How to cut your holster to fit a pistol optic

Got your new slide milled for an optic? But it doesn't fit in your old holster? Bust out that dremel or small saw and cut that kydex to fit it. I go through the basic process on how to do it. An easy DIY project to save yourself for getting another 100$ holster.

A few tips: Do not burn the edges with fire to make them smoother or cleaner. Instead, use the white buff pads on your Dremel. Be delicate. You can use this to 'bevel' the openings to allow for smoother insert and less marking on the firearm as well as make your edges smooth and clean as hell. You can set up an angle grinder with a table vise and a few clamps to use a makeshift sander/buffer/cutting station. Metal shears cut kydex like paper.

also why not diy cordura wrap it i did it with alot of stuff and at first you might need a few tries but in case of IWB holsters it makes them feel better and kind of prevents sticking to your skin and most of all it looks tacticool and we all know cool looks = half the battle and +100 to all stats

Thanks dude. Need to cut my LAS holster for my staccato c2. Running a surefire x300 and they old sold them for the P so I'm eliminating the barrel excess

Nice job. If you get wd40 you can rub it on the cut parts and get them dark black again.

Beretta 92 x Centurion holster: I just copied this method with the exact same tools and came out perfectly. I didn't do the lighter, just sandpaper instead.

Very helpful video, thank you. The dremel worked fantastic for you. I intend to also use a dremel on my G Code holster that doesn't have cutout for my red dot. I may be able to improve slightly your process and avoid having those 90-degree corners (that may be stress fracture points down the road) by first drilling holes in the corners so the inside edges are rounded and smooth than square cuts.

you can also heat up the edges to smoothen them, cordura wrap it and use loctite to give the edges a shiny look while also keepin the cordura from peeling off

👍👍Wonder if using 2-3 dif grit sandpaper would work to smooth it out then compound buffer to shine it up?

That's definitely a method to do it. I'm too lazy to do that, and I felt as long as the area of the cut was smooth enough to not scratch my skin while carrying, then that would be good enough for me

my problem is I can't decide when to stop cutting....lol.. I end up with too much cut off after a while.

i use a sharpie to remedy this. draw a series of incremental adjustment point lines, and then stop and check the fit of the gun in the holster after each line.

Any reason why you didn’t sand it using your dremel tool?

I personally felt hand sanding is faster. Because using a sanding drum, there's a chance I would dig into the kydex, or melt it if it was too fast. But feel free to do so and let me know how it went.
