Yarn : fine weight yarn #2 (0-3 months), light weight yarn #3 (3-6 months)
Hook : 4.5mm (0-3 months), 5.00mm (3-6 months)
Measurement (0-3 months) : tail without fin 13 inches length, 16.5 inches waist circumference
Measurement (3-6 months) : tail without fin 16 inches length, 18.5 inches waist circumference

Make loose knot / magic loop
Round 1 : chain 2, 12 dc into loop. Slip sts
Round 2 : chain 2, 2 dc into every sts. Slip sts (24 sts)
Round 3 : chain 2, * 2 dc, 2 dc into next sts * Repeat * till end. Slip sts (32 sts)
Round 4 : chain 1, skip 2 sts, shell sts (5 dc) , *skip 1 sts, 1 sc, skip 1 sts, shell sts*. Repeat * until you have 1 sts left and you should have 8 shells by the end of the round. Slip sts at chain 1 from early round.
Round 5 : slip 2 sts, 1 sc on top of the shell from previous round (place sts marker). Make shell sts (5 dc in each sts) into sc sts from previous round and make 1 sc on shell sts from previous round. Repeat till end. Slip sts into 1 sc sts at the beginning of this round.
Round 6-8 : repeat round 5
Round 9 - 13 : repeat round 5. Make 6 dc shell sts instead of 5.
Round 14 - 26 or until you reach 13 inches length) : repeat as previous rounds but make 7 dc for the shell sts. Slip 3 sts to start new round.

Row 1 : 34 dc (start from the 4th chain from hook).
Row 2 : chain 2, turn, 34 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 3 & 4 : chain 2, turn, 31 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 5 & 6 : chain 2, turn, 28 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 7 & 8 : chain 2, turn, 25 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 9 & 10 : chain 2, turn, 22 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 11 & 12 : chain 2, turn, 19 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 13 & 14 : chain 2, turn, 16 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 15 & 16 : chain 2, turn, 13 dc (crochet into back loop)
Row 17 : chain 2, turn 10 dc (crochet into back loop)
Once you made 2 piece, join both piece by single crochet them together.
Create ruffle for the fin by stitching & attach the fin to the tail.
