ABSOLUTE beginners crochet: In this episode you will learn how to make a slip knot, chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet.

Our handy tips for great crochet!
1. Check your stitch names: crochet stitches have different names in the UK, US and Australia. Katie uses US crochet terms in this video.
2. Try not to pull your yarn too tight - it's great to have a good, even tension, but if you pull your yarn too tight it will make it very difficult to get your hook through the stitches.
3. If you are struggling to get your hook into a stitch, hold the bottom of the stitch with your hand to help.
4. Have a small scissors and darning needle ready for sewing in your ends, remembering to leave them 5-6cm long to enable you to weave them in securely.
5. If you find your stitches are too loose, go down a hook size. If your stitches are too tight, go up a hook size.

Thank you for this! I’d like to see a video on slip stitching to form a circle, particularly a very small circle. I seem to struggle with this. Maybe a bigger circle too. I’m working on a small toy and just can’t seem to get it! What is wrong with me?!

Wish it was a little closer hard to tell how and what you are doing. Oh I want to learn soooooooo bad. Hard to see how you did the slipknot. Then where you put your hook if you ever do it over if there's a way to get tge camera closer. Thanks for your awesome channel.

I was wondering why you make the slip knot with the wrong end of the yarn? The working yarn should be the part that slips, not the tail end. I find that the tail end can come out when done in the manner you show in the video. Please consult the Craft Yarn Council's website for a proper slip knot and update the video. Thank you.
