This tutorial will teach you how to cut your own hair. It's simple and easy but if you don't feel confident I recommend visiting a salon to get your cut. If you have any questions please ask me in the comments below and I'll get back to you!

This saved my life. Just tried this yesterday evening, I'm currently broke and my hair was a big dead mess for such a long time, now it's soft and looks like I just came back from the salon. I'm so happy I found this video. No more hairdressers for me. Do it yourself yo!

Carina Stewart hey. I know this is long but please read this. i have a massive fear of haircuts it's stupid I know and what makes it worse is that I'm 15 I have a appointment at the hairdressers in 2 weeks time and I don't know what to do my hair hasn't been cut in over 2 years is there any way I can contact you? Thanks for this video will definitely be doing this in the future. please help me

Faye Rios ... It would help, if the 'hairdresser' is nice, if you give the truth about the haircut you got... It would help them understand (well hairdressers who like feedback and are not egotistic and if you are not too harsh) what they did wrong and try to find a way to fix it at that moment, or next time.... And help you get better results instead of giving something false as that could continue to channel through other clients...

You really shouldn't use normal paper cutting scissors to cut your hair! It will only give you more dead ends quicker in the long run, please if you're going to cut your own hair, invest in some hair scissors, they will be much better!!

Kitty White I was just thinking that, and scissors need to be sharp to cut hair nicely. I was cutting my split ends before with scissor that weren't really sharp and I was just damaging my hair even more.

The hair cut is simple to do, looks great and you can do it in minutes. Thanks for sharing this. I don't know why people are complaining about what type of scissors you used, they can use whatever type they want. It's about how to cut and I think you did a great job!

I was using this hair cutting video for YEARS and found it so easy and reliable (even on my wavy/curly hair). Somehow I forgot your name in the last year or so, and got lost in the sea of videos that came out during the pandemic. I tied another haircut and it ended up being uneven and looking scraggly. I vowed to find this video again, and when I heard your voice, I was relieved - found it again! Just repaired that bad cut and my hair is happy again. Subscribed now do I won’t lose you again :)

Hi Carina! I shaved my head 2 years ago and haven't had a haircut since (or a few years before, for that matter!) I suffer from hairdresser-phobia after one too many cuts where they took waaaaay too much off. I finally decided it was time for a trim and watched a ton of different videos with a lot of different techniques before deciding yours was the best option. I've just done it and I am overjoyed by the results! I ran into my fiancee and preened (something I haven't done in our entire five year relationship.) Thank you so much for this tutorial/technique and he says thank you for finally giving me some confidence! Lots of love and best wishes - a haircut convert xxx

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been so anxious about trying to cut my own hair (I have wanted a blunt cut) and I followed your first step for the top and bottom section of my hair and it worked AMAZINGLY well! Perfectly straight cut, my hair looks thicker and all the dead, dry, and split thin ends are gone :) Thanks!!!

Aright I couldn't resist after reading so many positive comments! I did these steps and took my time and it turned out wonderfully! I have layers that I'm trying to grow out and I wasn't sure how to trim the shorter ones to make them look healthy again but overall my hair looks MUCH better!! I even had the courage to trim my framing pieces without any guidance. Now that I know it's not necessary to spend $$$, there's no way I'm going back to a hair salon any time soon 😊 thank you Carina!

Great video! it was simple and easy to understand. I cut my hair this morning after watching and it turned out great it was a little difficult for me at first since I have thick curly hair so I had to cut it while it was wet, constantly brush/wet it, and be careful not to cut too much off because it gets shorter when it's dry. Now my hair is fuller, curly-er, easy to manage. Thanks for the video!!! 😀💇

Your awesome! I have been trying to get my hair trimmed for a very long time and just didn't have the time to do it and my hair grew all the way to my butt. Pretty is long but it is so much work and my hair is naturally wavy so I would just brush it straight until it dried and yea...that part. This tutorial helped me to cut my hair even and accurately without spending all that $$$. Thank you. Your a genius :) My hair feels sooooooo much better.

I have been doing this for years and it's nice to see I'm not the only one that does this. I have super long straight hair but occasionally the ends get a little too crunchy and I do exactly what you do rather than go to a salon and have them charge me $50 to cut off an inch of hair. haha. Really nice video!

Great, so often they charge more for having long hair. Which I find ridiculous, as they might cutting off the same amount as someone with shorter hair. I hate split ends or long hair in bad condition so this is great to keep it looking healthy and good condition. Quick easy, and at time you want, the way you want it.. So now I can spend the money on better hair products. :)

I just did this thanks to your video (first time cutting my own hair!) and it worked out alright. My hair had got way too long and now it's shorter and of a passable standard, so that's a win. The only issue I had was that it created a bit too blunt/severe a 'step' closest to my face at the front, so I had to improvise a little bit to get that to be a bit more graduated. But overall a good result. Thank you!

With 2 kids, 1 in school and the other is 6 months old in physical therapy twice a week, plus a full time job and household responsibilities I don't get time to breath till about 8pm (when everything's closed lol) so bring able to do it myself will be great :)

I've actually been growing my hair out long to reduce times between cuts. With a bob, I'd have to go in at least 6 times a week. At 54.00 a pop, that's over 300.00. Now I go around twice a year, but I'm going to try and cut my own when it gets a bit longer (right now I can't bring it over my shoulders to get the back/bottom layers). Definitely going to try your method. I tell you; RU-vid has been a money-saving blessing. I already do my own highlights. Really looking forward to when I can cut the salon strings altogether.

I really needed a trim, I haven't trimmed my hair in at least 6 months (I'm sure you can imagine how bad my ends were) and this worked perfectly! My hair type is semi-thick but gets frizzy really easily and this actually worked out wonderfully. I wasn't patient enough to buy actual hair shears, so I used regular office scissors (my biggest and sharpest pair) and I'm absolutely amazed. If you use regular scissors like I did I would recommend that you cut only a tiny bit first and then just keep redoing it until you find the length that you like.

K well first of all, thank you! This trick has saved me money! And yes, I was quite nervous to try it for the first time. But, like you, I always go in for a trim or to take a couple inches off, nothing fancy. And I've wondered, "Couldn't I just do this myself??" So I gave it a shot and my hair turned out great!! I will keep doing this in the future. Thank you!

I have really thick long wavy hair and I’m very happy how it came out. Really sharp scissors are a must.

Thank you so much! I’m a Student Nurse and I can’t afford the hairdresser until next term. My hair was like hay at the ends. Looks so much better

This video seriously rescued me lol. Only thing I do different is use hair cutting shears, and I save sooo much money each month by trimming it myself!

wow that was a great tutorial the only difference i made was at the bottom I did a more of chop cut so my bottom hair didn't look too straight across but you really helped me get over my fear and my hair looks sooo much healthier thank you!

I used paper cutting scissors and my hair turned out just fine with no split ends...I think it will be okay. Yes, hair cutting sheers would be ideal, but if you're not a hairdresser, you may not have a pair of nice sheers handy. So...scissors it is!
