My makiwara is my heavybag. First work out with gloves and wraps, then take off gloves and wraps and do a bare knuckle set or two.

What I do is save a small phone book that comes to my home every once in a while/ And duct tape around it and use it as a Makiwara.

I taped a two inch piece of insulation foam with duct tape and put it against a masonry wall for a makiwara. It gives enough .

FANTASTIC CHANNEL! I live in an apartment. Most makiwaras are for outside use. Any way to build something for us apartment dwellers that doesn't take up too much space.? Thank you

I just hit the trees!. No padding. Is it ok to do so?, because the tree is stationary and doesn't bend with the force I exert!.

Burlap material wrapped around a tree or a metal plate as well. Blows need to be held back some what due to obvious injuries to hands, wrists, shoulders etc.

dense foam.... you can also use a folded up towel in a pinch

Chinese call it iron palm or iron fist technique. They use tiny bag. Fill it up with metal beads. Lots of wing chun practitioner practice those methods. Great idea condition your knuckles.

Thanks John, I certainly will. I was looking at one with slats cut into it made of wood. I'm surprised I hadn't seen one made out of some sort of synthetic/ composite material. Something strong but a bit more durable than wood. Maybe one day the Pit will have it's on product line of martial arts equipment. :)
