How we know he's a pro, and not just a RU-vid Pro - the fabricators eye is a REAL THING! How does one develop a fabricators eye? Buy a grinder, buy a cheap welder, start making stuff. I developed my fabricator's eye in the Marine industry - where nothing is square, everything follows a natural curve and good luck starting with a level surface! It takes practice, it takes time but before you know it when it looks right - you know it's right :)

If you get a piece rattling around inside your roll cage, drill two hole in the pipe, spray great stuff inside it at 1/3 and 2/3rds the length. Tac weld the holes. Now the piece is in one of the 3 chambers. Go drive and turn a lot while the stuff is still sticky. If that doesn't catch it. Go to the 1/3 that you hear the rattle, and divide that up into 1/3rds. Drill 2 holes spray more "great stuff in it. Drive and turn a lot while it's sticky. You might be able to drill one hole and fill the hole bar with the great stuff as it expands big time. Your way of removing it before you build is best of course.

@Bleepincolt
@Bleepincolt 3 года назад
It was pretty basic, I just laid a sheet of 3/16" on the roof, marked it out and cut it. To bend it i made small relief cuts 1" apart to be able to bend the aluminum to the shape of the cage👍
@codyshaffer1355
@codyshaffer1355 3 года назад
Love the video, was hoping to see how you made the roof panel? I see a lot of crawlers with panels like that and want to build one for my YJ. What material did you use? How do you bend it around the tube how do you attach it to the cage? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
@Bleepincolt
@Bleepincolt 3 года назад
I literally traded for a 4'x4' sheet of 3/16" aluminum. Then measured my radius, cut lines with a carbide blade on a scroll saw half way into the aluminum going longways. I think I did about 15 of them or so? Then began to bend each 1" section until I had my radius. Set the aluminum on the roof of my buggy and marked out the tubes, then cut the aluminum to fit and drilled the holes for my bolts👍 I used trick tabs for the roof panel😉 Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching!
@Bleepincolt
@Bleepincolt 3 года назад
So I had a 15" radius, cut halfway into the aluminum 1" apart 15 times. Then bent the aluminum every 1 inch section until I got my radius👍

DOM tubing- because safety first for me, you can use whatever your little heart desires(talked about it)👍. Doesn't matter what saw you use to cut tubing, use a sawzall if you want🤷‍♂️, Low end tube notcher(price them out) if you want to notch tubing in a high volume and at multiple angles the only one cheaper is the HF one and I used what I think is the Cheapest "ACTUAL" tubing bender that is on the market.

@@Bleepincolt i understand that and soon as i get a shop built ill be ordering a jd2 bender and a notcher, already got a cold cut, nothing wrong with the gear my point is doing it the cheap way shouldnt be in the title, it implies you have some tricks on how to cut it perfectly and notch it nicely with an angle grinder then any sort of home made contraption for bending it, this isnt the cheap way its just the regular way

@@Bleepincolt and i really dont see pipe being an issue, DOM is much nicer especially when you have all the gear designed to work with its dimensions nicely but pipe would be plenty strong, its not a safety issue in my eyes, they put high pressure steam inside the stuff and the welds dont bust, although as mentioned quality assurance can be an issue on any product

@@AndrewBrowner well there has to be a reason motorsports rule books don't allow it, same reason why some will ONLY allow DOM. I will not trust poop pipe to save me in a rollover when I'm 30' up on a climb.

@@Bleepincolt and thats fine safety is definetly 3rd for me if it were first i probably wouldnt drive a jeep, offroad, or own a street/trail bike.. im not trying to be a troll or anything it was a good video but i just dont see where the cheap part of it is, ntm tube bending is used for lots of things not just roll cages where pipe would be better used due to cost but again its not the sizes typical to fit all the equipment designed for DOM so if you have all the gear its not worth the savings, but if youre messing around with a grinder and some hobby projects its fine and worth the savings since youll be doing stuff over frequently
