Today's Vlog is all about geeking out on Mason Jars. I was doing some canning a few days ago and had some very old canning jars sitting out. I thought I'd show ya how to date them...and post a viewer challenge for a free $10 gift card drawn from the random correct answers. So I hope you enjoy the Vlog and learn a little something!

The major change on the newest logo isn't the swoop on top of the B -- it's the bottom of the B, it's closed. Also, the Atlas logo you mentioned in the beginning - it's an AH logo for Hazel-Atlas company.

Thanks Josh, good trivia and a whole lot cheaper way to date than I'm used to (flowers and a movie). I'm guessing 1988.

I don't know what year that jar was but I have many jars from the 1870's after my Grand parents died that nobody wanted. Some of them much bigger, love them all!

Hey, just some info. That logo you called and A on the atlas. It's an H over and A and it stands for Hazel Atlas

I prefer Ball Mason, but I found an Atlas Good-Luck jar for $6 not knowing they are scarce.

I have a Atlas Mason jar. Pint. Square. HA without a circle. Has the good housekeeping lid. Has the glass under lid. Has A-2 on bottom. Any ideas on age price.

Best guess 1988...........The Atlas jar has the trademark "B in a circle" belonging to Brockway Glass. They produced glass from 1964 to 1988 in the Atlas glass plants.The year manufactured ,according to Brockway 1973 plant code numbers, It was made in plant 14 (Ada, Oklahoma) in the year 1988. Not much info on how long the Atlas name was used

Hey, love those old jars! Thanks for the info. Quick question: I'm Canadian and own some older Crown, Dominion Glass, Canadian Mason and Bernardin jars. Do you know of any resources I could use to date those types of jars? Thanks.

Some of those blue Ball jars were made between 1900 and the 1920's. I have older blue Ball mason jars.

I found a 1915-1922 jar in the dirt. The problem was that the (perfect mason) jar had the circle R logo below ball and it looked a bit too "perfect" to be old. It turns out that there were reproductions of the blue glass jars in 2013 and again in 2019. Bummer.

Got a mason jar. Presto Owens Illinois mark on the bottom. Looks like an eye. on the left it looks like a 3 and to the right a 1. Hard to tell. Can you help with the date?

I think it is fairly new because of the beading circle in the base, machine made. I do not think it is 1988, but newer. I am going to guess 1995. Thanks. Whoo.

It is newer...to be honest I still have no idea what year it is...some folks are just throwing a shot in the dark..saying like 1905 lol...TM you'll be in the drawing!

Atlas stopped making mason jars for home canning in the early 1960's Very recently, with in the past ten years, there have been some commercial jars make with the Atlas name on them. I have one that I bought with tomato sauce in it. Your jar as been made since 2005.

old jars are not designed to take new style lids...the seal is different

The best I can find is that it was produced between 1896 to 1965, '"Atlas' was used by the Atlas Glass Co" ... "and then by Hazel - Atlas Co." My guess is that it should be dated prior to 1924, possibly before 1902 when Hazel Glass Co. and Atlas Glass Co. merged and started using the H over A symbol (1924). productmanufacturers.blogspot.com/2014/04/hazel-atlas-glass-company.html?m=1

It seems like a 1920's because it doesn't have a logo and I think the logos were 1930's

I'm not an expert with mason jars but I've found some old Coca Cola bottles in my local river dated from a 1940 and a 1945, pretty neat. And I think I found an old medicine bottle but I'm Not really sure how to date it.

About 20 years ago I sold an antique mason jar lid in poor condition for $375.00 . It was found in a box of Civil War relics from New Market Virginia. It was crushed but I was able to straighten it out a bit. I was told it was made of brass.The buyer said it was the first lid of production..He ask me to scratch the lid and sure enough brass color.

We are giving canning jars away, throwing them away. There are enough of them at Mom's house to build a house out of. We used to have a big garden and canned a lot but we can't do that any more. We used to raise chickens, geese, turkeys, goats, saipan jungle chickens, etc. I think we just live down the road. We are kin I think. Do the names Jimmy, Nadean, Debbie, Donna, Jimmy, Gayland sound familiar? Or did I get something mixed up and you are a Buddhist living in Thailand? How do we get in touch without giving out personal information here, other than just dropping in. If you are who I think you are just ask your mom for my phone number.
