its crazy how many different sounds bad wheel bearing produces. I have the similar whoop whoop sound and had to listen to many different videos of bad bearings before finding the same noise

That's a good point. There's several ways a bearing can fail, making it hard to pin point.

Very good video! I'll be referencing this when I confirm it's the bearing, thank you! FYI, I once twisted a lug when standing on the breaker bar, how you undid the lug nut. I would suggest using a small sledge on the breaker bar, rather than standing. Perhaps use penetrating oil.

@@windows_down_ Hy man question for you... Would the noise from a bearing starting to go bad become almost like a "harmonic" sound? At some speeds, it completely goes away. And at some speeds, it's loud enough that it has a terrible frequency that hurts my ears, like a "brown note" if you will. When turning slightly at high speeds, it will be louder in one direction than the other, and also at slow speeds while turning I feel a slight vibration coming through the wheel. So does this sound like bearings?
@windows_down_
@windows_down_ 3 года назад
It's really hard to say. It could be a bearing or a variety of parts that are rotating like an unbalanced wheel or messed up caliper/brake pad as well. I'd start off looking for play in the wheel bearings and the brakes for any obvious issues.
@MetaView7

I would not go cheap on bearings. This is a hard working component, it might cost a tiny tiny bit more, but I would use OEM.

Please answer. I have had this issue for over 3 yrs. Started right after I replaced wheel barrings. I got cheap ones from Amazon. Plus the car place over torqued. Mine feels like rumble strips. When I let of or increase speed it stops. The shaking happens in gas peddle and more on passenger side. I have a 2010 Dodge Ram slt 4x4. Is this what is causing the rumble? No one can figure it out. Shudder only at steady speeds. Doesn’t matter if I’m going 35 or 75. It happens more often on the highway
@windows_down_

Hard to say, being 4x4 could be any of the axles as well as bearings. Anything that rotates could be the culprit 😬

Great video. I've been chasing steering wheel vibration forever. I changed tires, balance, road force balance, 3 shops checked suspension, drive shaft, everything. Looks good. I even bought new wheels. When I test fitted the new wheels, I put the wheels on without tires mounted, and spun it. There was a wavy motion as I was spinning it. Could this be wheel bearing bad? I don't have any strange noises
@windows_down_
@windows_down_ 2 года назад
Hard to say but it's possible. If you spin the hub and it's not a powered wheel, and you see/hear something, then it's most likely a wheel/hub bearing

Question?.. I have same problem, replaced tires, rims are not bent and I'm feeling the same wobble on the front driver side but the whole wheel doesn't have any play or grinding noise.is it possible that the wobble I'm getting is coming from the front passenger instead of driver side where I'm feeling it?
@windows_down_
@windows_down_ 3 года назад
It can be difficult to pinpoint which wheel it is, so it doesn't hurt to check the others. Does the wobble increase with the speed of the car? A bearing could also be going out, but not be audible when spinning it with your hand. It's good to rule out a bad axle (if it's a driven wheel), brake caliper, or other rotating piece.
@j.v.1166
@j.v.1166 3 года назад
@@windows_down_ well the rim itself has bad curb rash leading me to believe that it has to be a wheel bearing.everyone tells me it might be out of alignment but shouldn't it pull to one side if it was out of alignment? It doesn't pull at all, stays straight.and yes it increases as you gain speed.

Same here, I think mine is the driver's side but I haven't jacked it up to check yet and since they use the same assembly for left and right side I'm just going to wait until the bearing assembly arrives to determine which bearing is failing. First of all, a hammer doesn't have a 'shaft' - what you're referring to is called a handle. Second, he's not driving nails into a fucking house frame - within the limited space of a wheel well, trying to swing a hammer like you're suggesting is virtually retarded. Third, you would know this if you had any experience with the basics of using a hand tool in automotive repair.
