It's a wild ride! Midlife brings about massive shifts - our interests evolve, old relationships fade while new ones blossom, kids fly the nest, and careers wind down. With all these changes, forging new friendships can feel like navigating uncharted waters.
That does not diminish how important building friendships in midlife is for women. Having friends who get what you’re going through can be a lifeline. They're there to vent with when you need it, share a laugh, or just hang out. Plus, catching up over coffee or taking a walk together is not just fun; it’s a great way to keep stress at bay and stay connected. Having good pals during these years isn’t just nice-it’s essential for staying happy and healthy.
Learn how to develop those much-needed relationships in this week's video.

So true Sharri, I started a film club with a group of ladies who were cinéphiles like myself. It started strong with about 5 of us but almost petered out come the first winter. We were last year sometimes only two but the two of us enjoyed ourselves so much and continued to go through rain and cold. Come the summer we had a few ladies come back and now we have grown with some new faces. It has been extremely fun and interesting & I have learnt so much about film 🎥 😊 & made good friends.

I absolutely love your time is a commodity and this commodity-feelings connection. Time log idea and evaluation is brilliant and so very necessary to get real and grow! Re-calibration is a perfect reference. You are so much more than spot on! Thank you Ms. Sharri! Well done❤

Hi Sharri, great subject thank you. About 3 years ago I left my home town where my 2 girls live and moved to a beautiful over 55 development. I am happy here with the exception of the sadness I often feel about not seeing my girls who are in their 20's and living fulfilling lives on their own. I meet a lot of other women playing pickleball, neighborhood get togethers, etc. but when chatting with them they are so self-absorbed and just blather on and on about themselves and people I don't even know who they are talking about. (Memories of online dating). Or they are just downers. No normal back and forth conversation. I am mystified as to why this is and would not have thought I would see so many women like this. I am so disappointed, did not think it would be this way.

Great feedback...I've found I run from those negative, self-absorbed (men or women) and look for real friends. As for your girls, you'll stay connected...find new ways to do that...even possibly resort to letter writing. I've kept letters from my parents and grandparents to me as a kid...maybe my kids and grandkids will do the same even in the age of emails and chats.

What a great topic. It’s a cup of tea,for me because last Friday I’ve typed my retirement letter and creating a timeline list of what I will do beginning August 3rd and on. The clarity of implementation of identifying seasonal friends ( leaf vs branch vs root), organizations are very important to my life. Learning to separate from them is the best thing a person can do. Thank you, thank you for yours tips.

This was so very helpful! Due to my circumstances changing over time, my circle of friends have gradually shrunk. I’m now more motivated to make changes, at least give it a try. Thank you 😊

Me too. And I moved from my ‘comfortable’ city to another state to be close to my family. I haven’t made any friends beyond my job.
