kept 😅
@@somethingsomething7468 glad you figured it out! You start with an even number of chains, but then you skip the first chain from the hook so the first row actually has an ODD number of sts. I know it's a bit confusing! But yes, every row should have an odd number for the pattern to work 🙂
