It is - but I find that when I finally find how to do something it just seems so obvious and easier than Word - problem is there isn't enough How to? for Pages out there. This channel does the trick! Thanks
No... it's literally INSANE. Every student I know struggles with simply adding page numbers starting at page two. I've seen people spend hours and have to give up.
This program makes me feel so stupid, I did just what you did but page number option is grayed out… and if I just insert the page number it’s not starting at 1 it starts at 7 and I’m going crazy
AFTER five hours trying to get experts to assist me with this formatting. I really wish I got thank you with more than words. lol, it took me three times watching your video. what persons might not get is the necessary part of placing a section break at the bottom of the first page, then continuing on with the going to the second page and highlighting it. and then removing that clicked button and so forth.
I (like Matthew below) am 2 1/2 years into my novel. The HELP and ADVICE from Apple is ONLY for the programers. I wasted hours and six of my last 22 hairs trying to get the stupid numbers to increment. I got halfway through this video and smiled. I will pronto sign up for the PATREON deal and save the other hairs. Thanks Gary.
Bow to you, too! Finally, I found your video to help me with the footers and numbers. Thank you again and again like others who had wasted a lot of hours trying to figure out these "stupid " footers and numbers.
AHHH I FINALLY GOT IT!! THANK YOU!! Please make more videos about Pages, because there is a serious lack of quality instruction on how to do things in this program!! Even though I love using it so much more than Word, it's a shame some times I can't find out how to make certain things work.
THANK YOU! I was frustrated forever trying to figure this out. It seemed so simple (and so important!), and I almost gave up until I found this video! Saved me so much time!
I really appreciate for such an informative video. I was struggling with inserting page numbers in the pages of mac and i managed to resolve the problem after watching this video, big thank to you.
Thank you so much, this was super helpful. I can't even explain how much time I spent trying to figure out something so trivial, they really need to make this easier.
I need help still. I am needing the cover of my book to not be numbered. However, when going to the section part to change the page numbering format to start numbering on the second page, nothing under "page numbering" is highlighted so I can't make changes. I changed between the cover page and the table of contents page from "page break" to "section break' as you suggested but I am still not able to number my pages excluding the cover. Can you help?
Your videos on Mac OS Pages have been absolutely indispensable for me today as I am starting to write a small book. The videos on sections, table of contents, page numbering and all have been so helpful. Thank you kindly for sharing these videos and I just subscribed. I enjoy your soothing voice as well; it makes it easier to learn.
Oh my goodness! Thank you for making this. Page numbers were the bane of my existence until I saw this video. Turned out all I had to do was show thumbnails and click on one of those to get the page numbers sorted.
Thank you so much . . . your channel is awesome. I keep coming back to learn about page numbering in Pages. Not sure why it has to be so difficult, but I can do it with your help!
Thank you so much for this video. I've been typing the page numbers manually as I couldn't figure out how to use this feature in Pages. Now I know. The key is in creating sections within one document for the different types of numbering I want. This now makes sense to me. Great job Gary for helping me understand how Pages works for pagination. 😋 🙏
I have literally been working on a book and been trying to figure this or for months now! Thank you Gary! YOU ARE THE BEST! I fixed my page number while I watched the video.
When I turn off "Match previous section" ALL page numbers disappear on the document. Then I put in my starting page number and all pages in the [2nd] section are the same number. When I try to do this process a second time for practice, page numbering in the sidebar is greyed out. Then I wait and go back in, following your video (as I do each time, even getting the above results) and this time it works. :/ ---------- It's 3 weeks later, and page numbers is greyed out for this document, too. What do I do wrong????? Why is it greyed out?? I've been trying all afternoon.
thank you so much!! your video was really helpful, and I had to number my pages starting from the introduction page excluding the cover page and table of contents.. so thank you so much!!! I now know how to do this next time using pages :)))
I'm still confused. I am formatting a book. I have a new section for chapter one and "match previous section" is turned off. (I don't want page numbers in title page etc). When I click for Chapter One, everything in the page number section is grey. Chapter two is fine by the way. Please help!
You are a great pedagogue and all your videos are greatly appreciated. Thank you. I have a question: can we create a document with both text pages and layout pages using section breaks?
For some reason, after creating a section break, the "first page" of pages document won't show the page number. Like there isn't any box that I can click on. I can see the three boxes on the other pages but not the "first page"... :(
I'm still having issues with numbering... an academic work, where the preliminary pages has to be numbered in the format I, ii, iii,... and the remaining body of the document with 1,2,3...
I created a cover page (new section), and created a Table of Contents on Pge 2. But I can't get the 2nd page to start from 1 even when I click to start at 1 and untick match previous section. I had to delete the page numbers and then apply it again, and then uncheck match previous section. Fixed.
Well, I have tried all ways to get this right. Just like the example I want to start the main document on the third page as page 1. Not sure how I got here but every single page is now page 1. The same happens whether I'm in page layout or word processing. And if start a new section I get more blank pages ... I have tried this before and usually end up printing the title page as a separate document and numbering the main document from page 1. Seems I can't even do that now.
It sounds like you maybe just placed the number "1" in the footer. So instead of the page number, it just always shows "1." Go to the footer and delete the number 1, and use Insert, Page Number to place the page number there instead.
Does Pages give you the option of having page numbers on "outside" corners? I.e. on the left corner of left-side (verso) pages and on the right corner (recto) of right-side pages?
This is for version 13....To skip the number on the title page: Click on the "Document" tab in the toolbar. Now click on the "Section" tab. Under "Section" you will see an option for skipping the first page for page numbers.
As usual, your video is perfect. Not so perfect is my problem with section break. I insert one, the icon is showing it but I cannot do anything with it. On the right side of the document, I see Section but everything seems frozen. What I am doing incorrectly? it seems so simple when you do it.
@@macmost After creating a section and then clicking on the section, the pannel (format/document with section selecte) the section pannel is dimmed and it is impossible to acces the numbering options.
@@chayerdiane Do you have a page number in the header or footer? You need to have a page number element present in order for the Document>Format>Page Numbering to be active.
A last one: I want to leave a blank page btw one section and another but this seems impossible. In other words, I am trying to make a section for an empty page. I'm in a 2 pages face to face mode.
